It’s a good thing he is going to Belize. Should have used it as an opportunity to take a cultural group and or a kalinago delegation well as officers from the ministry of agriculture with him. I wonder how they get there, Da to PR to Mia to Bze?Da to Antigua to Mia to Bze? Long trip to get to the neighbour’s yard, isn’t it? PM Barrow invited PM Skerrit but they don’t have much in common.

What is he going to say there; or ask for? Belize is a very poor Country. The leaders keep the people poor to get their votes. Same thing here in Dominica.

    Here is the news report:

    http://edition.channel5belize.com/archives/79050

So certainly, the Government has lied about its activities regarding Mr. McAfee. There are many more incidences, equally as astonishing, that we will be revealing.

The next question is: Is the Government of Belize Corrupt?

    Freedomhouse has this to say:

Government corruption remains a serious problem. Belize is the only country in Central America that is not a party to the UN Convention against Corruption.

    ___________

Journalists or others who question the financial disclosures of government officials may face up to three years in prison or up to US$2,500 in fines.

    ___________

Defendants can remain in pretrial detention for years amid a heavy case backlog; about one-fifth of the country’s detainees are awaiting trial.

    ___________

In September, the government brokered a truce among rival gangs in response to complaints made by residents and alleged gang members of police brutality by the Gang Suppression Unit. Extrajudicial killings (State sanctions murders) and the use of excessive force remain concerns.

    ___________

Belize was added to the U.S. list of “major” drug producing and transit countries in 2011 because of large numbers of drugs and weapons seized along its border with Mexico and weak anticorruption measures. According to the International Center for Prison Studies, Belize has the world’s 9th-highest prisoner-to-public ratio, with about 439 inmates per 100,000 inhabitants. Prisons do not meet minimum international standards.

    _____________

Belize is a source, transit, and destination country for women and children trafficked for prostitution and forced labor. The majority of trafficked women are from Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador. The trafficking of workers from South Asia and China for forced labor has also been uncovered in recent years.

My bad! I meant to post this one on Belize but since I had both articles open, I posted the wrong one.

Our little Caribbean country situated in Central America is naturally an attraction for a large number of nationalities and because of its tourist attractions, richness in natural resources, diversity in ethnicity, its ease of access, and geographic location serving as a doorway to the United States of America, the Caribbean, and Central America, it attracts people with both good and bad intentions. No matter who comes or goes, we as Belizeans must protect what God has blessed us with and we must not fall to the temptation of encouraging evil in our country. Still, our country has been plagued with both national and international criticisms and many of us have stood and watched sadly as some of those same people who have been given the honorable opportunity to manage our resources have mismanaged and plundered in the same way our Colonial masters raped our country of its richness. Is this attitude of greed and thoughtlessness a pass-off from the days of slavery too?

Corruption has plagued Belize to a large degree for years now and sadly, as I mentioned above, speculations have been directed way into the heart of our nation to its politically elected leaders

DNO, is anyone surprised? “Birds of a feather always flock together.” In other words, “Show me your friends and I will tell you who you are.” Just read part of this article produced by USA Today on June 23, 2013

Brazil: 250K protest against government corruption

Tens of thousands of demonstrators took to the streets in several cities Saturday
Protests were smaller and less violent than recent days
President Dilma Rousseff backed the right to peaceful protests but condemned violence

SAO PAULO (AP) — A quarter-million Brazilians took to the streets in the latest a wave of sometimes-violent protests that are increasingly focusing on corruption and reforming a government system in which people have lost faith. A new poll shows that 75 percent of citizens support the protest.
So you understand why Skerrit is guest of honour

ADMIN: The country where the PM is the guest of honor is Belize, not Brazil.

In our little island Dominica, we are so small, our population is so small, why is it that we cannot eliminate poverty?

    • Justice and Truth
      September 19, 2013

There is a reason why poverty has not yet been eradicated. It may never if, commencing with the youths who care only for themselves, not for their future and country.
How many are paying taxes? How many of especially the youth who took their studies seriously and completed both elementary and high schools?
Cease blaming the government for their shortcomings. They had an opportunity while in school to educate themselves. Some of them failed to do this. They grew up to adulthood and some never worked.
In a country where people go about having babies out of wedlock with different partners, expect poverty. Where some of them ingest illegal drugs and are not able to function, to as much as complete schooling and obtain a job, there will be poverty. This is the reason why poverty exists in Dominica.
Some people do not see what ails the country and causes poverty. Know this, not only Dominica but elsewhere in the world. The same applies to those other countries. Every country of the world has poverty.

I hope Prime Minister Dean Barrow and the Belize Government were not asked to listen to Skerrit’s speech during the DLP delegate conference. If they did, I reckon he would have to explain why he insulted the former Prime Minister of Dominica Mr. Edison James and Mr. Lennox Linton Opposition leader of the United Workers Party by calling them bastards. Oh, by the way, I understood he is also a bastard. With that kind of behavior coming from a Prime Minister, I believe it is time to discard the bastard.

If we understood international politics and protocol we would not be making those misinformed comments.Belize in a member of CARICOM. Travelling is a big aspect of a prime minister’s functions, meetings , negotiations etc must take place. That’s why we need a PM that is smart, wise, respectful and well qualified to be PM.I mean someone like Mr.Roosevelt Skerrit. Lets not drop our standards, we should not vote a man as PM who merely meets the basic constitutional requirement- ability to read and write. It’s not about sound, anger, bitterness, and vindictiveness , it’s about substance. QUALIFICATIONS. Ability to deal with and understand complex issues.Would you hire Lennox to run your company? He would pass you and your other workers straight wee… Lennox will feel threatened by his regional and international counterparts because they all know that he is not up to par, he has no letters after his name.

    • 4u2c
      September 18, 2013

This has not been the first meeting or invitation by other countries to Mr. Skerrit. He has been doing that for the past 10 yrs and all the discussions that went down he has yet to show the people he has understood anything. He has brought back nothing for the country, started nothing to improve lives so to me and many others he lost the opportunity and the ability to negotiate and initiate joint ventures with other leaders at such meetings. At this time LENOX does not need anything at the back of his name because he has proven he has the ability to make positive change. Meeting with other Head of state does not shake Lenox by any means. He is much more capable than the man with the English degree that cannot negotiate and does not understand what it is to put country first.
Lenox with no letters behind his name has force the man with the letters at the back of his name to put back $0.5 Million to the treasury so that Civil servants can get paid and some of the public commitments can be met. He has force the PM to pay back over $50,000.00 back to the Treasury. Apart from such great achievement he has a resume that shows productivity in the various areas he has worked..DCP, CANA, ETC…Lenox way pass the PM when it come to performance and we know he can negotiate and put his country first. It is time for folks with useless degrees to get out of office. Who knows, I would like to see what number he came out in that graduation class…..Anywhere else in the world he would be driving a TAxi not qualified to sell oranges on the side of the road.
Lenox LINTON -is brilliant(BR), intelligent(INT), can think on his feet, independent in decision making, Love his country(LC) and love Dominicans(LD) but most of all has INTEGRITY(INTEG)…He has a lot of great letters at the back of his name . Show me what PM has ……I will leave that for u…

All governments send invitations to their colleagues to attend their Independence celebrations, but if the Prime Ministers accept all invitations they will spend half the year being guests of honor.
So what’s the big deal in Skerrit going to Belize for independence? He will invite the Belizean in November to open the Palace.
Since Lennox came on the scene the PM dezoolay, he doh know what to do!
I think he should just calm down, relax and realize that after 15 years the road is coming to a bend. Is this the first time he is invited to an independence anniversary of a sister Caribbean island? I don’t think so, but with Lennox on his back he getting on like a born-a-gain christian.

Collin is the wrong choice to be out of state at this time unless of course he will be travelling late this evening. After all a very important activity (official opening of Shawford water supply)is taking place today at Shawford in his constituency at a time when Collin’s popularity is waning. He has a lot of ground work to do unless of course he has given up on the seat. His presence at the ceremony today is fundamental to assisting in reversing the current popular decline. PM take note.
