An evangelical pastor in Dominica has described Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit as one of the country’s “wisest” leaders.
Pastor Peter R. Augustine made that remark in an address at the official funeral service of the late Bishop Bill Micheal Daniel, who was buried on Monday.
“I know that you and our Bishop were friends,” Augustine said. “You did not fail him in sickness and you did not fail him in death. On his behalf, I say a special thanks to you sir. The Lord will reward you greatly. You are without any doubt one of the wisest prime ministers who have even given leadership to this country,”
Augustine backed up his remarks by quoting the book of Mathew chapter 10 verses 31-32, which speaks about receiving a prophet and the rewards which will be derived from that.
“The Late Bishop, my friend, was one of the few evangelicals who received a national award for his work in Kingdom building. He has again made history in his death by being the first evangelical minister to be afforded a formal funeral by the state,” he said.
Augustine described the late Bishop Daniel as a servant of God.
“His commitment for work and the ministry was unflinching. He was a family man who cared for, loved and provided for his family. He had a quiet disposition which many misunderstood for weakness and as his friend I believe one of his greatest weaknesses, however, was his reluctance to take decisions which he thought would offend people and many took advantage of that,” he explained.
Skerrit has also been commended by Pastor Jerome James of St. Croix.
He told the congregation assembled at the Peoples Pentecostal Church in Goodwill, that the prime minister is a wise man for bestowing an official funeral on Bishop Daniel.
“The prime minister is a wise man because God says if you shall give a prophet a cup of cold water in my name you shall receive a prophet reward,” he stated. “Mr. Prime Minister you have not done that just for Bill Daniel. You have done it for God. Your administration shall continue.”
Pastor Bill Daniel was laid to rest at the Roseau Public Cemetery.
President of Dominica Charles Savarin and Mrs Savarin, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit and Mrs Skerrit, and other members of Cabinet, the Speaker of the House of Assembly Alix Boyd-Knights and other members of Parliament attended the funeral.
Members of the diplomatic corps, and other government officials were also in attendance.

But pastor Augustine bit his head on something somewhere to make a statement that Skerrit is the wisest leaders Dominica has ever had…lol… That was a joke right, he was just trying to be funny, right? cause that’s what that statement is, nothing but a bloody joke. Then again you can’t expect any thing different, I mean after all there is honer among thieves. Pastor Augustine should take a careful look at Dominica and then ask himself this question:
‘Before Mr Skerrit rein, how was Dominica’s economy, and since he’s been in office how much has Dominica grown since then positively?’
After wish he should listen to the Caribbean Islands growth report and look at where we were 10, 15 years ago and where we are now. If those results are positive then by all means continue with your praises of the country’s leader, however, if it states otherwise then the gentle pastor needs to go get his head checked and stop proving to Dominicans that he is the fool we already think he is by opening his mouth and making such ridiculous statements.
Pastor Augustine, like his colleague from St. Thomas, was merely expressing (in his usual very passionate and direct manner!) appreciation of the hnour bestowed on the Bishop by the government of an official funeral
Mr Augustine is a respected and impartial individual, who has offered his life to spread the word of God… something very few of us have the courage to do. He does not seek wealth and has none, I’ve know him personally for over 30 years. His opinion of the Prime Minister I am sure is based on what he has seen and what he knows. If your opinion differs based on your mindset or experience with the prime minister it is just that … your opinion. Just as it is his opinion to say the man is wise. If you choose to hide behind a computer and slander everything good that is said and done then you are in fact working for the devil. The man comments are based on what the Prime minister has done for the Bishop funeral not some political agenda or fodder for UWP tululu to comment on!

I live in Canada and because I am so far removed there will be much about both PM Skerrit and Bishop Daniel I know nothing about. However, I have read DNO every day for almost two years because as an evangelist I have often ministered in the Caribbean and have an interest in the islands.
I appreciated Bishop Daniel because he was the national overseer of our church (the Pentecostal Assemblies) in Dominica. His ministry is know even in Canada. We thank God for him.
I have come to appreciate PM Skerrit because he appears to be a man who honors God’s moral code. As a democratic free nation you are able to vote for your political candidates.
This is the man the majority of voters put in the PM’s office. Catholic and Evangelical Christians who are loyal to the faith are grateful for the way the PM has prevented certain evils from gaining acceptance in the nation.
We may not always agree with a national leader’s political position on an issue. But God Almighty requires us to honor him and obey his rule unless of course he is ordering us to disobey the laws of God and then we would be required to obey God and not man. Please read the following scripture:

I find it appalling the way many of the commentators on DNO write disrespectfully of their PM. Obviously your views are not those of the majority of Dominicans. If they were Mr. Skerrit would not be in the PM’s office.

Look at the flurry I stirred up because I made a few kind remarks about their PM based upon what I have read in DNO, and the respect he has shown Christians.
What strange creatures these commentators are. Mr. Skerrit gave the R.C. Bishop $500,000 for his building project and they foamed at the mouth over that. He blessed the Pentecostal Bishop with a state funeral and they howled like hell hounds.
He will not strike down the marijuana laws, He refuses to legalize abortion. He will not decriminalize buggery. Those who resent him for opposing these evils will find other reasons to chew him out to avoid identifying themselves.
Common sense would tell them to HUSH

When a candidate is running for office it is normal to oppose the man if you do not like his platform. But once he is in office it is proper protocol to simply recognize that the people have spoken and let your disagreements rest until the next election unless here is something you can change in a peaceful and diplomatic way.

When I heard the remarks of Pastor Augustine concerning his impressions of Skeritt in terms of being one of Dominica’s wisest Prime Minister, I immediately ran to Blessings for his comments. He said, Doc, are you sure he referred to Skeritt and not Miss. Charles or Mr. Leblanc. He said, when I think of a wise man, I think of a man who has wisdom, one who is prudent and of good judgment. A corrupted person who does not possess those qualities, in my book, cannot be considered a wise man . A man who lies, steals, cheats and is wasteful does not qualify to be a wise man. A leader who lacks the ability to effectively manage the resources and economy of his country cannot be a wise man. Thank you Mr. Blessings.

These days Peter Augustine is so busy preaching the gospel of his ‘new Jesus’ aka Skerrit, that I would not be at all surprised if in a Sunday Morning service instead of asking the congregation to turn to Matthew 7:16 he asked them to turn to the book of Skerrit chapter 11:11, his election date of November 11.
It appears from the comments that Augustine has done more harm than good to the Prime Minister.
HERE ARE SOME FACTS:
1) Peter R. Augustine is NOT A PASTOR! He has no congregation under his leadership. He goes from church to church, country to country preaching. He has often said in his sermons “I’m not your pastor so I can say what I want and leave”.
2) The late Bishop Michael Bill Daniel – my pastor, NEVER once made politically heated comments from the pulpit. He stayed far from controversy which is why people always thought he supported the ills being done in this country. He placed the unity of the body of Christ above politics. And because our nation is so politically inclined instead of preaching color and party he preached the gospel unwaveringly. He would have been APPALLED that those statements were made from his pulpit in such a forum.
3) I cannot say that I know Mr Skerrit, neither am I used to his facial expressions. But sitting where I was in the choir I had a birds eye view of the prime ministers face…and the president as well for that matter. It went from surprise to embarrassment as the speech went on. I’m almost sure that like most of us he felt that this outburst was inappropriate and uncalled for.
Now that the evangelist has said his piece and in sighted discord amongst an already hurting congregation I expect that soon he will be conviniently out of state and we’ll be left to pick up the pieces.

@stupes very well said! However, that part about Pm skerrit and the president was nothing more than pretense. They both expected their servant Peter R, to big them up. The late Bishop was very humble and wise and I don’t believe he liked the political twist the funeral took. Like many of us good Christian, the bishop made a mistake when he attended DLP convention dressed in red. That was wrong and did not send a good message. Other than that I have no problem with him getting a good funeral. I believe we as believers should use his death to teach us that although we have a right to vote and support any political party of our choice, we should be very careful not to allow our politics to cause others to accuse us being corrupt and as a result becoming a stumbling block to others, like Peter R has become.
