Security forces to host road run to raise funds for Dominica

Police officers in Dominica after Hurricane Maria

The Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force together with regional forces that are on the island to assist after Hurricane Maria will be hosting a series of road runs this weekend in order to raise funds for the island.

The run will be held under the theme “Together We Can, Together We Will” on Saturday, November 18th, 2017 and will take place in four areas around Dominica.

At a press conference earlier this week, second in command of the Jamaica Defense Force, Aubyn Sibblies, explained that the event is being held to raise funds for Dominica following the ravages of Hurricane Maria.

“Funds to be raised will be from our Caribbean countries and it will come in the form of corporate donations and contributions from individuals who wish to contribute to the ongoing efforts here,” he stated.

He said the theme seeks “to show that as CARICOM and CARICOM forces we stand together with Dominica in this, their time of need.”

He encouraged residents to participate in the run wherever they can to show their strength and resilience.

“The run will occur in four areas in Dominica, areas being Salybia, Portsmouth, Grand Bay and Roseau. What we are asking Dominicans to do is to come out, and show your true strength. Show the strength of Dominicans that we have been seeing since we have been here. Again the run is here just to show your strength and to raise funds for Dominica and to show that CARICOM is here,” Sibblies noted.

In Salybia, the run will start at the Salybia Primary School and goes to two and a half kilometer then back.

In Roseau it will start at the Financial Center, to Independence Street, to Bath Road, then to Hillsborough Street, along Bay Street, turning to Victoria Street, through the Botanical Gardens and ending at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium.

In Grand Bay, the run will start on the Geneva Bridge, through the Pierre Charles Boulevard, to the village itself, then to Lower Powell and back to the starting point.

In Portsmouth, the event will start at Ross University to the Portsmouth Police Station and back to the starting point.

Here we go sick minded Dominicans even in a time like this all find the most negative statements to say.
People around the world see you guys as jokers because of your mentality.
This is not a coalition government and you guys obviously do not have a clue how government operate.
All I can say is the UK and the rest of the world would not dish out money to DA if they felt it was being misused.
In that case femme la blush.
    Idiots

Now Dominicans who are supporting Skerrit, those who are ready to insult and fight the people supporting the opposition should be able to see all the passport money that Skerrit was receiving were used to pay salaries especially his. Helping children in Roseau schools that are more fortunate than those at school in the countryside. Are you telling me that Skerrit never secured any money for a time of crisis? Even before and after hurricane Maria, Dominicans could barely make ends meets.Where are they going to get money to help Dominica when they have lost almost everything? Is the gov’t thinking that the $300 that is given to the elderly is at the bank? Those of you who thought that Skerrit had a vision for Dominica; here you go now the police force who is taking money from the arrests of drug dealers are now begging money to rebuild Dominica. Dominica is in deep …..

I think it is a good effort. NO one said the funds were coming from the victims themselves. As a matter of fact, they said funds from the Caribbean countries. I wish them the best.

Guy; are the Caribbean countries in Dominica?

      The ride is in Dominica!

    • November 21, 2017

I suggest that you can see that they are riding all around the Caribbean to collect funds.Well; if this is the case I will need a serious eye check without forgetting a brain check.I am not against Skerrit nor do I support him but it is a shame where he was boasting how much the economy is on the rise in a country where there is no growth is now riding around the ” Caribbean ” begging people in distress for money .Where is the citizen by investment and passport money?

    You people are very sick!

Let’s see the entire country as far as it is believed is messed up; the majority of people in the country whose’ property sustained damage are unable to conduct repairs on their property, what sense will it make to go and ride a motor cycle begging beggars  who are begging for help?

If one does not have to help themselves, how can they help others?

If you puppets of Skerrit and Carbon want to ride across Dominica to show people you handout you receive from China or some place do, burn your free gasoline, but to talk about raising funds is ridiculous: just another show on the circus agenda!

Francisco I am 100% sure you are a pathetic sad individual. There is no way a person can be so negative. You can never be really happy.

Guy if you and your parents were as happy as I am, you and the bunch of scums who are criticizing me would have nothing to say, maybe you all are fascinated with the stupid three wheal motor cycle China or somebody gave to you all; that do not not excite me, I have more than one motor vehicle parked in my back yard which cost more than a hundred thousand dollars each okay!

And mind you I did not thief anything from anybody nor did I sell drugs, or diplomatic passport to get them! Before you think I am pathetic, think in terms that the powers that be sells you all a bit of stale rotten pound of meat in Dominica for almost a hundred dollars.

They sell you less than a pound of meat for $58.00 at least that is the price at Astaphan’s, your existing in misery and hardship should be your concern, and not be concerned about some stupid idea of police going to ride in four places in Dominica to get money to help victims of Maria. How is the money coming from out of of Dominica, and you…

Mendacious, bombastic Francisco, did you bother to read the article before you post another nasty, negative comment, or did you just look at the stock photograph and concluded that the “run” meant riding a motorcycle and begging? Read the article again. People and organizations all over the world stage athletic events and sign up sponsors to raise funds for all kinds of charities. I have participated in walkathons to raise funds for cancer research and my daughters have participated in 50 mile bike rides to raise funds for various charities. You should leave your luxurious life in California, get a corporate sponsor and join the run. You may just lose some fat off that feeble brain of yours. I usually don’t read your diatribe but the one that have me wondering if you are a sane individual are your comments on the video of Dominica’s Independence Day celebration where you wrote the following nonsense “The greatest clown show I suspect of the day was when I saw Charles Savarin arrived…
