Religious leader calls on God to preserve Dominica from ‘angry leaders’

Thomas calls for change in minds, hearts and voices
Thomas calls for change in minds, hearts and voices

Monsignor Eustace Thomas has called on God to preserve Dominica from what he called “false and angry leaders” who he said have become enemies of Dominica.

He made the call while delivering the opening prayer at a government Diaspora Forum at the State House on Wednesday morning.

“In this time of national unity preserve us from false and angry leaders who, through their greed and lack of patriotism, have become enemies of our country as they do their utmost to cause division and civil disobedience,” he stated.

He said he was grateful that the forum will “encourage our overseas based nationals who are here for our various national celebrations to admire the progress of our country despite global financial challenges, to invest locally in priority areas and also to furnish them with relevant information on these areas that will allow them to promote Dominica and not destroy it through distorted information and false publicity.”

He prayed for “positive and meaningful change to occur, first of all in our hearts and minds and voices.”

“So we came here today after making the significant change in renaming the Melville Hall Airport to the Douglas-Charles airport, to honor two former prime minsters, Roosevelt Douglas and Pierre Charles, genuine leaders and national heroes, who sacrificed their lives for our nation and died in office,” he stated. “Yes Lord, more change will come as next week the Pont Casse to Melville Hall Highway will be given the name of another national icon and well respected regional and international figure the former president Dr. Nicholas Liverpool.”

Thomas called for Jesus’ divine atmosphere to refresh the forum while at the same time calling for the conversion of “disgruntled individuals who are committed to the vilification of innocent people and the tarnishing of our country.”

He asked for blessings on all those who came to the forum in “good faith and open minds, acknowledging the progress of our country despite dishonest media misinformation…”

He prayed that the forum be cordial, devoid of acrimony, double standards and hate.

“May all statements be impartial and apolitical so that when this unique experience will come to an end, all will be happy and privileged to say we have come, we have seen the wonderful things happening here, will enlighten those who have not yet discovered the beauty and the truth concerning good governance and will conquer those who endeavor to distort the truth, orchestrate violence and are committed to instilling fear and hate in our country,” Monsignor Thomas prayed.

I agree, I will continue to listen because it has raised the standards of discussion, analysis and debate by these religious pastors led by Pastor Rodney. I am catholic but will listen to them more than Fr. Thomas who preaches a lot of rubbish and without any sound basis.
Pastor Rodney`s programme is about the principle and the message and not the messenger, so JOY, listen next time intently and learn about values and the principle of good governance and the role of our religious leaders to lead the flock, me and you…AND THAYT POLITICIANS MUST NOT STEAL FROM THE PUBLIC PURSE AND ABUSE AND TAKE POOR IN NEED FOR GRANTED
I am disappointed in Fr. Thomas , he speaks rubbish and is disconnected and is blind politically. Fr. Thomas is NOT a role model, we Dominicans are suffering.
      We need a change………

A cult of personality arises when an individual uses mass media, propaganda, or other methods, to create an idealized, heroic, and at times, worshipful image, often through unquestioning flattery and praise. Sociologist Max Weber developed a tripartite classification of authority; the cult of personality holds parallels with what Weber defined as “charismatic authority”. A cult of personality is similar to hero worship, except that it is established by mass media and propaganda usually by the state, especially in totalitarian states.

When I read how angry the opposition spporters are with the statement of the priest, it confirms that the priest is 100% correct. Your anger proves it. We will know if God answers his prayers when the election results are announced. Would you react as angrily if a pastor with a rod who supports you had made some utterances? Please do not advocate for people to leave the church, as 99.9% of good christians support DLP, so where do you plan to go if not the church, to hell? Just asking.

I don’t believe no priest pastor or religious person should show which party they support. What a shame!!!!!!!! The church already have so much ma-le that so called priest only adding fuel to the fire and what for the bishop to talk about he keeps quiet. My mind is to write a letter to the Pope or start a petition against these men who should not be partaking in Politics so publicly. Good thing I have a mind of my own and do not need priest pastor etc to go to heaven.

  25. Shameless
    October 30, 2014

What a damn shame! Mr. Thomas (no longer reverend or monsignor for me) has brought shame on him and the institution he represents. As a past student of the PRESTIGIOUS St. Mary’s Academy ( Smartest Me Around), I was taught that the church should never get involved in politics during civics classes. While I have remained a loyal catholic, I now believe that it is time to become a Christian with no CHURCH affiliation.

I will no longer attend any church service where Mr. Thomas is the celebrant. Not because of his political beliefs but rather due to his disrespect for the moral principles of the church and its teachings. He is no different than the bishop who accepted the 500,000 pieces of silver for silence on the ills of our nation.

Had the church NOT taken the 500,000 pieces of silver they would NOT feel obligated today to support immoral, illegal and despicable activities at this stage in our political process (elections). Shane on Mr. Thomas for disrespecting the church and citizens of Dominica. But Change WILL COME!

    Assertive, NOT Aggressive!

“encourage our overseas based nationals who are here for our various national celebrations to admire the progress of our country despite global financial challenges”
Basically clerical official advises Diaspora to invest into Dominica.
Lets make small secularization of Dominica economy and look with great sobriety into making business in Dominica:
    1. a) Registering property: normally Dominica lawyers charge 3% of property value (lawyer’s fees) + 15% VAT on fees
    b) Stamp duty: 1% of property value (assurance fund) + 4% property value (Purchaser’s Stamp Duty) + 2.5% property value (Vendor’s fee) + 2.5% property value (judicial fee)
Total cost of registering property in Dominica: ca 13.3
Total cost of registering in Latin America: 6.1
Total cost of registering in OECD: 4.2.
    2. Getting credit for foreign investors is impossible: private and public credit bureaus do not exist. Local retailer do not provide any credit lines etc. Utility companies ask for extra-orbitant security deposits
    3. Contract enforcement: in order to enforce contract in Dominica, the investor has to estimate that 36% of cost of claim are transactional expenses: attorney cost ca 20% etc
It takes average 681 day in Dominica to enforce contract
    4. Dominica global ranking of making business: 97 and dropped from 94 in 2014

So why on earth investors would like invest in Dominica if business climate is bad and instead of comprehensive administrative reform and liberalization of market…everybody fighting to find out which one is off: red or blue…

    • Malgraysa
      October 31, 2014

This a valid question and it’s about time we face it square on. The fact is that nobody is obliged to invest in Dominica. There is plenty of competition for our dollar outside.

PS. What really pisses me off is officials trying to coerce Dominicans to invest in their own country when they themselves may be hoarding their millions in tax free offshore accounts.

Dominica has been known as a God fearing country from time immemorial. This is true for whatever religious denomination one wishes to associate with. Thomas is no different than Skeritt. This tatic of polarization by our supposedly leaders should not be accepted. Dominicans irrespective of your faith and christian views you should be appaled by the political speech given by Thomas disguised as a pray. The people from the disaspora who were being addressed should use this so called pray as a guage as to the direction this country is going. Instead of this divisive politcal speech Thomas should have used this opportunity to deliver a message of hope, social justice, uplifting the condition of the poor and oppressed, call for calm and moral upliftment, and finally pray for unity in the country respecting people’s political persuation.
You will notice that I did not use the word Monsignor. In my opinion if Eustace Thomas cannot as a man of God call out wrong whenever he sees it or whoever commits it he does not deserve the title. Thomas you and leaders like you are leading our beloved people astray. You may vote Labour it is your decision, but you need to repent and ask forgivenes from your flock.

I am angry when one set eat all
I am angry when a leader has amassed so much personal wealth through illegal means and bribes.
I am angry when the Dominica PM is a pathological liar and religiously attacks humble people, keeps on putting the cart before the horse, and suffers from moral malnutrition.

The PM, Linton, Austrie, Edison, the young politicians and the older politicians, the educated politicians and the less educated politicians, everybody sounds angry. Not one of them speaks with love or care or concern in their voice. All I hear is a bunch of self-serving words, all trying to out-talk the other.

You can call me stupid and dumb if you want, I don’t care. That is our mode of talk these days. If someone has a different opinion, bam!!, they stupid. Well, even the comments of DNO are angry. so while you there lambasting the priest, just think of how angry you sounding too.

What has Msgr. Thomas got on Bishop Malzaire that he allows him to go around and spew venom without hindrance?
There is no gospel of hatred. Indeed the messsage of love is so strong it is enshrined in our colloquial parlance when we say “God is love”, which comes straight from John 4:8:” He who does not love does not know God, for God is love”.
I sense a bitterness in this priest’s heart that will ultimately consume him and if he thinks he is helping Mr. Skerrit’s cause with these utterances he is mistaken for hatred is nothing but a corrosive bile that destroys everything it touches.

I think we are going to have to take a good historical look at the Catholic Church In general we are reluctant to lam bass the Church but since this Monseigneur is going on unchecked by His Bishop we accept that He is in line with the ideology .We have to go way back during the Slavery era and a very ugly picture emerges. This is an organization that was mute during slavery and never spoke against it .As a matter of fact most if not all the Churches in this region were built by slaves.Yes My Mother told me of Her Great Grandmother who showed Her a stone that was carried by one of Her Great Great Great Grandmothers to build the Roseau Cathedral.today the Pope is announcing that imbalance in society is evil but who is one of the richest Men on earth? Why are they so contradictory and why do we always accept them as Gods and never challenge their nonsense? We know of their sexual abuse of Children for hundreds of years yet we remain silent and subservient. Is there something wrong with us? Have we been psychologically kidnapped?Well Senor Thomas be an instrument of God keep misbehaving and cause the people to rise above this organization of oppression and abuse .Thank You for your work!

I believe its time to report Fr. Thomas and the Bishop to the Pope. Here it is openly a priest is campaigning making all kinds of condemning statements about individuals and the Bishop dont pull him up and disciplines him. Ha but Fr.Reggie with no evidence no confession he could ask him to take administrative leave and when he did not get satisfaction he sent his other accusation straight to ROME. My Dear Bishop we all say we serve God in truth where is your truth, here is an opportunity to show how concern you are about the moral values of the church and you keep turning a blind eye with the continuous degrading of what the church stands for by Fr. Good lord… This is a prayer or a speech .. It’s a indeed a very political speech. Such are the statement that bring Dominica down to the drain…. Religious leaders must always do the right thing n speak justice n truth. Religious leaders must never take sides but the side of God…. What was going on with the person saying the prayer… God is always on the side of justice and right…
God never segregates, bring down or castigate. God is not corrupt….
it’s like a huge labour army where those on the government side- sad but true- support anything and are singing for their supper….
Visiting Dominican must challenge the government to do the right n be firm n fear…Not an occasion for statement called a prayer to be heard……… They should have said the Lord’s prayer instead……
Significant change is needed . Religious leaders must respect each n every Dominican n not show favoritism. Truth is to many of these religious folks are singing for their supper…… Dominica needs fearless religious leaders who would challenge the government n opposition….
By the way, prayer is the lifting up of the heart, soul, and Mind to God…it communicating with God. It’s always edifying…….
How would the catholics interpret such a prayer?
Wow, God help Gen Dominique,, n this place where politicians priest pastors n congregations r a happppppppppppppy family for political matters but hardly matters of God…….dat laughable..

    October 29, 2014

My brothers and sisters, we in Dominica are struggling for good governance, against corruption, for Free and Fair elections, for a better standard of living, for justice, for equality, not only against Skerritt’s DLP in Gov’t, but against a system, institutions, comprising several players.

Mental Slavery persists. Priests, corrupt politicians, professionals aid and abet despots to rule the people. Dominica is no exception.

A senior clergy man, a Monsignor, stoops so low and consistently displays his love for those involved in all kinds of acts deemed to be on becoming of any Political leader, politician or Govt.?

Which Bible does that priest read from? Not the one that condemns stealing, lying, injustices to fellowmen?

But from time immemorial, history has taught us that the hierachy of the churches, have been on the side of the rich man, the plantation owners, the colonial masters, the haves. We are witnessing the same attitudes today of some of our men-of-cloth in Dominica. They are willing, at every occasion, and are bold about it, to revere Massa.

When will that spokesman ever condemn corrupt practices by the regime? He cares not of his own credibility. Could you say that you are a priest following in the footsteps of Jesus Christ. Whose fools are we?

We are not afraid of the shaking of your siltan (robe). Many are called. but few are chosen.

    • The Facts
      October 29, 2014

Your views do not tell the correct story. You have stooped low to debase what the Monsignor stated. Do not distort his words to suit your mentality.
The Bible states, you shall not judge others. Therefore, who are you trying to deceive?
What type of history have you been reading? I resided in D/ca and at no time have I experienced what you are stating about the Hierarchy of the Catholic Church. Many of the poor people whom you describe could vouch for that. You have it all wrong.
Dominica’s standard of living is far better today than it was in those previous years.
Do you think you will be called and chosen? If only you knew God you would not make such a statement. Be careful with your words that as you condemn others you do not condemn yourself.

I am too afraid that when I get there is guys like this priest Thomas, bJ, Peter Augustine giving direction.Besides that it have GPS and Google map so I will find my own way papa. Better yet the money that they want me to put in their collection basket I will keep it to buy gas and still have enough to buy a few gifts for god , Jesus and Mary. Maybe a nice little wob dwiyet for Mary and a few Kubuli Beers and some bwa bandais rum for the banquet in heaven.

How blatant can this man Thomas be- this man is arrogant and pompous. If my GPS get me to heaven before those wicked hypocrites I will make sure that Hitler and Idi Amin escort them back down the hill so they can go work in the steel mill.

I wondered why our Religious Leaders were so quiet whilst the crux of the issues affecting us are side tracked whilst our politicians take out me’pwe!!! We have digressed from discussing what the benefits of voting for a particular party are- but instead the debate has generated into mud slinging and very disturbing accusations of rape, plagiarism, who pays for whose ticket when they travel whilst we have some life changing issues which would interest us as a Nation. By the way I believe that if Monsignor Thomas was a politician we would be blessed. Thank you Monsignor Thomas. God bless you. Let us pray.

You must remember that a Christian would be one who walks with the bible in one hand and the news paper in the order. or how else will he be able to apply the realities of the world with the Gospel.

, you are a politician, playing politics, in the church when you should be preaching the word, of God to your congregation. I shall refrain from dealing with you too harshly, and that is because I think I know one of your brothers, we are acquainted; sort of friends you know; except if I am wrong I think he is in Dominica at the moment (but I doh saying anything eh, I doh saying what him doing dere as far as him job is concern). When he return to Canada, and I go to visit, I want him to cook for me again, and we do the other thing that Dominicans do when we are eating and talking. So just knowing him, and not wanting to offend him, that saved you from my wrath!

Eustas, Dominica is in a very bad state right now, poverty has overwhelm the country, as a result of the incompetents of the leaders who are in control of the country, and I am not referring to anybody in the opposition, who aspire as leaders intending to change the status quo; because of this ravaging poverty in the country. Crime has become the order of the day, crime has taken precedence over everything else.

When there are no jobs in a country, people become frustrated, and take out their frustrations on society by robbing and stealing from people in the streets, and in their homes, they murder people to get what they need to survive that should concern you, that should concern every Dominican with a small amount of commonsense. Those of us who believe in God knows fully well that God allows things to happen, and unless we the people do something to bring about some significant change to our personal life, and our country, one can call on God for the rest of their life nothing will change in Dominica.

    You know why?

Here is the answer found in the book of Ephesians 6:12. “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities , against, powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world against spiritual wickedness in high place.” That is the situation we are dealing with in our country right now. People are victimized everyday by the powers that be in government in Dominica!

Your duty as a servant of God, if you are; is to preach the word of from the Bible to the people whom you are their servant, according to the scripture in the Book of Matthew, chapter 23 when you stand on the pulpit it must be the word preached or teach (taught) to your congreation, anything less than that God will not hear you! You are supporting a political party which holds the nation hostage, I mean you as an individual have the right and authority to support any government, any politician of your choice, that is between you and whichever god you serve.

Nevertheless, to ” called on God to preserve Dominica from what he called false and angry leaders who he said have become enemies of Dominica.” To me those are words of war emanating from a hypocrite, who professed to be a follower or disciple of Jesus!

The true enemies of Dominica, are those who have held on to power in Dominica by questionable means, and have destroyed the economy of Dominica in the process. Where is your concision man the god pray to need to issue one to you. As long as you support the labor party in power right now God Jehovah through his Son Jesus will not hear your payers !

You see, it is the behavior of people like Eustas, which cause people like you to think in the way that you are thinking. In the first place most people believe that Religion, and Christianity is one of the same, and that’s what led to the belief that Religion was set up to divide Black people.

Be reminded that anything which has a large following, is classified as a religion! Hence we arrived at the term “religiously.” If I have a place of entertainment, you know like a pack dance hall every Saturday night, packed with people in attendance, that could be classified as a religion for some people. Christianity on the other hand is Love of God, to those of us who have accepted Jesus Christ as our Lord, and Savior the one who lay his life down for our sin; that is one of the major differences.

One does not have to attend any particular denomination to be a Christian, because in Jesus day on earth as a man, though he was God in human flesh. The places where they congregated even in the one where Jesus read the word, and closed the book without reputing the written word of God, nor refuting it, did not have a domination name attached to it.

Even in the New Testament, when people such Paul reference and Identify a Church, he would refer to them based on their location. I am from Wesley, if Paul made reference to a Church in Wesley, he would simply say “the Church in Wesley.”

This denominational thing came into existence when the Roman Catholic decided to lie, and say Peter was the first Pope: all due to that part of Scripture in Matthew 16:18 where Jesus said “And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my Church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” Remember, a building is not a Church, the people who congregates to worship and give praises to God and Jesus, is the Church. When Jesus made the comment to Peter, it was a parable which I will not get into because I am not writing a book here. I will simply say this Peter was a man in human flesh so no one could build a building him, not unless they killed him and buried him under the Church building.

Now as for so many different denominations, it was compounded when the Martin Luther King, broke away from the Roman Catholic system, in order to preach the word of God, then comes the Church of England, and the rest is history, and by the way the Martin Luther King I spoke about is not the assassinated King of America. The multitude of denominational names is what brings all the confusion into it. God said he is not the author of confusion, if you are in America, and are listening to the news coming out of Rome you see the confusion taking Place in their church, from accepting homosexuality, which the Bible condemns, today some pope said god does not have a magic wand. Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahah.

Have faith in God and not in man they will disappoint you every time, Jesus said where two or three are gathered in his name he said he is in the midst of them, one do not have to go into a place of confusion and lies to establish a relationship with God.

So what better do you expect from this man Thomas!

By their fruits you shall know them. The fruits of division, hate and violence which Eustace Thomas has displayed and continues to display has judged him. Eustace Thomas preached violence against Labour Party supporters, to the extent that he was admonishing young people to disown their elderly parents just because of their support for PJ. Do you know about Eustace Thomas’ past? If you don’t then go find out and you’ll understand the nature of this man, a man who harbours hatred in his heart and I’m not judging him, his fruits are.

Pope Francis condemned corruption claiming it was a worse evil than sin, but compared it to bad breath, ‘someone who has it hardly ever realises it’.

He said: ‘The scandalous accumulation of global wealth is possible because of the connivance of those with strong powers who are responsible for public affairs. The corrupt one does not perceive his own corruption. It is a little like what happens with bad breath: someone who has it hardly ever realises it; other people notice and have to tell him’
‘Corruption is an evil greater than sin. More than forgiveness, this evil needs to be cured.

Is that priest Thomas ( not Father) a DLP candidate in one of the 21 constituencies? If you tell me no then I am very disappointed. Well— he is certainly not preaching liberation theology. He is making a mockery of himself and his church. What a shame- where is Bishop Bogart ? Where are the church leaders to reign in this loose one?

Very timely Monsignor Thomas! What a great message. We have many instigators of hate and division attempting to disguise themselves as saints by constantly preaching truth and righteousness, meanwhile, their actions contradict their claim. We shall continue to defeat them. Monsignor Thomas, thank you sir and continue to do the work of the Almighty. Your visit and prayers while I was incapacitated at the PMH have contributed to my remarkable recovery today. My profound gratitude to you. Stand firm for the Messiah. I love you!

Thomas is not a religious leader; he is simply a Catholic Priest. Being ordained a Priest does not make one a leader. Who is Thomas leading? And to where is he leading? This is a stressed-out Abbot who thinks he should be further up the hierarchical ladder. He puts on his peacock stride, folds his lips like a “kata”, speaks with a fag’s accent, and wants to pontificate on every subject. He vents his frustration with life from the pulpit, especially when his audience includes non-Catholics. This Priest seem to have a problem with almost everyone and everything. The only way to silence this man is to make him a Bishop. This is his life’s dream. But it seems those in ecclesiastical governance do not trust him. After all, he is from Vielle Casse; home of Skerrit.

Mr. Thomas must understand that when he speaks like this he calls into question the reputation of the church he serves.
