Report: Women driving spurs premarital sex

A report given to a high-level advisory group in Saudi Arabia claims that allowing women in the kingdom to drive could encourage premarital sex, a rights activist said yesterday.

The ultraconservative stance suggests increasing pressure on King Abdullah to retain the kingdom’s male-only driving rules despite international criticism.

Rights activist Waleed Abu Alkhair said the document by a well-known academic was sent to the all-male Shura Council, which advises the monarchy. The report by Kamal Subhi claims that allowing women to drive will threaten the country’s traditions of virgin brides, he said. The suggestion is that driving will allow greater mixing of genders and could promote sex.

This is one more example of how women are oppressed in Saudi Arabia and other countries under the shadw of Isalm.

The story of the woman sentensed to ten lashes for driving a car is cruel beyond words. In a land where women are treated as objcts to be owned, sold, and bought it seems the men have almost a pathological fear of the fair sex. The only way they can co-exist with them is to keep them down.

There is absolutely no scientific evidence that driving a car is going to encourage pre-marital sex. Any risks that would arise from young men and women being in a car together can be countered by proper teaching at home and reasonable supervision. It should be remembered that any risk would have to come from the men. These are men who are the fruits and products of Islam. Perhaps the authorities could focus more on the boys and young men. They need to be taught to respect women and stop using them as sex objects.

Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. Pentecostal Evangelist.

now i think that from the very moment women were allowed the right to drive the world turned sour. when u look at it any thing women touch ever since the days of adam and eve they’ve missed up. now i’m not on of those who think they should not be allowed rights but until they can show responsibility with those rights they should not have them

A society as Saudi Arabia, governed by men, continues to discriminate against women and keep them down and harnessed. Those men have all the rights and freedom but not the women. This is truly a society which needs to be transformed.
It is nonsense to think that if women drove a vehicle as a car that they are the cause of pre-marital sex or will encourage it. What has driving a car to do with it? The women want their independence and they should get. Some years in the future, they will get it, be it the future generation. Nothing lasts forever.
Saudi Arabia men and other such men in the Muslim world are jealous people. It is not that they are protecting the women. I do not even think that there is one bit of love in their hearts, treating women as if they are their property. This is not love.

True saying…tell me about it, our people know nothing about their African culture and history. All they know is to “burst” a lime, cook good food, worship the white god the white man gave them and dress/dance belle every Creole season. http://www.africankingdoms.

I thought that you were away somewhere else in the world.
What African culture? We are not full-fledged African and far from it. Born in DA, in the West Indies and Caribbean of also mixed heritage how could we ever be Africans in the full sense of it?
The majority of us, if not all of us are of two different, mixed heritage. We should study the White culture of France or Great Britain wherever our other ancestors originated from. Ever thought of that?
What nonsense are you stating in this day and age that we worship the white man, white God? I would not waste my time further.

It is permissible in Islamic law for a woman to drive as the women in the time of the prophet Muhammad used to ride horses and fight in battles.

The religious clerics in Saudi Arabia had to rule for either the women are given permission to drive which is a permissibility or avoiding the greater harm which opens the doors to fornication and adultery which is strictly forbidden in Islamic law. Imagine a sister car breaks down in the middle of the desert which is how many square miles, some male foreigner comes along pretending to want to help her, he ends up raping her or they end up in illicit sexual relations. This is very dangerous to the woman in their view thus it is a protection for their honor and chastity. Unfortunately, many women in the west can have sex with Tom, Dick and Harry, no shame no morals. When the women are destroyed in this way the family crumbles. One has to remember that if a woman commits fornication in Saudi Society, no one wants to marry her, it’s a very shameful thing. No one marries from her household.

In conclusion, knowing the nature of the Saudi Society, it is in the best interest of the women to prevent them from driving.

All that you’re saying is that if Saudi society changed only whether it lets women drive AND NOTHING else, it would cause more problems than it would solve. The road to empowerment is a difficult one, and the oppressors will fight it every step of the way. Obviously Saudi society has serious issues with how it treats women beyond the driving issue. Women apparently only have value there if they are virgins, yet if men are not virgins this does not affect THEIR status. And can Saudis think of no better way to protect women from rape than keeping them under lock and key? Adult women must be empowered to make their own choices as to what is in their “best interest.”

@MID: Look at the consequences they have made in the west…so difficult to find a chaste girl at 16. Look at the moral depravity in Dominica.

Also, the men as well are punished if found in fornication.

      • Man in Dominica
        December 6, 2011

@Muslim: What does that have to do with oppressing women? Even if we assume that a woman’s chastity is something the law should be concerned with (which I don’t think it is), one could find just as much justification for restricting the rights of men to accomplish that. Don’t allow men to go around unsupervised, etc. Neither men nor women should be controlled like that, but it is only sexist bias that thinks it’s better to treat women that way, and on a mere pretense of fighting “moral depravity.” Oppressing women is morally depraved. The social ills of fornication are unwanted pregnancies and STDs, and it is no accident that worldwide these problems decrease with education and wealth.

@lololl…. i’m not saying women should be treated as animals and given rewards in return *um a woman raised me* but in life we all get rewarded when our efforts are appreciated and to honest unless u are a 90’s baby… u’d know in dominica a woman driving was ‘taboo’… even other women frowned upon that… and so some women who drove were labelled ‘mal norm’… so men at the time saw teaching there woman to drive is a great way of rewarding her and showing appreciation… which most women were always excited about so much so… lots of them paid “extra services” to get the licenses *wink* *wink*

@ anon.. that could be… but trust me.. most men can vouch on that…. at the time like the early 90’s…. most men taught there women to drive out of love and compassion… a genuine show of appreciation….

@anonymous… i’m sorry but this is just a harsh reality of the world… which dominica is not excluded from… yes women have to work twice as hard as men to get due recognition.. not everywhere but lots of organisations… but let’s not get things tangled here… to think the new found independence to drive wouldn’t increase promiscuity and infidelity is um um “dumb thinking”

Here we are in our lil Dominica that is not even really ours they brought us here but yet we complaining about ancient countries belief, especially knowing that we are such a young country. I wonder if we know, that if we were not brought here we would have the same belief as they do. While we are saying they are wrong so they to saying we are so wrong and foolish. Who is really wrong or right? The white man stole us enslave us gave us his teaching and yet still we fighting for him. I am not saying that the muslims are right either but rather that we must try to understand their point of view. They follow a religious background to is not something they just come out with out of the blue. The funny thing in life is we always think what we know is right but yet still if it so perfect then we shouldn’t have any issues but yet still we suffer. I don’t mean to sound dumb but sometimes it’s best certian things stay hidden from us to protect us.

Problem isn’t merely a different religious point of view; the problem is the law there decides that women HAVE TO follow that religious point of view. It’s wrong to give police the power to jail someone because they don’t observe what should be an act of religious faith and devotion. Turns people into hypocrites, who only do the “right” thing to avoid gong to jail, not because they actually believe in it. If a woman decided for herself to follow a religion that says she should not drive, I’d think it was silly but that’s her right. And it should be her right to say instead “i don’t believe in that, give me my damn car keys.”

“Though some women don’t like it”. This is slavery to tell a woman she can not drive. It was the way of life to keep certain colours of skin from owning property. Maybe someone shouldn’t have fought for that right. Maybe we should just have said it is a way of life.

      • Man in Dominica

The majority doesn’t have the right to decide an individual has no rights. That’s the only thing that makes them “rights”–they can’t be voted away by a majority that wants to keep you down. So while we should in theory respect cultural differences, we should only respect it when its something individuals choose for themselves, not when they try to choose how someone else lives.

Sounds like you’re just not that great of a catch. Don’t blame women’s “independence” on why they don’t want to get with you. And if the only reason why a woman is in a relationship is because she needs that man to drive her around, that’s definitely not a relationship worth continung. Fact is, when a woman’s capabilities increase, her standards in men increase too. My wife wouldn’t have been interested in me if I wasn’t also college educated and vice versa. So either improve yourself or stop complaining that some women are out of your league.

What happens every time men do not honor their marital vows and are not sincere, the latter which also pertains to single men? Are you insinuating that the family fabric did not deteriorate when men did not, of all, live up to their commitment? They made a promise, a vow. Have you forgotten that?
