Ross University student pens book “Surviving Hurricane Maria”

Cover of the book

A student of Ross University School of Medicine has written a book on his experience in Dominica and surviving the devastating effect of Hurricane Maria.

Micah D. Renicker said the book, “Surviving Hurricane Maria,” describes the breathtaking beauty of the Nature Island before the hurricane, and details the horrors of Maria.

“The book is selling well in the USA, with a few sales even being reported in Europe, and it is being well-reviewed by readers,” he said. “In an effort to “give back” to the island that I love, I donated more than 25% of first month’s proceeds to organizations providing hurricane relief aid to Dominica.”

Renicker is hoping the book will inspire more people around the world to offer assistance to Dominica.

“Hopefully readers will want to visit the island as soon as tourism returns,” he said.

He also said it is his earnest desire to do everything he can to use to book to promote Dominica and its unparalleled natural beauty.

“I truly want to see Dominica make quick, full recovery,” Renicker stated.

I think of Dominica as a burning building and has lost all of its resources, there’s no trucks to put the fire out, the only way to put the fire out is to form a human chain, a human chain that requires every Dominican. Now, in that line there is all the deferent colors of the political parties. The water begins to move up the chain and suddenly it stops because one color decides they are not passing the water to another color and the country perish. The moral of the story is that for Dominica to survive the people must be color blind and drop that ignorant behavior and be one.

so while Dominicans making noise for rashan and blaming skeritt for all things a STUDENT saw the opportunities in Maria and is making money of it. see how we as a people is holding ourselves down. Only if we develop a mind set of creating opportunities of situations and capitalizing on them we will move forward as a country.

You do realize that the student you refer to has raised a good deal of money to help Dominica and continues that ongoing effort. The book is an effort to raise awareness and funds to help Dominicans.

You don’t seem to understand what he’s trying to so. What the person who commented is trying to say is that people are having their political rivalry when they could be trying something else to make back some money since after Maria. Or at least something similar to what I said.

Great book. I have ordered my copies. I hope the author grants full film rights and royalties to Dominica for continued developments.

It is long past the time for the diaspora to return in their numbers and rebuild domestic residential properties. They may need assistance to make this happen because in the long term we all matter. We are all in it together. Tourism is an income with advantages and disadvantages but the people also need somewhere to live and return to. Duty free allowances to remain indefinite for essential rebuilding materials and appliances. Open the ports 24/7, train staff and review in 6-12 months.

The good Lord has blessed Dominica with exquisite natural beauty. The mountains, hills, lush green vegetation, the many rivers and streams, fertile soil, the surrounding magnificent seas, Dominica is a heavenly kingdom on earth. To enhance all of its natural attributes, it needs a caring government that engages in politics that works for everybody. Unmatched natural beauty, inhabited by peaceful, happy people, with a government that works for everybody, what a true paradise Dominica can be! Is this achievable?
