Re-elected President of the Dominica Guadeloupe Association (DGA), Maymont Paul, wants to see greater unity among Dominicans living in the French island.
Paul was given another mandate as president when the association voted for a new executive on Saturday.
“The greatest need for Dominicans in Guadeloupe is to unite together and to understand each other by educating ourselves as to who we are and to integrate ourselves into the movements of people living in Guadeloupe,” he said after his re-election.
Paul said his objectives for the new term are are to continue the work that was started, especially with a wheelchair program for Dominica, to reorganize Dominica’s cultural heritage in Guadeloupe, including bringing cricket into the schools in the French island.
He also said he aims to see the association move forward. “I believe that the people have seen what we have done, as my desire was to see that the Association move forward … it was always my intention to meet with different persons and with other groups to build the Association, and I have done it. I had no doubt in what I was doing and when I realized the turnout tonight I realized that the people heard our call because they have seen what we had done over the past three years,” he said.
The Dominica Guadeloupe Association was created in 1996, when the image of Dominicans living in the French department was at its lowest.
According to Augustus Casimir, vice president-elect of the association, it took years to bring respectability to the Dominican community. He said this was done through sensitization programs and making representation alongside the Honorary Consul in making residents of Guadeloupe know that they should not blame Dominicans for every illicit act committed in the country.
Other members of the committee are, Susan Pierre-Louis Secretary, and Kimra Jno. Jules, Vice Secretary. Former Vice President Didier Williams is now the treasurer, with Ivinia Remy as his assistant. Elford John and Peterson Sylvester will continue to serve as committee members. The new public relations officer is Elford Xavier.
Before the DGA existed there was a committee called, Association for the Defense of Immigrants which was headed by Margaret Paul.
The Dominica Guadeloupe Association office is located at 29 Rue Delgres, in Pointe a Pitre.

Mr. Casimir (Pea Your) you still have your charming smile. I remember you at Tete Morne school. You still look good brother.
A bunch of gossipers
Shame on the person who said that he/she lived in Guadeloupe for so many years and never heard of the Association. The association has a radio program going for over 10 years now. The problem is, you hear many say that they never knew the Association was existing, but when they have a problem, they find where it is. The Association has gone to Basseterre many times, but a majority of the Dominicans there don’t turn out to the meetings. It’s very difficult to get our people to unite.
in all my years living in Guadeloupe i never knew it had an association up there, i am back in my country right now and i still didn’t know there was an association i am only hearing about this thing NOW. what a surprise.
Are you legally in Guadeloupe? lol
That association may sound good to the outside world but only the Dominicans living in Pointe a Pitre area get attended to when ever they are attended. The Dominicans living in Basse- Terre are most time never even looked at as they are considered living to far. That’s why Basse Terre should have their own association like the rounders team.
People from these colonies believe they bigger and better than Dominicans
Very sorry to say but this but that Association is of no use to Dominican in gwada! i live in gwada so i know what am talking about, From the Re-elected President down!
@alan…
can you state where the association could help but did not or could not because of maybe lack of resources, skill or political influence.
Your experience or insight could help the association
I was saying the samething, and I deceided that this situation must change! So I am now part of the association. I want to do thing for dominican in guadeloupe; come and tell us what you wanted them to do and that they did not do, so that we can do for others… Allan I’m waiting for you.
Congratulation!! Keep up the good work.
