Skerrit is to thank the people of Barbados for support after Erika

Prime Minister of Dominica Roosevelt Skerrit is expected to attend the One Caribbean Concert For the Children of Dominica at Kensington Oval tonight (Sunday).

According to Leader of the Opposition Mia Mottley, Prime Minister Skerrit wanted to come in person to thank Barbadians for their continued generosity to the people of Dominica since it was affected by Tropical Storm Erika on August 27.

“Though Barbadians are going through difficult times they still have been prepared to give unselfishly, and this reflects the ultimate generosity and spirit of Barbadians. They have demonstrated that all of us are one people”, Mottley told the press late yesterday evening.

She stated that Skerrit is also coming to personally thank the large number of regional entertainers who have come together to perform for free at the concert.

The One Caribbean Concert For The Children Of Dominica was conceptualized by Mottley and will feature 40 artistes from seven Caribbean territories.

Those performing at the concert include Dominica’s own Michele Henderson; Maxi Priest, Luciano, Admiral Tibet and Tanya Stephens from Jamaica; Destra Garcia, Ricardo Drue, and Denise Belfond of Trinidad and Tobago; Skinny Fabulous and Hypa 400 from St. Vincent and the Grenadines; Tedyson John of St. Lucia; and Tian Winters of Antigua and Barbuda.

Barbadian artistes will include Party Monarch king Peter Ram, Red Plastic Bag, Neesha Woods, Marvey, Sanctuary, Lil Rock, Shanta Prince, Keanne Walters, Don Trent, King Bubba FM, Edwin, Rupee, and Lead Pipe & Saddis.

With all of these crap you folks write about a man who has yet to show himself as a leader – Still, that same man continues to win elections by landslides. Who fault is it? I think the whole strategy needs to change. I once had a dog that barked at any and everything – People thought I had a bad dog; until a drunker wondered in our yard by mistake and the dog took off running behind the house. People are barking and barking at skeritt and he continues to do the same things and worse.

It’s fine to hide behind your laptop and lash at the man – But if you all are really dissatisfied with the Government’s performance; then do the things that will bring about the change that’s needed, and stop wasting your precious time. Form groups around the country and demonstrate for better condition in Dominica. If I was skeritt I wouldn’t give a hoot about what is said about me. I’d keep taking and take more; right under your noses – Because all you do is bark. You all have no damn teeth. B…

Well I applaud our fellow Caribbean islands for coming together to aid Dominica. However, why couldn’t we do that for ourselves, I think the government was too quick to cancel WCMF and the relief concert I thought is that this year WCMF would have been one of the best only if the government provided live streaming of the show word wide and have a code running across the screen where people would know how to donate. Let the world see that yes we were broken by the storm but we WILL RISE AGAIN and though we are in need of help we can help ourselves first.

One last thing I think the relief supplies should stop before people get too dependent on the relief goods. We cant stay crying over spilled milk forever life moves one and we need to move on

Is mista a prime minister? Prime Minister of The Bahamas Rt. Hon. Perry Christie; Leader of the Opposition Hon. Dr. Hubert A. Minnis, the Minister of Tourism and other officials travelled to Long Island on Saturday to assess the impact of Hurricane Joaquin.
Even meeting maduro, all other countries bringing the opposition leader who died and made mister king of Dominica time mister get a life, Dominica will never rise again with mista ego and childish ways.

What is so wrong about the PM showing his presence at the Concert. I think it is a good show of gratitude. Sometimes we just have to stop being petty – stop making trivial things a grand show. There are much more important things for us to discuss.

hey Holalala, and how much you think that little trip going to cost to the Treasury?? does the PM travel alone ?? I don’t think so. wake up you can say thanks you over the phone or on internet and save thousand of public money! ask him how much did he spend just to say thanks you
and after this you will tell us how many people you can feed for how many days with the same amount??
      have a nice day!

I have no problems with the Honourable Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit going to the Fund Raising Fete in Barbados at his own expense even though the Bajans did not invite him: “According to Leader of the Opposition Mia Mottley, Prime Minister Skerrit wanted to come in person to thank Barbadians for their continued generosity to the people of Dominica since it was affected by Tropical Storm Erika on August 27.”

But couldn’t a Dominican living in Barbados thank the Bajans on behalf of the Dominica… Come on Mr Prime Minister that amounts to wasteful spending on a useless trip

I find it sad sad how the PM can endorse this concert. It being made public of him attending and in a few weeks we were to host our own WCMF. He cancel WCMF and describe it in a way that belittle our national beer and the WCMF. I AM A SUPPORTER OF THE DLP but I am sadden by the fact we took away an event that attract over 10,000 visitors yearly in the month of October. An event that contribute to stay over visitors. October has over the years been the month that has the highest visitor arrival yet we take out the one event that contribute to this happening. Barbados just create an event One Caribbean that will be examine by the persons who host and will realize hey lets keep this each year. Because to me the line up is better than the WCMF. Barbados will brand this and create this as an event that will open up their tourist season wait and see. We could have just call WCMF, WCMF Relief edition. To be continued…….

Meantime PM Skerrit spend 33 million dollars on an election campaign and he only raised just over $13 million dollars ($6 million from insurance). Where are Skerrit’s friends when he needs them? Dominica economy is plummeting downhill and the PM has no clue what to do. People things are going to get real bad. All growth engines are down, no friends to help. Don’t want to be a prophet of doom and gloom but sorry we are in an economic disaster. God help my island

You people act as if the PM is your little boy and has to ask you permission to travel on behalf of Dominica. You even think of the reason why he will be going to Barbados.
He is the PM and he doesn’t have to ask your permission. He felt it is in his interest for Dominica and on behalf of Dominica that he travel to Barbados for the relief concert “on behalf of Dominica” and you non-supporters are at it again making derogatory comments.
It is obvious you lack love, peace and compassion. Do you not consider that people as you with your types of vile words caused TS Erika to devastate D/ca? Your indifferent actions could cause much devastation to Dominica. It includes division and disunity.
I wonder what will it take for you to change your overall attitude, another worst storm/hurricane, this one to affect you people who hate the PM and his supporters? Your evil actions project itself on this Website.    :twisted

i am beginning to realize something fishy about that whole relief thing for Dominica . Dominican your economy is not going to grow by begging everybody else for a little donation it time the government put something in place to get its people back to work it is clear the country is suffering from a management problem . For the pass years I have heard real money enter this island land but we have nothing to show for it . We will get the 1.3 billion the pm say we need and yet will will be the same position the problem is there is not enough young bright educated people in the country they all have gone away to study and never return so we are left with the same old heads from the seventies to make critical decisions for us if u don’t belive check who is our president and more so look at who the pm employed to over see the reconstruction of the country don’t get me wrong those guys may mean well for the country but my people this is not there time who is the engineer on that group…

Boy this PM continue to make DOM look like a…….. I hope he have a banks in either hand and whining up on a woman at the activities. This PM have not displayed any maturity and his thinking can be compared to a grade 2 thinking. Why does he have to come in person to thank this group, whilst last weekend there was a whole weekend of activities in Barbados and he didn’t come in person to thank them?

This trip to Barbados is just a distraction from the origin of the PM. The question is why is he boarding a flight from JFK and who is paying for that. where did he come from originally and what was the reason that he couldn’t addresse the UN. Them fellas think they are smart with all of their crap that they are doing.

in the mean time they are victimizing people back home putting a bunch of can’t do individuals in positions and expect the country to progress, but as can be seen from the past 15 years of this administration they have taken the country downhill. The IMF is going to…

I mean where is the protocol and wisdom of the Prime Minister? Why is he once again using Erika for political mileage? Why was he not present during the wICB/UWI celebrity cricket match last Sunday night , at the same venue? Was it not to help Dominica after Erika Skerit?

Mr. Skerrit, you are going to the concert because you want to use Erika to give public support to Mia Mottley, who is the leader of The Barbados Labor Party, in an attempt to under mind the current Prime Minister of Barbados Rt. Hon. Freundel J. Stuart. Skerrit, please remember the following and don’t be malonet:

    1. The day of Erika you were coming from Macau and got stock. It was the PM of Barbados that helped you with helicopter ride so you could tour the island.
    2. Barbados is a member of CARICOM
    3. Don’t forget a contingent from Barbados was in Dominica helping with search and rescue
    4. It was because of similar actions the USA were not seen during Erika. If Bados is treated the same way, DA will be…

The UN gathering would have been an ideal situation to solicit more international assistance while a minister in government could go to Barbados to say thank you or even a live showing via teleconference or a tsped thank you message. After all every penny we can save will help the struggling economy.

    • I, Me, & I Alone
      October 4, 2015

@ Lang Mama, you all need to understand the truth. Skerrit WILL NOT be there to say thank you, but to give support to, and help promote Mia Mottley, who is the opposition leader of the Barbados Labor Party.

Let’s not be fooled in Dominica. Was Skerrit in Barbados last Sunday night for the celebrity T20 cricket match, which was played at the same venue, to help Dominica after Erika? Why not? Skerrit is ALL about politics, and since the game was not about politics he did not go. However, this concert is a RED concert, using Erika for political points.

@ joe hy, The reason why you still suspecting the real reason is because you like many others do not have a clue of Skerrit’s selfish politics.

I am not suspecting but I put it to you that the real reason is to help promote opposition leader Mia Mottely, who is the leader of the Barbados Labor party. In other words, the Prime Minister of Dominica is indirectly helping to weaken the current PM of Barbados, by using Erika. Wasn’t the celebrity cricket match of last week played in Barbados, at the same venue, and funds are for to help Dominica? Why did the PM not present to thank the people? Politics! Politics! Politics!

All the critics of pm skerrit are so blinded by hate that they don.t think, they just talk and react.if you guys were thinkers you would know the real reason for the pm visit to barbados.it is to thank the people of barbados and the artistes participating in the benefit concert, but the real reason i suspect is to seek the assistance of those to hold artistes a similar benefit concert in Dominica sometimes in the near future.i don,t know wether it is before independence or after independence, but some time in the future.so after all these criticism for cancelling the wcmf, and all these attacks you guys really believe that skerrit would go to barbados to personally thank the bajans and the artistes.you the opponents of of pm skerrit will always be defeated by him, thus the reason you guys hate him with a passion.

But wait a minute nou. I did not see the Prime Minister in Barbados last Sunday night, during the WICB/ UWI celebrity cricket match that was to raise funds for Dominica, after Erika? Was he there Tony or simeon?

In fact in his unscheduled radio address to the nation last Tuesday night, just to distract Angelo from talking about NG Lap Seng I believe, the PM said how we all felt when we watched on our TV’s, to see Sir Garfield Sobers walking down the field to toss the coin, which would signal the start of the celebrity game to help Dominica. So in his own words he said we saw the game on TV? So why was the PM not present to thank them?

Am I to conclude that the PM is more interested in going to the concert this time in the same Barbados to give political support to his political friend and party Mia Mottley, of the BARBADOS LABOR PARTY (That’s my problem with DNO. They don’t educate us. All they said is the Opposition. Give the name of the part), in the face of PM of Bados?

All those that are upset about the reason the PM gave for cancelling WCMF ought to follow Mr. Skerrit to Barbados. In Barbados we are free to hold a Kubuli in each hand (sorry, I meant a “Banks beer” in each hand since it is the local brewed bear of Barbados), and go to a hotel or concert and whinne on the booty of as many women as possible because donors will see not see us to call us hypocrites. However, if we kept WCMF our local Kubuli would sell and donors will say we don’t need help. So as usual, let us go help the economy of a foreign country by helping them sell their “Banks Beer” sell at the expense of our kubuli.

Dominica’s Regime believes in too much freebies
Why didn’t Dominica grow it’s economy over the past 15 years..

Dominica lacks Leadership, Mamo didn’t run all over the world like a headless human after David, neither Did Edo in 95 after the three storms..

Did Grenada do that after Ivan or St.Lucia a few years ago?

Management of Dominica is the issue..this island lacks direction to he core..
The Prime Minister is a player, thus him unable to get any serious aid…
Folks in the global loop can easily see through Skerrit as someone who is untruth to leadership.

James that’s the level of communication that Skeritt is capable of and his supporters like you can comprehend. That’s the reason he gave for cancellations of WCMF and you thought how wise. See how that got your response. Ok. a wise man would understand that apart from cable, telephone service and water none of the other services were affected. The hospital was fine, hotels, fine, all ministries fine, police and fire services were fine except communication and road blocks. Petite Savannah, God bless the soul, was not the financial or administrative center of Dominica, neither was caulihaut or coulibistri. All but one of the retail stores were functional so there should not be shortage of perishable goods. In his wisdom he has waived tarrifs on barrels, accepted influx of goods instead of going through our retail stores. Don’t you guys stop an think for a sec that all the canned goods sent had to be bought somewhere. Walmart and other US retailers smiling because they got huge…

When a prospective donor country is thinking of providing assistance to another country they have to be mindful of their own nationals at home. That money they intend sending is coming from their national treasury. It is fair to say that the inhabitants of that country may well think that the money could be used at home.
So that donor country must satisfy itself that the target country is being run with transparency and that the country is well managed else its like throwing their money into a ditch.
So if that country looks at DA and sees money being wasted e.g. the size of the cabinet, all the useless hangers on. that donor country is well within its rights to say to us boss call us when you have streamlined your public spending. E.G. Those 5 persons PM gave posts to at $80,000 per annum can you tell me what they are adding to our development. have you heard of Ambrose George since his appointment. So during the past 15 years where are the growth engines in Dominica..are they squeezing a lime to export Or Processing any root crops etc..those are the critical pointers a foolish society must re-think…

Dominica is Plummeting due to lack of vision, the International Agencies won’t take Dominica’s Prime Minister Seriously as his language is childish and petty, just look at how he describes his WCMF, event etc…he Lacks Class and is consider a Big Baby with toys..

The Leader must reduce his cabinet size to show the world he is serious in getting aid..if he Doesn’t Dominica will be DOOMED..

But the Degree orientated Foolish advisers aren’t conscious enough to tell him so..

Dominica is a land of fools, which will never rise, due to their inability to do the right things…

This is interesting. So, a relief concert is being held because Dominica needs money to recover and rebuild. But, the PM has decided that it makes sense to spend Dominicans money (and probably a fair amount of it) to allow him to attend the concert in Barbados instead of putting that money to use to help Dominica and Dominicans directly. That should be his priority, so something does not seem right about this. He could find another way to say thank you to all. Maybe a statement, maybe an email, maybe a phone call. Bad judgment here.

@ A George, you are so right about that. No comments on DNO has exposed the hypocrisy and dirty politics of Skerrit like yours, and it also revealed our stupidity as a nation. You are right because of the following:

        1. Prime Minister of Barbados Hon. Freundel J. Stuart, really did ALOT to help Dominica post TS Erika, according to you.
        2. It CANNOT be right, ethical, or wise to be part of an event organized by opposition leader Mia Mottley, leader of the Barbados Labor Party, when Dominica is still reeling from TS Erika, and Stuart is still PM. How unwise!
        3. A ticket to Barbados is not expensive and one night in hotel is not too much. That’s why I am still amazed that Skerrit did not go support the celebrity cricket match last Sunday.
        4. Your comment is further proof of how ignorant, naïve, and easily fooled Dominicans are, in there defense of Skerrit.

So why the opposition here could not have something here?

      October 4, 2015

But @ really, the question I know you meant to ask is, ‘so why the 18 cabinet government here could not have something here?’ Maybe you even intended to add, ‘so why did the government of Barbados hosted such event?’

If I don’t make any sense just take a look at my name and forgive me for my name sake.
