PM Skerrit to present over half billion-dollar budget in Parliament

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit, is expected to present the 2016-2017 national budget at the First Meeting of the Second Session of the Ninth Parliament under the Commonwealth of Dominica Constitution on Tuesday morning.

This year’s budget stands at $680,798,190.

The total recurrent budget is $367,459,001, which total capital budget is $313,339,189.

In the total capital budget for the year, the Ministry of Public Works and Ports will get the lion’s share of $137,254,540.

This is followed by the Ministry of Health and the Environment and the Ministry of Housing, Lands and Water Resource Management of $33,233,853 and $32,414,128 respectively.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries will get a sum of $25,368,698, while the Ministry of Trade, Energy and Employment will recieve $24,505,901.

Other ministries will received funds ranging from $13-million to $850,000.

Before the budget is presented, President of Dominica, His Excellency Charles Savarin will deliver the President’s Address.

Proceedings begin at 10:oo am.
