Portsmouth Police Station in bad condition sources say

A section of the roof of the Portsmouth Police Station

Dominica News Online (DNO) has been reliably informed that the Portsmouth Police Station is in a deplorable state and officers are calling for serious attention to be paid to the building.

DNO spoke to a source who has inside knowledge of the matter who said that police officers cannot work under such conditions.

“The condition isn’t that good. Certain parts of the station need to be repaired,” the source stated.

The source stated that the condition of the roof is so bad, that “stuff” falls in pots when police officers are cooking.

“You have to make sure you cover it (the pot),” the source stated.

To compound the situation, the roof leaks whenever it rains.

“The building needs to be refurbished,” the source added.

The source told DNO that a better place is needed in order for the officers to perform better.

DNO is attempting to get a comment from the police hierarchy on the situation.

So Carbon and Valarie don’t know that the station falling in pieces and making officers sick? I remember years ago a young Corporal Smith. R (now residing in North America/ Canada?) took his men from a dilapidated Grand Bay Police Station and brought them to live in the police TV Room at Police Head Quarters when Pierre and Blanchard would not fix the place:mrgreen:   . The big boys could do nothing but immediately sent people fix the station. . Those were the days when officers commanded respect from the public, politicians, peers and senior officers alike. Now them toy-police of today even afraid to go poopoo without El Supremo’ approval. Fellas. fellas, time to go on a massive sick out.

If 50% of officers are always on sick leave (rolling sick out) heads will roll and you all will benefit. Remember; “Esprit De Corps”

How long ago did they observe this condition of the Police Station? Deterioration did not occur overnight but over a certain period. What steps did they take to have it repaired?

If this is indeed the condition of the Portsmouth Police Station, it needs to be addressed ASAP. As the key protection housing unit in the north, immediate action needs to be taken to rectify the situation and should be under teh National Security Ministry. As far as the “reliable source” part of the story, not really necessary as anyone who visits that station can see the condition of the deteriotating structure.

This will hopefully be addressed soon.

Curious to know how many formal inquiries were made for funds to fix the building… you can’t just verbally complain.. put it on paper so you have a #papertrail

  18. March 14, 2017

The ruling party bought a piece of property in the southern village of pte Michel to build a police station , and a fire department building on the same lot which is a big lot , it has been more than almost twenty years and no building has been build, the current police station in pte Michel is a private house being rented to the Government as the police station , when you add all that rent money that is being paid to rent this build from a private person we could have build five police stations , and six fire station to serve the southern region including Soufriere Scotts- head Galion, pte Michel lubiere excreta, no one is mentioning that, the area is full of bushes, trees the Pal rep look like a kid out of higth school who don’t know what the hell she is doing.

Everything in Portsmouth where Labour is concerned is in a bad shape. It is not no knew news. Is Labour they love.

  20. March 14, 2017

Surely these conditions are not conducive to working. But have the officers assigned there put in requests for maintenance works, or are they just complaining and not preparing formal requests. If so were they disregarded? I believe that the ‘reliable source’ can tell us that much.

  21. It's my damn business too man!
    March 14, 2017

The place is so bad and as I can see not healthy, yet none of the officers there was bold enough to say his / her name other than hiding behind “a source”? DOMINICA really afraid of Skerrit boy from police to farmer. No wonder although they all welcome uwp protest, instead of joining they taking gun to protect the common enemy they afraid of.

Agreed the building needs to be repaired but it was not the utmost priority.
Calibishie got a brand new one
Laplaine got a brand new one
Grandbay got a brand new one
    So Portsmouth will be in-line.

The other thing is that the Police don’t take care of the vehicles so they can spend the monies elsewhere as you know they always say they don’t have vehicles.
If you see the amount of new vehicles sitting at Morne Bruce – crashed.

Why complain? you guys can move into one of the many hotels that are being built right there. Hospitals, police stations, roads, bridges and even the airport falling apart but let us build more hotels and wait for visitors to come. The world is reading about Dominica and the Labour Government. Dominica is one the poorest island now.

  26. March 14, 2017

This condition did not just happen overnight. It is much easier to assign blame because this is a politically juicy issue. The important question is as the building deteriorated did the Commissioner and his staff sat back and did nothing? We’re request made for repairs to the building and if so we’re they ignored?

Really? So after 15 years in office, this is the best excuse that you can come up with? If our public servants can’t even cook to sustain themselves or rest comfortably without having to use a pail to catch rain water while it pours into the facility, how can they effectively do their job and serve the community?

Fir your information the police ofgicers have bern complaining for many years but the government priority is simply about fooling people for votes and loyalty.

We as Dominican’s are the laughing stuck of the Caribbean , those pictures are NOT fake news, it is real, and deplorable, no one should work under that condition , when La plain is given a millions dollars for dasheen housing according to Skerro , galvanize, cements, excreta are being given to pte Michel, gallon , Scotts head , and Soufriere constituencies for votes , and the police stations around the Island are in disrepair ,I beg to ask where is the money going ? Apartment buildings in New York, new jersey,, Dubie Morne Daniel , he refuse to give public servant a raise.

  35. March 14, 2017

If those pictures depicted here are actually correct then it really goes to show that our priorities in Dominica is really screwed up. The police is there to serve and protect under any circumstances but this is ridiculous. Why should they have to live and work in these conditions when there is monies all over the country to do all sorts of things. Our police officers nurses and teachers deserve better. We continue to settle for mediocrity in all aspects of our society and so it is no accident we are where we are today. The police needs to demonstrate a certain level of power and stand for and on principles. Your work is vital to the country’s security and survival. You need to and ought to demand more from the powers that be. You command more respect than you are settling for and it is time that you let your collective voices be heard by all. We all need your services so I am lending my support to you as you call for better working conditions and a pay raise.

But what is wrong with Dominica these days? I mean since when a police station could be in such terrible and deplorable condition and none of the officers are bold enough to make a report? I mean they have to hide behind a source? If this right here does not speak of the fear that dominates everyone in Dominica tell me what is. When police afraid of letting their concerns known to Skerrit, how can they even question him about Monfared and other allegations surrounding his name? Dominica finish man
