PM Skerrit will deliver the lecture on foreign policy

Prime Minister of Dominica, the Honourable Roosevelt Skerrit, will on Monday, be the keynote speaker at an lecture in Grenada that will focus, in part, on foreign policy.

The event, dubbed the “Inaugural March 13th Lecture”, is being organized by the Grenada Revolution Memorial Foundation Inc. (GREMFO) and Groundation Grenada.

Skerrit will speak on the topic: “The Grenada Revolution, Foreign Policy and Development of Small Island States in the Present International Environment”.

According to a spokesman for the organizers, “The choice of this year’s topic is influenced by the recent re-establishment of relations between Cuba and the United Sates and by other trends in international relations which pose challenges for small Caribbean states.”

GREMFO is a non-profit organization that members say is “working towards achieving a fair and balanced assessment of the impact of the 1979 Revolution on Grenada and the wider Caribbean; and fostering a spirit of reconciliation among persons affected by the Grenada Revolution and its demise”.

Groundation Grenada comprises young Grenadians “committed to preserving and embracing Grenada’s history generally, but also the history of the Grenada Revolution, more specifically”.

“We intend to make the March 13th lecture an annual event to be facilitated by prominent local, regional or international persons on topics of current interest,” the spokesman said.

The first in the planned annual lecture series, to which Skerrit has been invited to speak, is on Monday, March 16 (Adapted from Caribbean News Now).

Ask him why he gave Aves Island on a plate to Venezuela, then recognised it as an island and not a rock. The results were surrendering thousands of square miles of sea and sea bed loaded with oil and gas to the Venezuelans.

    Ask him the question.

Skerrit’s expression says he is shallow, fickle too. The guy cannot speak lack depth and want to put him self in interlectual discuss? Look problem for DA Grenadians will have a field day.
The man lacks the cojones to confront his own opposition leader how can he impact Grenadians and others. people love eloquence, and sound knowledge .Does Skrit possess either?

DNO, for sum unknown reason many of my comments are eliminated, I do not know if there is someone who has a personal vendetta that each time they have to approve my comment throws it into the garbage bin.

The comments I made regarding Bitcoin is all over the Internet, about the man who brought it to Dominica, if you want a court case filing number against the man I can provide it. Secondly, the comments I made about Skerrit lecturing in Grenada, is elementry. He is not in Grenada on an invitation of the government, but by so called revolutionist remnants of people who overthrew a duly elected government lead by the late Erick Garry.

It resulted in the assassination of the leader of the revolution Maurice Bishop, by Bernard Core, his second in command. If you goggle ” the Grenada Revolution” you will discover the names of all the people involved, there is no liability of a law suit in any comments I make, be it about Skerrit or any one else, anything I say can be…

Skerrit will really give a very good lecture on foreign policy based on experience. His experience is bringing foreign artists to perform at election rallies. Then turn around and unleash his tax officers on the so called private sector. He needs to replenish the coffers. He really knows how to do it.

With respect Roosevelt, shouldn’t you be at home addressing the urgent issues affecting your people right now instead of trying to make an impression on the international stage? You are the P.M. of Dominica first and foremost. If our island is too small for your ambitions remember that it also provided you with your power base. I would like you to be more grateful to the people, who voted for you. Please!

im proud of my PM being the first to give the lecture at this annual event, however im wondering how will he expound on the importance of solidarity, allegiance and committment between countries which has diplomatic ties when he was the one who ALLEGEDLY illegally made ties with The PRC behind Taiwans back in a hotel in Bdos, also how will he talk about transparency of the memorandum of understanding between countries when he again alledgedly kept the one between D/ca and The PRC in hiding.

Knowing my PM now for 15yrs he will swiftly ignore and get around these points if they came up in question and answer session lol. I commend my PM tho for the good he has done.

Dominica’s foreign ‘policy’ is directed by its donor countries: we support the one China policy in return for financial aid, we support Morroco in its suppression of the Western Sahara people, and we turn a blind eye to the dubious activities of despots such as MADuro. We even had ties with Gadaffi, remember ? It’s not a policy at all.

This is the most absurd thing i have heard for 2015. Wonder why Grenadians are so blind. Our foreign policy is in a mess and Skerrit want to tell Grenadians bout foreign policy. SHAME ON GRENADIANS!

I think with his background of 15 yers the PM will do a good joband he has the right experence to share with the Grernadian people. After all he first in the Feedom party who were against independence and socialism, nexthe became a socialist with all the other freedomites. He knowes alot about forign polic how to sing for his supper, and he is doing a good job in that aspect for the island.

The organizers if you all note wants to have a fair and balance lecture series. That means hearing from all side of the political spectrum. Not just one side. Now, if you guys remember the revolution in Grenada was about a wider ideological fight about communism/socialism and capitalism/democratic government systems. Back then like today in Dominica this was a struggle with our leaders. Today, in light of the softening of sanctions on Cuba by American and the actions of Mr. Skeritt who strongly encourages socialist ideals, it is only fitting that he is called to give such speech to represent the perspective that encourages socialist/Communist ideals. I hope the Grenada people strongly question him on this. It would be interesting to hear the speech since his friends are gadaffi and the likes and his actions thus far has taken us back to the 1979 era. It will be interesting to hear if what he says matches what he does or he continue to say what you want to hear.

I object, strongly object. I do not know what Skerrit stands for….I do not know his political ideals, if there is one. I do not think Skerrit believes or understands in anything of good governance in public office, respect the poor and vulnerable people. I do not believe that he understand the plight and fight of poor people, let alone to be guest speaker at the Grenada revolution function. I guess the script/speech will be well crafted for him and he will deliver.
Dominica is in a state of deprivation, poverty, sexual abuse rising under his watch and questionable leadership skills (if both one can claim as good qualities of this man), secret or unclaimed deals, that we the state need to know about.
The Grenada revolution has moved on, Dominica`s own is still in the making for dignity, peace, good governance, transparency in high office, accountability of peoples tax money etc.
      Viva Grenada…..viva Dominica

I think Skeritt knows exactly what good governance is. It requires you play by the rules, which is not in PM DNA. Everything Skeritt has done is to feel good about himself and not for the best interest of Dominica. Why else do you think he avoids dealings with US government? He deals with all these countries that has no oversight on funds disbursed. I think the people of Dominica is more a problem than Skeritt. They accept mediocrity, accept abuse, accept disrespect, accept corrupted practices. As long as you give them in the spoils they OK. I will say as before; our society is already down the drains and Skeritt knows it. Why else is his son not born in the land he leads. He will continue to play with Dominicans ignorance.

It shows our people are still in the dark on such issues. Those who know better follow amidst the heard. The political scientist, cafeteria commies ,many a Cuban grad more so the earlier ones who were more idealogical compared to those who took the opportunity to study later say in the 90’and onwards.
This all opportunism with a human face taking place in DA today. Look at Athie cadres what have they done of late? Blend in who gone churchie, who have gros Pwel who is lawyer & making their $ so is Skrit et Al.

I just hope Mr. Skerrit’s “lecture” will shed light on the negative effects of a dysfunctional foreign policy agenda on domestic economic development, in particular, the drag on economic growth from foreign policy initiatives that divert attention from investing in people and domestic industries to boost local employment and economic growth.
And while he is on the subject, Mr Skerrit might also wish to address the troubling question of corruption in developing contries and how foreign partnerships can help or hinder the effort to stem the tide of corruption which is the bane of most developing cointries.
Beyond these concerns, I remain somewhat baffled by the selection of Mr. Skerrit for this lecture. It is not as if he has distinguished himself in the foreign policy arena except by his unusual collection of pariah leaders as mentors including the late Ghadaffi of Lybia and Hugo Chavez and Maduro of Venezuela, neither of whom who are exactly paragons of enlightened leadership.

Not only that. Roosevelt Skerrit was a member of the Dame’s Freedom party no less, till he was persuaded by Rosie Douglas to change allegiance for reward.
