Rotaract Clubs worldwide celebrates World Rotaract Week from March 12th to 18th. It celebrates the chartering of the very first Rotaract Club in North Charlotte, North Carolina 44 years ago which marked the beginning of what is known as the Rotaract Movement.
The Rotaract Club of Roseau is hosting many events to mark this grand achievement.
Rotaract is a voluntary community service organization of young professionals between the ages of 18 – 30. The Rotaract Club of Roseau was chartered on September 16th, 1985 by the Rotary Club of Dominica. The club provides an opportunity for young professionals between the ages of 18 – 30 to engage in activities which will address the social and physical needs of its community while building the personal and professional lives of its members through fellowship and service.
Since the club was formed it has executed countless service projects in the various communities of Dominica bettering the lives of the young, old and less fortunate.
Some of the projects undertaken by the club include an annual Children’s Christmas Party (held in a different community each year), annual Rotaract/Haliborange Spelling Bee Competition, street feeding programs, beach and river cleanups, care of the elderly, donations to the less fortunate, donations to the HIV/AIDS unit, beautification projects and the organization of the annual Carnival Princess Show among many others.
In highlight of World Rotaract week some of the activities planned are;
-A Guest Night at Rotaract meeting this Thursday, where persons are invited to learn about Rotaract and to interact with members.
-A visitation is also planned for this Saturday to the home of Mr. Brumant, an elderly needy resident of the community of Fond Cole. We will take this opportunity to hand over groceries, clean the home and immediate surroundings and socialize with him.
– On Sunday, members and prospective of the club will attend church service in Grandbay, and donate a gift basket to someone in the community identified by the church.
World Rotaract Week is a time for celebrating the success and importance of the Rotaract Movement. We embrace our motto: “Fellowship through Service”; giving back to our communities and embodying the ideals of Fellowship, Excellence and Humanity.
