The new president of the Rotaract Club of Roseau, 26 years old Stiengel Carter, has promised to do more for the community during his period of at the helm of the service organisation.

Mr. Carter was inducted at a ceremony at the Alliance Francaise in Roseau over the weekend where he addressed members with the theme ‘building communities bridging continents’. Carter , a resident of Canefield told members that to build communities must be taken literally as well as figuratively.

“The theme challenges us to go out and build our communities in every sense of the word,” Carter told a large audience.

“The theme also calls us to bridge continents by forging partnerships with groups and organizations about the world,” he added.

Carter said he would do more this year to help empower communities, he said the club would also focus on developing its members while not ignoring the important social agenda. He said the world had common problems, “and the theme calls on us to find joint solutions address them.”

In concluding his message, the new Rotaract president reminded members of the importance of service with a quote from Martin Luther King Jr.

“…everybody can be great, because anybody can serve. You don’t have to have a college degree to serve, you don’t have to make your subject and verb agree to serve, you only need a heart full of grace and a soul generated by love,” Stiengel concluded.

He took over from Lucille Worrel who served the club for a one-year period between 2009 and 2010. Miriam St. Luce is the new Rotaract vice president. The other members of the new Rotaract executive are  Bianca Payne- secretary, Tyisha Williams- assistant secretary/treasurer, Amy Nelson treasurer, Brenton Henry- professional director and public relations officer, Zara Lewis- finance director, Johnny Seraphine- international director, Lynthia Gilber- community service director and Curvin Joseph- service director.
