Rotaract Club of Roseau gets new head

The new executive of the Rotaract Club of Roseau

Royal Bank employee Bianca Payne has officially taken over as head of the Rotaract Club of Roseau.

The Club welcomed its new executive at its annual Investiture dinner at the weekend.

Featured speaker at the event, Lennox Linton congratulated the members of the club and urged them to continue the good work that they do.

Linton said that members should feel proud that they are working toward building a better Dominica.

He said he was impressed at the fact that they found the courage to remain positive at a time when being influenced by the negatives was much easier.

The Rotaract Club of Roseau is a non-profit community service organisation for young professionals within the ages of 18-30.

Within the last year the club undertook various community service projects throughout the island which included the Carnival Princess show, a children’s Christmas party in the community of Morne Prosper, a Lifeline Project in the community OF La Plaine, and visiting the homeless at the Grotto.

Congratulation to the new board. However, this is a professional club if i am not mistaken, as a such should protay a professional image, the short dresses and hokey shoes should be left for friday nite happy hour. The image that is set in this picture is a serious turn off, Rotoract is now not my first choice.

You all can send in those dresses on Thursdays at 7:30 pm upstairs Prevo cinemall (conference room)

i hope all these critisizers are perfect individuals? not an ounce of fat, wear only nun clothes and i hope they are as involved as these members of the Rotaract club. Get up your lazy bums and do some thing positive for yourself and your country. stop hiding behind the screen you look at everyday and make negative comment…………..

I concur!!! Dats all some Dominicans do. NOTHING but sit back and CRITICIZE!

  4. July 11, 2012

I really think that people especially domminicans should stop swaying away from the actual issue and dwell on negativity. Do any of you critisizers know how difficult it is to paint pillars of characters beneath the brutal blazing sun? Do any of you kno realize the work involved in planning Princess show? Do any of you understands how it is to care for the elderly?what about ensuring the safety of people’s children at a christmas party? we have to count for all of them at the end of the day. People shoul rise above the negativity and embrace whats positive. Just like you all members of the Rotaract club are humans exposed to the life. dress code or not fat or not, what they do over rides all these flaws and should merit more praise. We are a family in our club and when we meet on Thursday night at Prevo Cinemal from 7:30pm all your concers will be discussed and i asure you they will be addressed because thats what we live for. SERVICE BEFORE SELF.So thank you guys for your comment, we will turn all the negatives into positives. Oh yes you are invited no matter you color, class or creed. :-D

I absolutely endorse “Star”‘s comments. There should be more forward thinking and proactive youth like yourself and the other Rotaractors.
Its a pity that some of our people are so narrow-minded, and that they are the ones speaking the loudest…Empty barrels really do make the most noise!

i just think they should all have worn their rotaract blazers. They may be professionals but they sure dont look it in that photo.in my opinion the ones wearing the blazers are dressed more appropriately than the others. ofcourse with the exception of the one in the blue shoe whose skirt is just too short.
lesson to all: when a photo opportunity presents itself check yourself out as an individual or as a group and decide whether or not your are appropriately attired for the purpose of the photo.

As a former president of the Rotaract Club I would like to take the opportunity to address the public on a few things.

While some of your concerns re the attire of the young people may be justified, I believe that there is a more constructive way to bring that point across. Rotaractors you must however take this into consideration the image of the club is to valuable to be left to ridicule and as young professional your mode of dressing must reflect the ideals of the organization you represent. Further to one must seek to find out whether this was a photo submitted by the organization or if as media professionals do “just use anything” for their article.

Secondly, how dare your malicious people take jabs at people for their weight or diss these young women because they do not meet your perceived idea of beauty. I did not realize that this was a beauty competition.

The purpose of the article among other things is to highlight the fact that despite all the negatives that are going on in this country, a few young men and women are putting the needs of their community above that of their own. How many of you who are quick to criticize are doing anything positive to build or change the culture in Dominica in a positive way. From the comments, I see we have far to go still because some are bent on bringing and breaking down people.

Why not join the club and effect the change you would like to see or better yet develop yourself holistically.

Regarding your part about whether it was a photo given to DNO or one ‘taken’ by the media, the onus is on the Club to submit a better photo if they feel that the one published does not adequately represent the Club.

That being said, the media likes sensationalism. But I think that they too could have made an effort and gotten a better more professional looking pic.

PS. Remember when a certain ‘media professional’ was hired as news editor with DNO, under the previous ownership? Well I was one of the ‘lucky’ ones to see the photo that accompanied the article; straight from facebook looking like a courgar ready to pounce ( I am sure you got the picture). When the comments started to fly, within 1/2 hour of posting the article, the photo was changed to a much more professionally looking one.

Yes, they are not properly dressed and majority are overweight, but please, the focus is on the good that Rotaract does, they visit the sick and shut in, paint pillars of characters at schools to help motivate our youth. Let us think of these things and praise them. Let us think and appriciatie that instead of doing drugs and alcohol there are a few positive person involved in community activities. We are the sam eones who cry that the youth going astray. Let us support our fellow men, big, small, overweigt, underweight, black, white, green. christain, catholic etc!. Let us help build Dominica.

As a past Rotaractor (of an overseas club) I too have concerns regarding the attire. The Rotaract club is a professional club and should be so in every respect. Look at the photo of the Leos/Lions club executive posted in a separate article yesterday on DNO; chalk and cheese.

To the members of the Rotaract Club, I know you guys are goind a great job and I do hope that you continue to do a great job. But please do not give a false/bad impression of the club. Some persons may be hearing about Rotaract for the first time, and this is the first impression that they get.

The one in the white top looks like a queen contestant; the other in the blue shoes, her blazer is almost longer than her dress..come on.

Please send DNO a better photo of the Executive.

And keep up the good work.

By looking at the picture I can tell that our import bills are astronomical. Back in the days our young ladies were lean and trim. With the exception of the red dress the other ladies seem to be breaking the scale. Things have changed in d/ca – too much KFC, Pizza or imported juices.

such a shame that people do not know how to be positive anymore these are a group of young people doing something good and just look at the kind of comments hardly anyway is saying good job or congratulatiions hmmmm smh anyway congratulations to my club and the new exec i am a proud rotaractor always will be long live rotaract

What does that tell you? First impressions are very important. The work they are doing is good, but if you make a bad first impression all your good work may not get noticed. You should use that as a learning experience. Do not take it as a negative

    • Dress Code
      July 10, 2012

Is true their doing a positive thing in Dominica but get a proper dress code. Have you ever check out or see how the Leo Club of Dominica members present themselves. They present themselves in a professional manner But this picture looks like a beauty competition. In the future look into.

Ladies, applause to you for your effort. Just a side note. Have you noticed how the heads of government of the G20 “pose” to take pictures? They do not pose like they are queen show contestants. It would have been better if you had just stood in two line. It would hve given you a more professional look. Thing of the propriety of time and place.

    • hmmmm
      July 10, 2012

I applaud the young folks for their effort. However I do agree they do look like they are posing for some contest or beauty pageant. The other striking thing is almost everyone is overweight, this is just such a problem in Dominica at this time. The nation needs to get health and weight conscious. Maybe this could be one of the first things on their agenda as a club.
      Good luck!!

        July 10, 2012

You will get many negative points. Overweight people seem to outnumber proper sized people nowadays.

      • really?
        July 10, 2012

Why so many thumbs down? this is not a negative comment…. they were wished good luck and congratulated. The other observation is merely a fact and its obvious that people do not wish to face the truth about obesity in Dominica. Well, just get some stats on hypertension and heart disease and maybe you folks will begin to open your eyes a bit. It is a serious concern among health officials and the medical fraternity. Have fun thumbs downing but its a fact!

The dressing is not befitting Rotaract name. Come on young people have some decency at your functions.

    • July 10, 2012

    • Joke dat man?
