Prime Minister, Roosevelt Skerrit has presented the Giraudel/Eggleston village council with a cheque worth $80,000. The cheque was handed over at a meeting on Thursday evening.

Skerrit said that $60,000 should be put towards roadworks, and other tasks given priority by the council. He asked that he be provided with a list of prospective projects, in order to keep abreast of the council’s progress.

“Sixty thousand will go to the village council for roadworks, and whatever you decide are priorities,” he stated. “It would be good for you to send me a note saying how you intend to spend the $60,000 so that we can reconcile our understanding. I also want you to send to me the specific list of projects you mentioned here, and in order of priority.”

He explained that the budget for roadworks was timely, as it will help to “…improve the safety to road users, because the roads are narrow, and if there are potholes, it makes it even more dangerous for road users, and so forth.”

The additional $20,000, he wished to be allocated to the Giraudel/Eggleston Flower Growers Group, to help with the funding of the annual Flower Show, carded for later this year, at an estimated cost of about $30,000.

“I would like $20,000 to go to the Flower Growers group. That is for the hosting of the 2016 Flower Show. So, you will pass the funds onto them,” he said. “My understanding is that the budget is about $30,000. I could only give twenty now; maybe if God blesses us with more resources, by the time the Flower Show comes around, we might be in a position to give some. This is an important start… they can go ahead with the planning, and bringing people to spend money in the community.”

Meantime, the Prime Minister announced that he had approved $1.6 million for the renovation of infrastructure works between Castle Comfort and Eggleston.

First, urgent roadworks will be amended with the money provided; then, more “comprehensive” work will commence at a later date.

“I have approved $1.6 million to be spent between Castle Comfort and Eggleston. We are now doing the design for the walls—the retaining walls that are required for Castle Comfort, coming up. There are some in Eggleston…” Skerrit explained. “So, we will be doing some of these emergency works, and, of course, outside of that… we will come back and do a comprehensive work on the surface of the roads, and so forth.”

Further, Skerrit revealed that a total of about $44 million has been estimated as the cost of the renovation of the airport and its surroundings, which were damaged during the passage of Tropical Storm Erika. Resources, he said, are “tight,” especially with the relocation of residents of Petite Savanne and Dubique.

“You know, the resources are tight… there are huge challenges. The resettlement of Petite Savanne and Dubique is costing us a lot of money…” he noted. “Just to fix the physical works at the airport, it’s $32 million, and we need to get $12 million to fix the airport road, and there are several other interventions we have to make in the next few days, few weeks across the country…”

This is proof that the existing parlrep has given Skerrit word that he is going to resign as parlrep and from the uwp, to pave the way for Skerrit and the DLP.

The man separated himself from uwp longtime ago in Bethlehem, almost after he won his seat. UWP should becareful when selecting deputy leader because their last two have not been committed

\”It would be good for you to send me a note saying how you intend to spend the $60,000\”; Don\’t we all pay VAT in this country? Why is it that skerrit thinks he can spend tax payers monies to his political advantage. The guy goes all over the place dishing out cheques like he owns a gold mine. Why don\’t the farmers of this country rise up and demand their fair share; protest is exhibited all over the universe, it\’s the only way leaders learn to treat it\’s citizens with respect; Dominica should be no exception.

JJ come and lead the protest. You want to remain safe and comfortable in the USA and fan the flames of discord and discontent here. If you want to action such as what you are asking for, you can go to one of TRUMP’ rallies where you are and you will get your fill.

Nevertheless, I wish to draw to the attention of a certain lady who’s name I refused to mentioned because I am afraid she kill me! However, I remember in another forum when Peter told her how her village was about to plenty of money to build road in her village, she went crazy.

She commenced praising Skerrit, and how much of a good man he is: By the time Peter drew to her attention that there is an emergency of a damage road which need the money more she became cool like a cucumber .

She well we will get what is ours in time. Well you get eighty thousand dollars buy peanuts, how about that Skerrit lover girl!

What is really going on in this Disney Land of a country. According to Skerrit,”If God bless him with more resources then he will be able to give more money to Giraudel. You mean to tell me that this is the talk of a so called finance minister and PM of a country.
This man sounds more like a man who owns a room shop as opposed to someone who manages the balance sheet of the country.
Why can’t he just reorganise the village councils and make them responsible for dealing with their own finances thriving l through decentralisation and less micro management.
    This country is unbelievable.

The prime minister keeps going around handing brown envelopes to his minions.
What a joke of a country. I think we need to find other political system for Dominica, how about Plantationcratic system as opposed to democratic system????

Hypocrisy at it’s finest. Here we have the great apprehentist who apparently is still learning the tricks of the trade on how to be a proper P.M. handing out chicken feed stipends to someone and he demands a detailed report card which enlists how every golden cent will be spent. Yet our kindergarten P.M., the great Mr. thinks he knows it all can use our hard earned tax payers $$$ to travel at will, spend at will, throw lavish baroness scotland parties at will, and let’s now forget his most memorable donation to date, handing out $60,000 to a dead Indian Buddha without giving anyone in the country an account of our money whereabouts!!!!

What best, the man is nothing but a false pretender, all the time the, PR was calling on Skerrit to do something about the road he and his administration did nothing, this is so sickening to see that Skerrit is using a sad situation to his advantage, Some Dominican are very easy to fool, I do hope that the people of the Roseau South Constituency will see that this is a form of bribery for political gain, what a disgraceful and tasteless move by skerrit, seems like he was is in waiting for something bad to happen to the opposition. Members for him to make his move, Marigot watch out, Salsbury watch out, Wesley watch out, their first move with Mr Lugay failed, Roseau Central look out, skerrit and the rest of his bunch of traitors are discussing behind closed doors Dominicans, there are traitors on board for we all know what happened in the bark must come out in the light

    • March 14, 2016

Continue praying for God to Bless skerritt, at the same time he is selling Dominica and your behind to all crooks out their making his millions, preparing himself for the mighty fall of Lady Dominica, and when it is said and done he anf his peoples will be laughing at we the jackasses wherever they he make his move to reside. Look at Dominica today under Skerrit, look at our roads, look at agriculture, look at our hospital to name a few. Poverty on the rise, look at the mess in Dominica today, look at corruption in government and look at the police force, gone are the days of the former police commissioners, what taking place in
the dominica police force today under Carbon, would never happened in the days of Evander Joseph and the past high ranks of years gone by. Lady Dominica Heart is bleeding and she is crying out to be deliver from Skerrit and all the evil forces destroying her once upon a time beautiful and gorgeous features, skerrit is not trying to do nothing to help…
