The police have said they will be stressing safety at this year’s Creole in the Park with emphasis on venue security, traffic management and a robust patrol within Roseau and the environs.

At a press conference on Thursday, October 20th, 2016 at the Dominica Police Head Quarters. Assistant Superintendent of Police Richmond Valentine stated that the main entrance to the event will be on Valley road, the secondary entrance will be on Elmshall road and the VIP entrance to the venue will be the north eastern gate at the intersection of Elmshall Road and Valley Road.

The exit gate will be on Valley road, with patrons using the northern gate immediately behind the Gardens pavilion.

Valentine also spoke of a zero tolerance approach to offensive weapons during the event.

“Persons who are found with any article which fits the description of an offensive weapon, that is to say, knife, cutlass, scissors, ice picks or nail files, will be removed from the venue and dealt with according to law,” he warned. “There will absolutely be no compromise. There is no justifiable reason why someone would want to have any of those articles in the possession at the venue. My advice to those persons who are thinking of coming to the venue with weapons, save yourself the embarrassment because your Creole in the Park may just be spent at designated space at Police Headquarters.”

Valentine also warned licensed firearm holders that their weapons will not be allowed at the venue .

He noted that during the event, police officers will be dressed in uniform and plain clothes “and will dominate the grounds at the Botanical Gardens and with specific instructions and that is any violation of the laws of Dominica, the appropriate action will be taken.”

In partnership with Flow, the owner and manager of Platinum Security Khimo Astaphan assured the public that the venue will be under strict video surveillance.

“There will be high- resolution cameras around the venue that are able to zoom as far back as the gates of the venue with facial recognition to allow the police to properly identify individuals,” he stated. “This year the Platinum security will be introducing and deploying as promised to Mr. Baptiste a particular high-resolution PTZ camera on the stage, as for us we consider that area to be a high risk area with a lot of activity.”

He said all images from the cameras will be transmitted over to the police, to allow them to assess the footage and determine whether or not they will respond to a particular situation.

I am grateful that I’m much too lazy to go and locate trouble. I find peace and tranquility to be much more compatible with my laziness.
