Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has committed himself in providing support to the Dominica Association of Persons with Disabilities (DAPD) in an effort to building back Dominica.

This was according to Education Minister Petter Saint who was speaking on behalf of Prime Minister, Roosevelt Skerrit during the 32nd Annual General Meeting (AGM) held at the Dominica Public Service Union (DPSU) building on earlier this week.

“I hereby recommit myself, and this is speaking for the Prime Minister, as Prime Minister and the government of Dominica to reconvene with your leadership on a schedule that is fitting to you and your executive so that together we may harness and coordinate our efforts at building back Dominica better, at radically advancing the vision of our nation as a place of possibilities, in ensuring that you are actively involved in national development,” he said.

He added, “I want therefore in recognition of your solid demonstration that your mission is central to the development of this country to commit to redoubling our efforts as a country, as a government, as political organizations, Christian brethren, citizens and human beings to working even more closely with your organization and community, because what you want we want.”

Saint Jean said further that, “And as political leader, a separate and different capacity all together, I am directing the President of the Dominica Labour Party (DLP), Minister for Education and Human Resource Development to convene a group to include the Minister for Social Services, Honourable Catherine Daniel to take a fresh look into the role that your organization can play in advancing the interest of the disable community in Dominica in collaboration with our organization.”

Saint Jean stated that the Prime Minister congratulates the DAPD for achieving the milestone of their 32nd Annual General Meeting.

“What you want we all as Dominicans want because you are us and we are you,” he noted. “Had the DAPD not been formed in 1983, it would have had to be formed thereafter because the DAPD is the expression of our better selves.”

According to Saint Jean the DAPD is in itself an example of affirmative action, “in a world where too often it seems easier to sit back and do nothing or if one does something it is negative.”

Meantime Dominica’s sole electricity company, DOMLEC presented a cheque of $2,000 to the DAPD as part of its annual donation.

The cheque was presented to President of the DAPD, Irma Raymond- Joseph by Public Relations Officer of DOMLEC, Adina Bellot-Valentine.

Bellot-Valentine said DOMLEC will continue to assist the DAPD in any way that it can.

workers; workers and workers again! sorry for the leadership. You are asked to make a comment ,instead you write an ESSAY. What a good idea to show the disabled that we do care.

While you’re at it, contemplate on how you can create good jobs with good benefits for the masses so that in the unfortunate situation disability occurs they could sustain themselves instead of waiting on you for a handout to make them feel like they’re obligated to return the favor in the form of a vote for you next election. Also work on improving that unstable social security system you all have in place so that future retirees and disabilities could have something worthwhile to live on when they retire. But wait, what retire? I forgot that hardly anyone has a job so social security will remain in shambles because hardly anyone from this feeble workforce is chipping in

A promise is as good as an empty wallet. It’s ok to make promises and that we have had a lot of the last 15 years, but it’s another thing to see them come to pass as Saint Jean will remember very vividly because he too was there when Skerrit promised his people two ships 5 years ago so they could ship their produce and all they ever got was hips (flip letters around, or better yet Sheep-easily fooled animals).

I know Skerrit in the past has made several unfulfilled promises to the DAPD, and I not optimistic about new promises. Well let me change it around because there is a rumor out there that suggests Reggie Austrie might now be a secret member of the DAPD, and since he always has a Petro Caribe cheque book that Skerrit cannot take from him, this time around Skerrit might be forced to help the DAPD because he sure does not want to get a kick from a donkey leg or horse leg.

The last line of my comment should read, because he (Skerrit) sure does not want to get a back kick from a donkey leg or a horse leg especially in the groin area.
