President of Dominica, His Excellency Charles Savarin has cancelled the customary President’s Independence Reception normally held on November 3 annually.

This as the country continues to grapple with the aftermath of Tropical Storm Erika.

“Considering the significant loss of lives and severe infrastructural damage suffered as a result of the flooding and landslides caused by the heavy rains of Tropical Storm Erika, His Excellency the President has taken the decision to cancel the customary President’s Independence Reception held annually on November 3rd,” a release from the office of the President reads.

It continued, “His Excellency the President takes this opportunity to call on all Dominicans at home and abroad to continue to concentrate their efforts in helping to rebuild our beloved country, Dominica. We have all seen the graphic video footage and some of us have had the opportunity to see firsthand from the air and/or on the ground, the magnitude of the destruction caused by Tropical Strom Erika. The task of reconstruction is great and the impact will be felt in all sectors for some time. We must therefore, not falter in our own efforts at recovery and reconstruction, recognizing that we will need the continued support of our overseas nationals, our OECS and CARICOM brothers and sisters and the international community.”

The President expressed sympathies those all who who lost loved ones, were injured and who have lost home and property during the storm.

He also expressed gratitude to all those who came to the assistance of Dominica.

“His Excellency prays that the Good Lord will continue to guide and protect us and that His light will continue to shine upon all of us,” the statement said.

This time the very fabric of Society is shred to bits, our Independence! By years end, is Dominica going to be a Bono- Fide Republic of Alba with a full blown DICTATOR at the helm?
Dominicans that’s the questions we must all ask. if the answer is A Resounding NO!
THEN WE RISE UP AND BE HEARD!
BE COUNTED! BE OF ONE ACCORD!
NO MORE OF THIS TYRANNY RULE.

TAKE BACK YOUR INDEPENDENT SPIRIT. TAKE BACK YOUR POWER!

One position allowed him to call for disruption and confusion; This position is now allowing him to call for togetherness. Wonder what his next position will allow him to do? Ask for political asylum?   It’s a terrible thing when we forget our past.

    September 29, 2015

This is a wise decision on the part of the President.
Whenever I consider the devastation which TS Erika caused, I view Dominica as still in mourning for some time.
Compassion for all those who lost so much, primarily their loved ones.
Remembrance for those who lost their lives during the storm. RIP.
Consideration for those who are injured. May they recover from their injuries. God be with you and heal you.
This is no time for all these celebrations and especially that Dominica is receiving help from generous donors worldwide.
We pray, with the help of God that next year, at least, Dominica will return to a certain degree of normalcy and the celebrations which were canceled this year will resume then.
Life is full of trials and tribulations of every sort.
Let us pray for Dominica and especially nationals who have been so affected by this disaster.
God’s love, blessing, peace and unity

Let us also pray for all government officials.

At especially a time as this, their task and decisions are not easy ones.

      Be patient with them.

      God bless them all!

Not only should the president cancel the party but he should cancel the entire DLP government and replace it with a government that is committed to see a good government.

Dominica needs a new start because Skerrit has infected every single thing and institution that one made us look good as a nation.

Has anyone ever heard the testimony of the church as bad as it is during the reign of Skerrit? Never!
Justice is gone, sports -gone, village council-gone, the police- gone! What have we not lost under Skerrit? Even the two spiritual advisors have been gone.

It’s time to rebuild a new Dominica people and I hope we succeed for goodness sake

If Passing Cloud was President or Prime Minister he would take all the relief funds sent to rebuild Dominica by hard working tax payers of friendly countries to fete. He proposes a Dominica Paro Government at all cost. Is like you walking in town and a paro ask you for a dollar to buy bread to eat, but instead the paro buys cocaine to entertain his high. Tell me how you will feel when the Paro does that? Would you give him again? So Passing Cloud Government would take the relief funds and paro it in WCMF, GH relief concert, President Party, Independence fete, etc. WCMF not accustom to make profit and when he finish fete there will be no money to build bridges, roads, schools, etc. The donor countries would be blue vex because Passing Cloud paro their money on fete and more fete. They now will treat Passing Cloud government like the paro it is.

What else Mr. Savarin? Should you cancel half of your big salary and donate it to the people of the west coast?

      September 29, 2015

You should donate half yours to the people of the east!! You people always quick to suggest to someone else what you wouldn’t do yourselves….

The first duty of the new cabinet would be to replace Charles Savarin as president with a genuine servant of Dominica and will uphold the rule of law. Therefore Mr. Claude Weeks would be my choice. I would leave Mr. Carbon as commissioner because I feel if placed in the right atmosphere he will uphold justice.

As for Mr. Skerrit, he should be exiled and never contest an election again. I did not place the rest of politicians of both DLP and UWP just for the sake of a peaceful Dominica.

In a perfect world, I would sure like to see a humble servant like Lennox Linton as PM but Labor has made him look like an old devil. I would also like to see Dr. Fontaine in Finance but like Linton he too has been tinted. I would prefer to see them come via an election along with Isaac Baptist, Joseph Isaac, Lugay, and really all the rest of team Dominica because they are truly a good team that would help Dominica.

I didn’t include the rest of the DLP candidates because they helped destroy…

Seriously, the president is cancelling independence celebration. That to me is a disgrace! Independence from England is one of the greatest things that this country has an achieved. By making such a cancellation, we are showing that we DO NOT have pride for our country. I have never heard or seen any other country cancelling their independence celebration because of any disaster. It is like currently, life has just stopped in Dominica. I honestly think that this does not look good for us as Dominicans and further more to show the rest of the world. The country looks weak by doing this and shows what that we are not showing our pride to as an independent nation. In addition we are not moving on.

Independence from England? Only in words and on paper. Dominica has never been independent in the true sense of the word. What is there to genuinely celebrate especially after TS Erika?

  13. The New Wine Concept
    September 29, 2015

That’s right thing to do. This tradition should have been cancelled the same year Charles Savarin was made president as a sign of respect to Dominica.

Concerning helping to rebuild Dominica, I am for that 100%. The question however is, do we want to rebuild the same Dominica that was already destroyed before Erica? In fact the holy bible tells us that we cannot put “New wine in Old bottles… Matt. 9:17

To do so we must rebuild on principles and policies that will genuinely glorify God, and thus we need men and women that are committed to that cause. Therefore I humbly suggest erecting a new government as follows:

Joshua Francis-PM, Finace & Security; Kenneth Darroux- deputy and minister of health, housing and environ; Petter Saint Jean (for the sake of by-partisanship)- Education, sports and youth, Ronald Charles-Legal Affairs & tourism, Roselyn Paul-Community & gender; Ezekel Bazil- Agriculture, Isaac Baptist- Communication, works and information, Vernice Belony: speaker

Be careful what you state for you are in it.
Quoting from Matthew 9:17, you should consider it does not only refer to one person but everyone in general. In this case, especially in the eyes of God, who is better than whom? Then all Dominican people, no exception you, should be totally wiped out clean.

They shouldn’t be cancelling all those activities.theres a major difference in viewing something online where you see pictures of the destruction and experiencing it first hand.We need persons on the ground to associate with the level of damage.that will influence them more to give, find innovate ways to generate income and encourage their friends to donate
