Public Service Day will be observed this year on December 5 under the theme “An Efficient Service, A Sustainable Future.”
The theme seeks to remind public officers that a well-organized and proficient workplace comprising diligent and professional employees will result in a prosperous future for the country.
The observance of Public Service Day can be described as multi-dimensional. Mainly, it focuses on highlighting and rewarding outstanding performance and behaviour of Public Officers.
Importantly, it also provides the opportunity to heighten awareness of the public sector’s role in national development and forging of greater linkages and relationships with all stakeholders.
This year several social, educational and community outreach activities such as hikes on segments of the Waitukubuli National Trail, a Talent Night, Outdoor Games and a Church Service will precede the official celebration of Public Service Day.
Monthly public relations and education activities have also been planned which aims at enhancing participation of the wider public service. These monthly activities will create the opportunity for our internal and external clients/customers, to gather pertinent information on the services that are offered in the Public Service. The actual rewarding of excellence in the Public Service dubbed as the Awards and Recognition Ceremony is scheduled for December 5, 2014.
The official launch of Public Service Day 2014 is carded for Wednesday, June 25, 2014 from 10:00am at the Fort Young Hotel.
A number of government officials and senior Public Officers are expected to deliver addresses.
An overview of Public Service Day activities and performances by Public Officers will also complete the items on the Programm
The appraisal system is a farce.. public officers are being victimize by their supervisors incompetence’s . The rewards are given to the lazy and the don’t care. Productivity is at an all time low because of low moral in the public service. 0,0,0, % is just the right incentive to get people motivated..
Let me recommend that the Establishment and Personnel Department conduct proper assessment before presenting awards. The selection process is flawed. All departments should be recognized. Some ministries do not submit any names. It is your duty as the organizers to find out why. If a Permanent Secretary is not able to find at least one good worker, that PS is not a leader.
