Candidates for both political parties contesting the Salybia constituency have condemned a stone throwing incident in Bataca involving an elderly citizen.

Casius Darroux of the Dominica Labour Party (DLP) and Claudius Sanford of the United Workers Party (UWP) have both taken to social media to condemn the incident, which occurred late last Friday.

According to reports the home of an elderly woman was stoned and DLP posters in her yard torn and defaced by unknown people.

“I strongly condemn this action,” Darroux said. “They stoned her house and went right into her yard and destroyed her Labour posters. Please people, respect the senior citizens. I strongly condemn all forms of violence whether blue, red, or green.”

Sanford described the incident as “unfortunate.”

“I want to be very clear that myself and my team strongly condemn these actions and all forms of violence,” he said in his statement. “This is an unfortunate event and my heart goes out to the family. These actions must see no repetition.”

He called on supporters to honor the Election Code of Conduct and to be peaceful and respectful, “sticking to the discussion of the pertinent issue.”

DNO understand the incident has been reported to the police.

I applaud both candidates for taking a stand against this atrocity. Dominicans have always taken the Kalinago people for granted and now the politicians, especially the ruling labour party. The old people are vulnerable and they are been taken advantage of. How many years now, they have made empty promises to the Kalinago people and Dominicans on a whole? Now on the eve of elections they are using the territory for their dumping grounds. I look at the so called houses which were built in the reserve, not even a single size bed can fit in one, a total insult to the Kalinago people.

People I know that you are angry but please don’t take your anger out on the elderly, they don’t know any better because they are being fooled by the master magician. It is a pity that some of us fail to see what they are doing, they have been there for 14 years and they still can’t get any thing done, yet they are bribing their way in but again, that is the only way they will win.

THAT KIND OF BEHAVIOUR MAKES NO SENSE. just respect each other liberties

True , people are smart in territory now . Don’t accept bribes. That is left over building materials that had to be used to build houses a long time ago. All the time lobour in power ,they never do much for Caribs regarding scholarships for kids . Now they want to fool people. No way ,blue All the way .

For once our partisan politics have been pushed to the back burner. I salute both gentlemen. There is much to learn from this simple act.

So we all see what it is that “ticlkes” us politically. the sensational, the mepuis, the name calling, the Monelle’s and the Reggies. Such magnanimity is just not salacious for us. Well done Kalinago. I believe the gentlemen spoke for both sides. So who vex lost. Those who find difficulty with this and still intent on apportioning blame on the “other side” are simply saying that thet will not be satisfied until an innocent blood, which could very well be their very own or a relative is shed. How pathetic.

Where are all those organizations and individuals who condemned Skerritt statement on Monelle. Don’t you all think this acts of violence should be condemned. It started with the billboards now it has upgraded to the elderly. Instead of forcefully condemning these acts of violence it was hinted by the UWP leader it might be labourites destroying their billboards and now i guess the same thing would be said in this case.

If these peoples jump ship, they will be remembered as the ungrateful bunch,
While in the North everything is getting done at the eleventh hour, housing in the territory got multiple founding.
We the faithful supporters of DLP only get scraps and the eleventh hour.
I bet we will not see this administrative block in 2015 or the relocation of Lagoon peoples, or the Marina or the completion on the Hotel at Cabrits.
Considering the state of dilapidation of our streets in Portsmouth, the hospital road, Chance, Cabrits and the reception areas in Cabrits it’s really sad. We in the North shouldn’t even expect anything this cruise ship season in Portsmouth. Like many other things the South West will be gearing up to take in all in.
How much do they care about us , well we will find out at the eleventh hour

Fellow citizens and residents of Dominica we have been ask to cast our votes to choose our representatives and thereby our government. Let us do so in a civilized manner. I know we are passionate about our various candidates and want our party to win. That’s fine. However we as citizens and residents of this beautiful island must not and should never stoop so LOW and go as far as stoning our elderly citizens. It’s a SHAME and a DISGRACE when supporters of any political party can assault our seniors in the name of our respective political colours. The leaders of all political parties should condemn such acts immediately. Every citizen /resident have the right to display the flags ,symbols, pictures and posters of the political party he or she chooses to support. We must learn to respect other peoples property at ALL times. TREPASSING is against the law. Violence of any kind by any person or group of person, blue ,red , green or yellow will definitely cast your party in a bad light. Discuss the issues, respect each others’ opinion and their right to support who they choose to support. Whoever was behind that cowardly act should go and apologize to this elderly person. God bless the Commonwealth of Dominica.

I have friends and family in the reserve and all reports are that tons of building materials is being dumped in the reserve. If anyone makes a mistake and lights a fire up there the whole of reserve would burn down. People if a government had done so GOOD, There would be no need for all those election goodies. Whenever there are rallies the whole of the reserve goes because of building materials and other promises. This is enslavement people. You cannot help people and boast it on your platform. Its no help at all. Its haughtiness, its self gratification, its idolatry. The poor people needs help! They need to be empowered and educated not taken for a joy ride. Hold their hands and teach them to walk and stop feeding them in their cradles where they will remain all their lives.
On the other hand i condemn any form of violence, but people the way things are done its creating more jealousy and strife. People fighting over who get more and who didn’t get. Its just destroying the fabric of society, we will pay for our wrongs in the years to come.

While I join both candidates in condemning this act, I would not at all be surprised to hear it was done by DLP operatives to try to make UWP look ugly. I think their target was well planned… home an elderly kalinago woman’s was stoned and they went into her house and tore down her DLP flyers? DLP candidate condemned it? Did they call police to conduct an honest investigation even if police cannot be trusted? This one reminds of the coward and evil crime of Christmas morning of 2010, when both Mr. and Mrs. Emmanuel got very close to being killed in their home which was set on fire. Unfortunately, four years later no one has been found guilty. By this I mean similar in nature and DNO, please understand that I am NOT accusing DLP operatives of the Christmas day firebombing, because they are the government of the day and NO WAY would they have plotted such evil act against an elderly couple.

      November 25, 2014

if you follow the social media one would see the level of violence and threats that the UWP supporters are out there supporting. It was unfortunate when their leader proceeded to blame the DLP supporters for the damage being done to their own posters and Bill Boards. Now I guess he will also blame the DLP for attacking their own supporters. All the violence seem to be coming from the UWP supporters so please Lenox, condemn and let your supporters know that you seriously condemn these actions without making excuses for it.
