Road from Grand Bay to Tete Morne alarming residents say

Residents from the Grand Bay area are complaining that the state of the road from Berricoa in that community to Tete Morne is alarming.

They claim they have been given promises by the government for years to have the road repaired but nothing has changed and it remains the same.

“We are tax payers and we are appealing to the  government to do something before all our vehicles go to pieces,” one resident told Dominica News Online via email.

Below are some photos sent to DNO showing the condition of the road.

The road between Grand Bay and Tete Morne is indeed a disaster! Slowly but surely, piece by piece the road get fixed.
Roads are communication, without road we are going nowhere or definitely not on time.
Unfortunately some of the road “constructors’ do not have enough professionalism to understand the meaning of the need of a road!
the distance that some of the “constructors” have to renew take definitely too much time. Especially now as the schools restarted!Between Tete Morne and Montine is a disaster, because the smart “constructor” didn’t use his brain, and start to remove the road,no Bus, no ambulance and important vehicles can’t pass the small piece of road. And when they finished pieces of road to throw all concrete bags in the nature…..I will give the advice to the Government and councils, watch who you give contracts……they fool you!

Am happy to see that Tete Morne is getting some form of attention this road has not change for about 50 years.During community day of service villagers would clean and patch pot holes, but to be honest with u it’s the worst road that I have driven on.Good payback for being a labour stronghold.

The worst part of this saga is that the police even have the guts to come around saying they are inspecting vehicles. They even have more guts to charge drivers from Tetemorne for bald tires. Some people just have NO CONSIDERATION for their fellow human beings. Imagine paying driver’s licence, vehicle licence, car insurance for NOTHING.

I’m from Tete Morne and I live there and I’m telling you the worse set of political idiots on the face of the earth are from Tete Morne. All the labor party give them every 5 years are caps, waist bags and red T shirts and they satisfy for the next five years. Tete Morne is the place where the labor got 100% votes in the last election and I can put my neck on the line if an election were to be called tomorrow the Tete Morne people voting the Labor 100% (party except me)with the condition of the road in that state. The pal rep up there every week, up to this evening I passed her going down from Tete Morne. The PM passed on the road recently so he knows about it. Just that they know the majority of Tete Morne are dummies, majority are not complaining so what’s the big deal. The road just needs total resurfacing. ASAP!!!

Actually, MONTINE people are Laborites and TeteMorne people are all Freedomites. Always have been this way. Somebody need to let out the air from Justina’s tires or puncture them with nails. Let us see how much she’d like to get stuck up there.

Thank you for speaking out, because it seems that we Dominicans just have to accept the fact that when driving we have to shift from pothole to pothole. The government just does not see proper roads as important to the economic life of the country. Improve infrastructural is a positive indicator of the improvement in the quality of life in any country.

it hurts to see so much money being spent making west coast and other roads pretty with walls and lights and reflectors and tetemorne we dont even have a road, all we have is holes. And is not to say is recently, this is years and years and years.say tete morne and everyone asks you if they fix the road yet. Embarassing.

People this is no joke~ the photos dont even come close to showing how bad the road is.You would need video and audio for that!I have to grin i n pain when I use my car to see my family up there, sometimes I take a bus. Two small sections (the steepest parts) were repaired but the rest of the road was neglected, and now the whole road has become the drain. This is a rainy and cold village, similar to Laudat, so do the math. Its is treated like a dead end. Newsflash. Its a village. THe people are VERY unassuming and are paying for this,..bad roads, water problems.. they need to be more assertive. Parl Rep you can run but you cannot hide!

@@Tiny. GrandBay wi tiny! what i hearing dere na, you don’t know GrandBay?? Ok, case closed! You need to get out at least a little, you are also alone in thinking 90% of D/a is shanty town, that’s a stupid thing to say if you ever been to D/a. There are no shanty towns in Dominica.

Sorry visitor from outta space, you been overseas too long, drop by some time and someone muss bring you GrandBay, gotta go there you’ll see for yourself. Unfortunately crime can be high and sporadic at times yeh, but so is it on the rise in other parts including where you from and where you now live.

A grand bay(a must see), lots of well build homes, hospital, highschool, comm. center, no shantys, beautiful wooden homes, you name it; With Lalay, the older part, as the main shopping area, noisy, never sleeps, hence the name South City given to it in the 70’s, medium income – except the big money; lol(I shall not mention culture here) champion of our independence: it’s Dominica’s 3rd town. You got to go there some time, it’ll blow you away how GrandBay is built – ‘without Gov’t support’ too. So get out a liittle, Dominica IS beautiful.

I hope the people of Grandbay will remember these events during elcetion time that are curently affecting the area. We seem to have selective memory when election comes around and politicians come around with a “one day meal” to give us from the trunk of their car.
But as we are seeing today, these bad representation is not isolated only to Grandbay but most communities in Dominica. The thing is most politicians in Dominica do not fight for their positions, it just falls in their lap, so once elected there is no desire to do anything to elevate the “Peoples” standard of living.
    I love Dominica so much.

The type of things that would happen during community day of service are NO LONGER happening. HAVE YOU ALL PLANTED ENOUGH FLOWERS YET – I guess not so PM ignoring you all.

The only thing I am saying is I remember the late Pierre Charles and L’echelle these guys were the real LABOUR PARTY people in Grand Bay. Their Community building efforts established the roots for the REAL LABOUR party in Grand Bay.

The LABOUR PARTY has been HIJACKED by a bunch of greedy people – people who were PAID TO “JOIN”. The people with no community involvement and I mean hands on, these are the people who are out there getting elected and building their wealth. There are enough grassroots people, who are intelligent enough, who have community building at heart and putting the effort these are the people who should get elected. I can name a few in Grand Bay.

I am grossly disappointed, I think the parl. rep.. she could have made a difference because you have the support of Grand Bay people – they are the ones VOTING YOU IN – and she just sat there and drank the same tainted “cool”-aid and becoming as passive and dormant as anything.

Even though Grand Bay is neglected, the people will still blindly vote for any person DLP send. Some fellas from GB was seen on MARPIN begging for jobs to patch some holes. They were vex people from a nearby village were given the job in their community.

Unemployment has reached crisis stage in GB. Once a productive village, agriculture – bananas, and non-banana crops, poverty is on the rise. The standard of living of most GB villagers are declining daily. GB is losing its roots, its resistance to corruption, its advocacy against Massa control.

Many of GB residents just sit there and watch politicians amass quick wealth while in Public Office, while the majority getting poorer and poorer. Everybody knows that the present Parl. Rep. does not have the capacity nor the ability to move GB forward, to create employment for the GB youths and other villagers.

DLP strong hold? People becoming decultured and refuse to see the light even though impoverishment and neglect is brought on them. They love their PM and politician, in light of increased poverty, more than themselves.

Nothing worse than having to pull onto the edge of a cliff for someone to squeeze pass. Even when they construct new roads is like they rationing space. Either fix the road fully or if the fund aren’t enough use it where you can build a complete road. No sense givin half a road.

I agree with the part that she might not have any say, but Grand Bay people are Die-Hard Laborites and cannot seem to grasp the concept of electing one who has their best interest at hand. “We voting Labour Just Like That!”, In my opinion the dumbest campaign slogan ever.
I am originally from the area and the last time I was home I raised the same issues, not only of the condition of the roads (especially those leading up to and in Tete Morne), but also of the Resource Centre, (Which by the way was headline news on DNO when the PM praised the then Council leader for the way in which she balanced the books). The building has been just standing there not being made full use of.
I spoke to the Parl. Rep who indicated a few years ago that a certain amount of money was already set aside for the road work, but when I asked about the details as in whether it would include drainage etc. she said she did not know. lol. Her husband knew, he started with drainage, which seem to have been the last significant road improvement in the area.

She was only ever appointed as a holding candidate for a safe seat and she will be unceremoniously shifted aside into a non-political post as consolation. Up to now she has not relalised that it was not her political acumen that got her that seat. I mentioned the scenario of a young child falling from a tree for example with some possible broken bones and some other injuries (something that happens in that area), an ambulance would have to take close to half an hour to navigate around these holes as not to aggravate magnitude of the injuries, time which could be the difference between life or death and you are telling me that farm roads which in most part lead to farms owned by just a couple families and hardly frequented deserve more attention?
Is the Parl. Rep representing the people of the plants and animals or does the Govt. see the communities which are most loyal to it as less than animals, I must wonder.
Labor got my vote once, and that was over a decade ago, never again!

      March 14, 2012

That is besides the point! A couple years ago, my heart cried while driving through the Kalinago Territory. The roads then in my opinion seemed to be worse than that of Tete Morne. I am no longer too sure about that.

did the reporter ever mentioned the work that the parl rep did on the road infront of the resource center , in the tetemeorn community, at morne ma neset. she has also constructed the retaining wall near the resource centerr following which she constructed the multipurose court. She has spent $100,000 in impoving the housing condition of some of the residents. After all roam was not built in one day but it was built any way. i kow the parl rep is worling hard to address that issue in spite of goverment financial challenges and the condition of the roads across the island.
parl rep hold on strong we love you.
