PM Skerrit announces $600,000 for Good Hope

The Prime Minister meets with resident of Good Hope before a town hall meeting in the community

At a town hall meeting held in Good Hope on Wednesday evening, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit made a number of announcements.

He said that the Government was in receipt of requests for house repair assistance totaling EC$785,000.

He added that as Minister for Finance, he will be making available immediately, $400,000 towards those requests with the remainder to be provided following the passage of the 2017-2018 National Budget which will happen within the next few weeks.

The Prime Minister also announced that he was making available EC$200,000 for Small Business Development but wants EC$100,000 of that amount to be made available to farmers.

He reflected on the Government’s ongoing assault on pit toilets for total eradication of them by year-end 2017. He said that of the 45 washrooms to be constructed in Good Hope, the first 20 have now be completed, and announced that the remaining 25 would now commence.

Finally, Prime Minister Skerrit announced that EC$160,000 will be made available immediately for the rehabilitation of the Balata farm access road.

The town hall meeting was hosted by MP, Johnson Drigo.

The Pm reminds me of Billie Ocean’s song : ‘Suddenly’
All of a sudden CBI money spending left, right and center. It’s a new style of leadership called Town Hall meeting n rum n money to give to poor and clueless Dominicans.
To date, they are yet to ask the government where does the money come from?
So where was that CBI money going alllllllll these years? What was the money used for?
So far the pm and his frivolous government have given out millions of dollars from CBI. One would like to know, what’s happening with the funds given to Dominica for post errika projects.
They boasted about a bridge with lights under it…. Yet there are loads of bridges n roads to be constructed… This government had to strategic development plan for Dominica, therefore projects n contacts all over the place. Priorities upside down. Mr pm you better fix the roads in the east n south with more urgency. These roads should be completed by now. Disastrous laughable pappy shows DLP

I took a decision to invest in Dominica and so I decided to visit Dominica strictly to explore the viability of my business idea in Dominica. I must admit that it was a rude awakening although I visited Dominica several time before mainly for festivities. I stayed on the ground line everyone living at home and from my personal experience Dominica is in free fall. The people are flat broke and there is little to no buying power. I came face to face with the reality of poverty and the depth of begging.
I have to pull back on my plans for Dominica and I am now considering a setting up in another Caribbean island. It hurts but it is a business decision

The people don’t need to work because the country is producing enough needed CBI passport Funds to sustain them.
Alas Dominicans. If this is not dictatorship, then tell me what it is.
I am yet to hear the news cast say:
The Minister of Communication and Works (bla bla) has approved funding for this.
The Minister of Health has provided funding for this
The Minister of Koshoni has provided funding for well ness
The Minister of (Bla Bla) has met with the people of ….

So many approvals coming through the Minister of Finance, but there is no accountability and transparency and AUDITING, and REALISATION.

So tell me, ALAS Dominicans, is this what we have reduced to.

Skerrit boy you giving $$ like it is going out of style– no grant process, no tracking , no nothing. You are destroying the society but I suppose as long as you are re-elected who cares.

We will pay for this recklessness lack of systems later big time.

It’s sad when government is the only show in town and worse yet when parliament has had no say in this largesse. It borders on insanity when the norms by which government operated in the past are subverted by a man who is so full of himself that an honorary doctorate was engineered for him. This social experiment is myopic and I don’t expect the highest return on the dollar for an impoverished country.Robbie Tongue wants to micro manage a cleanup effort in Roseau and yet the PM trust giving that amount of money to rural councils and I don’t hear much about supervision and evaluation of the effort

If you think Good Hope people stupid and can be bought for 30 pieces of silver then think again. For decades they survived without the pittance from Skerro and John-dont-know and believe me they can continue to do so. Labor take enough advantage so keep on fooling yourself  .

That CBI money is very long. Everyday a new community is getting their share. Everything now is CBI. Meanwhile, the West Coast still has no passable bridge and Copthall still needs a new bridge.
