PM Skerrit denounces leaders who have “nothing positive to say” after Maria

A scene after Hurricane Maria

Prime Minister, Roosevelt Skerrit, has denounced national leaders who he said have nothing positive to say after Hurricane Maria.

He said such leaders should simply shut up.

“My view is that if we as national leaders have nothing positive or constructive to add then we should shut up,” he stated. “They should say nothing and just continue to lazy about while the rest of us do what we have to do to help the many Dominicans, the many Dominicans out there looking for a better way of life.”

He stated the people of Dominica must be given hope at this time.

“We have to give people hope,” Skerrit stated. “You cannot come in these circumstances when people are dying, people are hurting, people on the news, people don’t know what tomorrow will bring, they have no insurance to fix their homes, the homes that they spent 30 years to build has been blown away, mashed up by the hurricane, some people have lost loved ones, they have not been able to locate those loved ones …and they need some closure. We should be bringing comfort to people, not to distract them.”

He said leaders should not be bringing “negative vibes” to the mind of the people at this time.

“And this is my appeal to those of us in national leadership in our country,” he noted.

Recently Opposition Leader, Lennox Linton, accused the government of showing no interest in members of the opposition who are available to help following the disaster.

“You are excluding parliamentary representation for over 40 percent of the people of Dominica from the state relief and recovery program but you telling the world we cannot do it alone,” he said.

The toxic relationship between these two men is a shame. I actually think the PM has done well throughout this tragedy. But why not involve the entire parliamentary team at this time, requiring national unity? Does the tragedy not remind us of how vulnerable we all are? How dependent we are on each other? How relatively modest our collective lives are living on islands?

So why is the opposition leader not shown in any of those national day events? Should the opposition leader not be front and center on the officials podium? It is not our (all of us) national day? is it not?

A Divisive politics portend really badly for future growth and development. And it undermines the ‘One Dominican’ spirit so well exhibited recently.
The Prime Minister needs to fix this!!

Linton was in New York spreading lies. When asked if he spoke to the PM he said “no, I called him at 12.08 am when the hurricane started but did not get a response.” Who does that?

This Prime mischievous one also known as (PM) is on a rampage to destroy this country more than what maria did. For someone of your so call esteem why would you speak with such gutter vemin sal tones like this, hence the reason you minans aka ministers speak so ill about the people they serve. Like the other day the minister who said he just finished passing out ration to his community to the extent in which he say they have soo much food he hope it pass in there noise etc. An utter shame to these people in power who inner dirty being is coming to the for front.

Question: Why haven’t we heard or seen his wife in any photos suggestively speaking passing out supplies etc? Is his wife and two American born kids still on island? Questions my people. Its super glaring what is going on in Dominica. Just saying

Mr. Skerrit tolerates no criticism. Every time one points to his indiscretions, he accuses you of being negative. A good leader listens to criticisms, if they have merit, the astute leader would not be too arrogant and recalcitrant to make the necessary changes. Only leaders with autocratic, despotic and dictatorial tendencies are so eagerly inclined to squash opposing views. Mr. PM, it’s blatantly obvious that you have become intoxicated with power, with an overly inflated ego to massage. It’s time for you to go as you have outlasted the goodwill given to you by the people.

After Erika, Roosevelt invited the other leaders of the country; mainly the opposition led by Lennox Linton to cooperate with him and develop ideas that would propel the country back to normalcy: Lennox, contributed in the  way he could! Even Roosevelt publicly recognized Lennox efforts. within days when Roosevelt discovered that Dominicans began to appreciate the united efforts of the UWP /DLP.

Roosevelt Skerrit went on Radio and Television and told the nation, the UWP is an obstacle, and they should get out of the way. He even had that Castle Bruce woman who was in St. Croix made some derogatory comments about the UWP and told them to get out their way!

Since Maria the UWP remained low profile, they are not running the government, they do not control the purse, Skerrit is the one man who dictates how he spends the money. He is ashamed of the confusion he created in the country, so even if the UWP stays out of his way he must find some to lie tell.

    Roosevelt is the one who…

“he must find some to lie tell.”

I meant Roosevelt must find, or have something to lie about. If anybody need to shut up Roosevelt is the one who needs to just shut up!

In the first place he manufactures his lies, and spread them like wild fire, his dumb supporters picks up the lies and run with them. The lies travels in a three hundred sixty degrees circle, when  the lies gets to three sixty degrees in Roosevelt face, the fool believes his own lies, and start spreading it again.

Mr. Man bite Dog, I have yet to catch Linton in a lie; nevertheless, the day caught him lying, he will hear about it from me the same as how I am whipping Roosevelt Skerrit Butt everyday because he is a notorious liar!

I am not simply calling Roosevelt a liar based on nothing, or because I hear people calling him lie! I turned on him because he lied to me personally, he promised me he would do something for my sister more than ten years ago. From the time that miserable little sucker made his lying promises to me the man get amnesia!

That was his big mistake boy! In as much as I can be a very good friend to someone, I can become a very dangerous = enemy to them when they lie to me. I detest a liar. I supported him wholeheartedly, until he tried to make a fool out of me. When he did that I turn on him worst than hurricane David, and the last maria combined.

I am a tornado in his life, I will haunt him to the day we both die, and even in his grave I haunt…

That’s funny… Is there a rule saying he can’t say those words? What would you do if you were in his position hm? Lennox is trying to set Skerrit up as the bad guy when all he is doing is helping the country. No matter what skerrit says or how he says it, his intentions are good. But some people blindly follow leaders when they do nothing, all they need to do is say some **** and you obey like dogs.. Skerrit saying damn, hell or shut up doesn’t make him less of a leader. If you attack a leader with negative comments like Lennox, you are bound to receive the same negative comments right back.

Roosevelt Skerritt just spoke to his mouth piece Tony Ass-ta-phan, meaning that Skerritt spoke to himself.Roosevelt needs to spend his time focusing on the things he can control and try to effect change that way ,but to just throw out innuendos doesn’t help in unifying the country and bringing about the cohesive energy needed at this time more than ever.He Roosevelt is the one to shut up and just do and let us see the results of your doing. After 17 years we are still waiting to see what you have been promising.Nature bails you out everytime there is a disaster because you can claim a fresh start. In good times and bad times all you can do is divide the people of Dominica. If Skerritt had laid down a foundation for development then people would have been able to afford it and buy insurance for their houses.

Boy PM told us to be positive so let me for his sake be very positive. So here we go:

    1. Contrary to what some say I can say boldly that PM and Tony are NOT under investigation by the US or any second country. THAT IS NOT TRUE!!

Ladies and gentlemen, fellow Dominicans, our regional friends and our international friends, finally we are getting to know 45 days since Maria that as of today, PM tells us that people are dying, people are hurting, people are hopeless and clueless about their tomorrow, they have no insurance to fix their homes that were built 30 yrs ago are blown away and mashed up, they can’t locate their loved ones and they need closure and people should not to distract them? Only now you realized that Mr. PM? You had to wait until Mr. Linton addressed our real issues in NY in front of world leaders and international press to make this disclosure? I hope Mr. Linton understands once again that unless he goes on the international press, NOT A D*MN thing happens as we saw after the January 1 CBS expose’ which followed by money distribution. Boy by listening to the daily briefings all I was hearing is we are a resilient people and we slowly turning things around, only to find out today people dying?

    • I am positive, are you?
      November 1, 2017

But PM is your disclosure of the realities in Dominica ‘positive’ or reality? PM how could our fellow Dominicans be dying and you playing politics with blow-go- dowe food? Linton did the right thing by letting the UN know what is happening so they could intervene before more people die.

Also PM, you are saying at this time of crisis people need hope and should not be distracted. But PM what do you say about your very close friend and PM of Antigua and Barbuda Hon. Gaston Brown, who told the Antiguan Cabinet that Dominica is making sixty million dollars a month on sale of our passports? In fact according to him that was his reason for reducing the sale of his passports by 50%, so he could get money to rebuild Antigua. So PM if you making all that money a month and we know you have been selling passports for more than 5 years, is it not fair to conclude that you / government should be hiding money somewhere and we need it to give hope of a better tomorrow to our people?

DNO a correct and sensible headline should have been “PM Skerrit Denounces leaders who sold our passports to known wanted criminals and now we are in crisis their corrupt business making it difficult for world leaders to assist us.”

DNO I bet if PM Skerrit became prime Minister in say March 1 2017, and inherited the bad name Dominica now has because of the previous government’s involvement in sale of our passports to crooks and criminals and Maria did what she did to us, PM would NOT be as positive as he wants national leaders to be today. I bet my life he would be all over saying how the corrupt past government, especially if it was UWP, has made it very difficult to get help from international donors.

Just last week acting deputy police chief, Davidson Valarie was asking looters to return what they stole and also asked the public to assist them with information. So when it is the ordinary man that commits a crime it is ok for leaders or private citizens to speak out and assist in their arrest though some of them shared their stolen goods with other in need, but when is our politicians, especially our government that is involved and leaders speak out, they are being negative; they don’t love Dominica, they are crooks etc. and Skerrit saying because people are dying and hurting leaders should shut up because of the circumstances? But Skerrit, on February 7th 2017, Dominica was not hurting, people were not dying; yet when the opposition spoke you arrested them didn’t you? When then should they speak out and where should they speak against crimes? They can’t do it in Dominica because they will be jailed; they can’t do it in the region because CARICOM is there to protect you so…

  22. The Evangelist?
    November 1, 2017

Pm was very careful not to mention anyone by name or to repeat what any national leader may have said that he doesn’t like. I wonder why? Is this your new strategy Pm? I feel you should call out that national leader by name and say what he or she said only if what he or she may have said is true and in your effort to continue to lead by deception, you do not want to talk against yourself.

But PM what is your definition of positive. You say you are doctor and I heard your minister addressing you as such. But as a doctor regardless of your field, you would know that if a person went for an HIV test and the result is “POSITIVE” the doctor cannot lie to his patient and say it is negative. Similarly if Linton stated the facts about Dominica why is he negative? Isn’t it a fact that our passports are in the hands of wanted crooks and criminals and some are either convicted or arrested? Don’t you think the world knows that? Linton did the right thing by asking world leaders to forgive…

    • The Evangelist?
      November 1, 2017

Even the Evangelist or your spiritual leader will tell you that asking for forgiveness is a condition of getting our prayers answered. By asking world leaders to forgive us before asking them for help which Linton did, was the right thing to do because world leaders that had ought against us realized that not every leader in Dominica is corrupt and will put them in harms way with our corrupt passport. I believe is because of that the vice president of the world bank even hastened to meet with you yesterday. So that was a positive from Linton. Linton complained about food relief distribution that is corrupt and in the hands of corrupt politicians and asked the UN to get involved to ensure everyone is served fairly. That is another positive because you as well as your ministers and suffering Dominicans know very well that the food distribution is nothing more than a food for vote campaign that is now going on. Also, Linton asked for a united effort to help build back; that’s true

When some one holds public positions, verbalities should be chosen very carefully, in other not to be seen as a rabble rouser. Speaking in any forum out of your state, diplomacy , even how vexatious one may be, must and should be the mantra. What is happening both inside and outside of Dominica, by the countries nationals, have many of us asking , where did they receive their education? the level of mis-education and ignorance, is right up there. I give credit when it is due, paying the agreed double bubble to the civil servants, in these disastrous conditions, shows a level of morality, that must be applauded, say what you may, the prime minister is under tremendous pressure to deliver, in a divided destroyed country. The opposition, should not have to be asked to contribute, this is the time to get their hands dirty, show your capability to lead in the murky waters, people will take note, the spark might start a BOUCAN, and change might be on the horizon, Maybe. Mr. Skerrit, I wish you would allow DBS to play the entire speech that Mr. Linton delivered in NY last week, so everyone could hear the brilliant speech which I believe will be the reason why international Leaders might still give financial assistance to Dominica because Mr. Linton began his address by repenting from the sin of distrust associated with the sale of our passports to crooks and criminals around the world that the UN and world leaders know about. So Linton repented just as we begin our prayers by repenting

Some Dominicans do indeed have memoir poule. You appear to be one of thm as history records that when Erika hit us Prime Minister Skerrit was out of the country cutting a cake in Macau with Ng Lap Seng, who is now before the courts in New York. Rayburn Blackmore was the acting P.M. at the time and the leader of the opposition contacted him straight away to offer hsi assistance. This was ignored by Roosevelt Skerrit upon his return, who did not even once invite mr. Linton to accompany him on his numerous helicopter tours, provided free by other countries, across the island. Facts are hard are stubborn and hard to ignore.

Yes, I and the majority of Dominicans feel the same. There was nothing prepared as national plan to have our Dominica and its people in the hurricane zone, prepared for a Hurricane. ” We have and just about surviving under the everyday Hurricane Skerrit and Hurricane Corrupt labour hitting hard now for 17 years. That is a world record that the Met office gave up on preparedness.
“I’m afraid this is devious double talk by mr. Skerrit. First you shut up ypour opposition, don’t invite them to participate in the reconstruction process and deny them access to the local media. Then you turn around and condemn them for not speaking up. I for one, am not blind or deaf and I’m sure there are many other Dominicans who feel the same…”
