NEW JERSEY, USA (10 August 2017) – Cultural icon Pearle Christian will be honoured with the most prestigious award ever presented by the charity, the Association of Dominicans in the Northeast USA (ADNExUS) at a cultural awards gala in New Jersey in September.
The retired cultural officer with the division of culture will become the second person to receive the ADNExUS Legends Award, the first-ever recipient being music pioneer Gordon Henderson who was honoured last year.
“Pearle Christian has dedicated a lifetime to the development of Dominica’s folk culture and nurturing the country’s youth to excel in this area, and she has done it with a commitment and verve that is virtually beyond compare,” said ADNExUS president Sylma Brown.
“There is no doubt that she is deserving of our most distinguished award and we are delighted to recognise Pearle for her selflessness and commitment to our country.”
The award will be presented at the 5th Annual Dominica Cultural Awards Gala, a chic event being held on Saturday 23 September at the attractive Woman’s Club in Upper Montclair, New Jersey.
The Gala is a collaboration of like-minded civic groups in New Jersey – the Dominica United Cricket Club, Know Your Culture Dance Troupe, the North American Association for the Advancement of La Plaine and the Northeast USA Wesley Chapter – under the auspices of ADNExUS. The Gala will include entertainment by Know Your Culture Dance Troupe, the incomparable DJ Bolo, and a parade of traditional creole wear with Aileen Burton.
The gala is supported by Secret Bay Hotel, Discover Dominica Authority, SF Pathway and Delta Air Lines. The proceeds go towards educational, medical and business development in Dominica.
The Association of Dominicans in the Northeast USA achieved 501c3 and 509a2 status in 2014.
The Association exists to foster the development and execution of cultural, educational and community programs that connect Dominicans in the Northeast USA with Dominicans at home.
