Retired public officers to be recognized

Some 80 retired public officers will be recognized for services rendered to Dominica at an awards and recognition ceremony on Friday evening at the Arawak House of Culture.

The public officers have served the island over a period spanning 30 to 40 years.

The event forms part of National Public Service Day 2012 which is being held under the theme, “Our Public Service: Transforming, Modernizing, Positively Changing!”

In addition, awards will bestowed on various serving Public Officers for extraordinary performance in the execution of their duties.

One award will be bestowed per category as follows:

•    Senior Managment Award
•    Middle Manager of the year
•    Junior Officer of the year
•    Team Award
•    Minister for the Public Service Awards
•    Jerry Augustine Award to be bestowed on exceptional Officer Attendant/Messenger

The observance of Public Service Day is being described an opportunity to heighten awareness of the public sector’s role in the country’s national development and to forge greater linkages and relationships with stakeholders.

    And can it be…

My Fellow Dominicans, I want to inform you that in recognition of Public Service Day, government met in emergency session and has decided to bestow the “Lazarus Award” on our Dear Minister for Public Service.

As you know, the biblical Lazarus was resurrected by Jesus himself. In our own context, we decided to give the award to the minister or public officer who best resurrected his/her career. We hope to make this an annual event. The citation reads thus:

    “The Lazarus Award

Whereas you have shown unfailing loyalty to the Public Service; whereas you have championed the cause of “equal educational opportunities” for public servants and all nationals alike; whereas you presided over the compatible union between our parties; whereas your great oratory skills are well known and you can handle yourself so expertly at press conferences; whereas you are endearingly referred to as the “two tongue man” by a local calypsonian; whereas you have earned your stripes and made us all proud by donning your red garb and calling for the boycott of a local business; whereas you are such an honourable, enterprising and decent gentleman; whereas you been a trailblazer for so many other politicians and public servants; whereas you have now become a genuine National Treasure, now therefore, in recognition of Public Service Day, we are honoured and humbled to bestow the Lazarus Award upon you.”

    Thank you

DNO, can you give us the actual number of Public Officers who are to be honoured. There is no number as “some 80”.

    Awaiting your response.

I thought the Awards were genuine until I heard the name of Ossie Walsh on DBS getting the Senior Management Award, then I knew it was pure politics, since there are many other well deserving non-alligned public officers

As usual typical Dominican always there to spread rumors and say things that are not true. Wait for the facts before blowing your hot air, thats why we will always have drama because of people like you. hope you realized its not a prize giving affair to jump at every story and spin it to suit you. Now wait for the announcements and eat your humble pie” “SMFH”.DAM! DOMINICAN!
