Prime Minister, Roosevelt Skerrit, has expressed Dominica’s solidarity with the Cuban Revolution and the Cuban people in remarks made on his arrival in the Spanish-speaking island to pay respect to Fidel Castro, who passed recently.
He spoke of the continued fight for removing a US blockade against Cuba.
“We are not here to mourn the death of Fidel, we are here to celebrate the life of Fidel Castro,” Skerrit said. “And to say to the Cuban people that the solidarity which we expressed and extended to you, we shall continue to express the solidarity to the great people of the Cuban Revolution.”
He said with Castro’s passing, more struggles lie ahead.
“With the death of Fidel there is still more struggle,” the Prime Minister said. “We have to continue to fight for the removal of this unjust blockade against the Cuban people and rest assured that our voices will be even louder than ever before.”
He again reiterated Dominica’s solidarity with the Cuban people and the Cuban Revolution.
“And so you must know, the Cuban people, that we stand in absolute solidarity with you the Cuban people and the Cuban Revolution,” he stated.
He described Castro as a “great friend, a mentor, a teacher, and a comrade.”
Castro died on November 25, 2016 at 90. He ruled Cuba for 47 years.
Did u hear skerrit speech, he said a cuba free of us influence but his kids born in America, practice what u preach make them born in Cuba?
When will Dominicans learn to respect leaders of nations? Let us educate ourselves and our children. Show respect to your leader. I wonder if your children will respect you when it is so glaring to them you do not show respect to the leader of your beloved country, Dominica. These attitudes and negative behaviours will take us no where but only make us more stupid.
Donald Trump will never turn a blind eye to what is going on in the caribbean, he is no Obama, it is just a matter of time before trump deal with Skerrit, mark my words, if reagan sent a missile on Gaddafi of Libya, there is no telling what trump will do as he is worse than reagan. Linton just start preparing yourself to be prime minister by default it is just a matter of time, the world has changed with the 2016 US elections.
Aye las Eugenia turning in her grave, see what Dominica has come to
Dissident Jailed in Cuba For Refusing to Mourn Castro’s Death, Family Says
The daughter of a Cuban dissident says her father was beaten and taken to jail for refusing to mourn the death of Fidel Castro.
Elizabeth Pacheco tells NBC 6 Cuban government security officers warned Eduardo Pacheco, who leads a gathering of the Movimento Recuperacion Democratico, that he could not host his monthly meeting with the opposition organization because he is supposed to be in mourning.

But that’s what HE laid down for him and so it is for everyone us. We cannot add too nor subtract from what GOD has laid down for us. I know that there’re many of you who have a hard time wrapping your heads around that but there are lots of things that we will understand better by and by.Another song that we sing. Fidel is gone,he’s only good now for the history books. And now he must stand before his creator JEHOVAH GOD to give an account for all that he did down here, likewise each and everyone of us…
Fidel is not the first murderous dictator and I’m certain he won’t be the last..And GOD still has the whole world in HIS hand….
There’s a Sunday school song that we use to sing back in the days : HE got the whole world in HIS hand HE got the whole wide world in HIS hand, HE got the whole world in HIS hand HE got the whole world in HIS hand. That’s speaking of JEHOVAH ( GOD ). And Cuba is part of the world. Then obviously Fidel and Fidel’s life style was in GOD’s hand. First I’m in no way condoning what he did but what I have a problem with is so many of you people are shouting what a murderous dictator he was, and yes he was. but how many are murdering their brothers,sisters,co-workers,neighbors,friends daily. Fidel used a gun but one can murder another without using a gun or knife. One can kill another with their tongue and hatred in the heart. Stop measuring up with Fidel. Measure up with GOD, and you’ll see how far short you’re falling. Thus saith the LORD. There is none that doth good no not one..Don’t you’ll think that GOD could have called him out of here much sooner, like Chavez, yes HE could…
I am constantly baffled by our PM’s hypocrisy . This man is so anti America, yet he chose America as the birthplace of his children.
Why didn’t you send your wife to comrade’s country to give birth? Surely they would be better off being Cubans than Americans.
I think our P M sees himself as Mr Castro’s heir apparent. Look out world the new comrade is ready to take on the big boys
It is OK to murder you opponents jailed them, declared them persona non grata in their own country, confiscated their properties without any compensation. Even their religious life is controlled by you,the words freedom of association is a thing of the past, freedom of the press?no no.Electing our representative,? shut your mouth. But to Skerrit and other leaders. Castro, we will overlooked all the above mentioned, just give us scholarships and while we cannot tell you let your people have what we are enjoying in our countries, but we can tell the U.S.lift the embargo, also do business with Cuba.,,,,,,well well
They love a leader who oppressed his people with such cruelty and hardship
Man ……”…..Go to Hell….Go to Hell……None of our Damn Business……..”
Some people say that Fidel was a “HERO.” But many think that he was just an HAMBURGER on a ROLL.
Fedel Castro caused innocent blood of his people to be shed and hated the freedom Americans enjoyed; Hugo Chavez caused innocent blood of his people to be shed and like Castro, hated the freedom America enjoyed; Gadafi caused innocent blood of his people to be shed to stay in powe and like Castro and Chavez, he to hated the freedom seen in Americar; Maduro caused innocent blood of his people to be shed to stay in power and like the others, he to hates the freedom Americans enjoyed. Sadly enough, all of the above were, and are, very close friends of Skerrit. Skerrit is saying all the right things but I will never forget my mom always told me that birds of a feather usually flock together. Though I Skerrit has not caused innocent blood to be shed, one will not forget that he hinted so in Wesley, during a 2014 election campaign. Like rhe others, he to is not a friend of the US, though when he wanted to give birt to his children, he chose the US over Cuba, Venezuela, France and Lybia.
Muammar Gaddafi, Hugo Chavez, Fedel Castro, and Roosevelt Skerrit are all the same. They all oppressed their own people especially those who share different views, and they all impoverished their own people while they try to build friends abroad. Also, they all used the popular religion, Islam in the case of Gaddafi and Roman Catholic for others, just to win popular votes. No wonder Skerrit who is no doubt a wolf in sheep clothing, is now taking the place of the bishop, to appeal to Catholics for 10% of their savings for the cause of the cathedral. When those Catholics hear such appeal they will say he is a devoted Catholic and vote for him, not knowing that Jesus said that even Satan is able to come as an angel of light 2 Cor. 11:14. How could the man so Christian and so Catholic and his actions so un Christ like? Isn’t Skerrit hearing the cry of the former DPP? Man to hell with this man and I want to remind him of the maladision that awaits him.
Examine the horns. Fidel Castro had a revolution to topple a dictator named Batista. What did he do after? Turned around and become one himself just as brutal. 1.1 million Cubans fled. Those who could not were either scared or threatened. Pablo Escobar the drug lord from Colombia was also loved by his people, killed many but helped the poor. The revolution in Cuba is dead and gone and for people to jump and shout viva la revolution is pure rubbish. Communist stifle skills and development of talents, and innovation. No one man has the answer. The people in Cuba and the idiots in Dominica that keep voting Skerrit just reminds me everyday how easy it is for people to be enslaved in this day and age. Skerrit is an ideological idiot that keep people poor to maintain control. One day Dominicans will understand.
Anywhere freeness handing out Skerrit in that…
Roosevelt let me make it clear to you once and for all old friend. I am a Dominican but you do not always speak on my behalf. I can think and speak for myself thank you.
Obviously Castro accomplished some good things for Cuba. I suspect there is this side to most revolutions. But two questions remain to be answered.
(1) At what cost were these things accomplished
It seems to accomplish these things President Castro found it necessary to murder a significant number of people, throw many into prison, divide families and break hearts by forcing people to leave the island
while loved ones were not allowed to leave, and to confiscate homes and belongings. All this because these people disagreed with him, and would not support the revolution.
(2) Could whatever good was accomplished not have been accomplished by a democratic government through diplomacy WITHOUT a bloody and painful revolution even if it took longer
Castro gave Cuba nothing that most free nations do not have. They didn’t need a murderous and painful revolution to get them.
Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill.

It is frightening to hear P.M. Skerrit express solidarity with the Cuban revolution. This is a communist revolution.
Is this what he wants for Dominica How could he think communism is a good form of government for Cuba and NOT wish the same of Dominca Where does the opposition stand on this and what are they saying on behalf of their country
Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill.
Cuba has one of the best health systems in the world, meanwhile America….
The opposition have spoken, didn’t you read?
The Opposition is a disciplined Party with a disciplined and focused leader, with a good support MP`s and followers. The UWP will not be distracted. They know the difference between democracy, communism and a rotten corrupt government.
rev. stick to the things of God and leave the things of the world for the world
For once we agree. But the Castro regime has handed out aid in the region for decades, most notably by giving away university scholarships and dispatching doctors to bolster our hospital, and politicians don’t bite the hands that feed them.
Rev.Donald, You are talking bull crap it would be better if you stick to your bible bashing storytelling to poor black people, while you lots taking their last dollar and telling them God will bless them, You are in no position to talk about Cuban Revoption ……..good bye .

Mr. Hill, let me ask you a question. What race of people have gone around the world killing, pillaging, lynching, murdering, stealing, raping and still wage havoc upon the indigenous people around the world? Don’t come on this forum to make us believe that you are a peace maker when your ancestors tortured our people during the middle passage and our brothers and sisters are being killed in the USA like flies. You religion and politics will never set us free because they were forced on us to keep us docile so that we would never be restored as a people as long as we stay subservient to them.
The Western world have placed policies in place so that any nation that stands against them will be assassinated or forced to accept those policies. You are aware of what is going on so don’t think that we will continue to be docile to your ideologies and religious beliefs forever.
We have seen the light and will continue to rise as an African people.
UNAPOLOGETIC
Even in death? If Fidel was any mentor to you Skerritt, you would never have developed diplomatic relations recently with Morocco, a country that has been oppressing, exploiting, occupying the lands of the black people of Western Sahara in Africa and refusing to decolonise, disregarding the mandate of the UN. Why? Because Fidel and Cuba have been supporting the struggling Sahawaris for decades lead by the Polisario Front, in their fight for their freedom from the colonial master, Morocco.
Fidel and the Cuban Revolution would never, even think of selling their sovereignty, selling their homeland, selling their Passports to the highest bidder, even crooks and criminals all over the world. Fidel would never, never, hand over Cuba’s diplomatic passports to those kind of foreigners that now possess ours.
Skerritt has decided to rub shoulders with millionaires, wealthy, people all over the world irrespective of their status with the law.
LOVE THIS COMMENT!!!!!!!
so what about the Cubans he murdered or thrown in prison for expressing their disgust about his repressive regime… they will get their reward, god is not asleep
Thats it folks, Dammed if he does, Dammed if he dont. Politics! who cares? My wife is U.S. Citizen, My Children were Born in The U.S. A. who cares? I have enough Ties to buy my way to the U.S.A. no brainer, Who vex go suck salt. LA BAR KA, PALA Pou`Soupaye. You’re so right…………in time to come Skerrit will be in the USA just Laughing at we DUMMYnicans
“Prime Minister, Roosevelt Skerrit, has expressed Dominica’s solidarity with the Cuban Revolution”
When people are uneducated, and ignorant, just because they are called prime minister cannot change their stupid mentality. This guy Skerrit is so ignorant he does not even realize that the Cuban revolution is long over; it over for more than fifty years yet the Dominica claims to be in solidarity with the Cuban people and the revolution.
Somebody need to remind that idiot that it was not the Cuban people revolution, it was Fidel Castro’s that dead murder revolution!
Skerrit has no concept that relationship between Cuba, and the United States are normalized, he believes Cuba is still fighting some revolutionary war with the world, how stupid! You know you can buy all the elections, but those people who make an X for you will suffer, and eventually regret it, and seek to drink you blood, the will soon see the darkness in you soul!
There should be a Dominican Revolution right about now !
I don’t usually agree with Skerrit, but he is right to call this blockade “unjust”..The USA feels like if you’re not playing at their game then they will rally others to not play with you also..in 2016 this shouldn’t be, especially given that it has already gone on for over 50 years..that is cruel treatment of CUBA. Posing a particular hindrance on trade..If the US is serious about Human Rights, lead by example and free up CUBA, the People have a right to choose their political views and a right to trade freely with other nations without fear of being penalized..
There’s no denying that Fidel (on his own) has positively touched many more lives around the world than any US President to this day, even despite the controversy..Fidel fought genuinely and selflessly for the rights of all minority..
chupss, Skerrit don’t know what he is about, a flip flap
More like a flip flop. Lol…
Opportunist…love to be seen doing nothing….not a damn to meaningful development….
