PRESS RELEASE: The Ministry of National Security through the Office of Disaster Management will be staging a simulation exercise at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium on the morning of Saturday May 8th 2010.

The simulation exercise will include the participation from The Dominica Police Services, The Dominica Fire and Ambulance Service, The Ministry of Health, The Dominica Red Cross, The Dominica Water and Sewerage Company, The Dominica Electricity Company among other stakeholders in testing the readiness of these functionaries in delivering the requisite support to events taking place at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium.

The Ministry of National Security views this exercise as extremely necessary and to be of an opportune time in testing the readiness and capacity and capability of the various agencies to manage and or respond to any eventuality at the Sports Stadium given the fact that Dominica continues to host major regional and international events at that facility.

The hosting of the annual World Creole Festival, the hosting of ODI Cricket in 2009 and the upcoming May 28 and 30th ODI games between the Republic of South Africa and The West Indies justifies the need for such an exercise.

The objective of the exercise is to test sections of the National Disaster Emergency Plan to include but not limited to the following:

1.    communication plan
2.    evacuation plan
3.    mass causality plan

The exercise being staged at the WPSS will not interrupt or interfere with the game scheduled by the Dominica Cricket Association on that day. In fact the game scheduled will add some realism to the simulation and therefore patrons and supporters of the two teams are asked to come out to support their teams in large numbers.

At the end of the exercise an evaluation and critic (an After Action Review) will be held where the strengths and weaknesses of the exercise will be identified with the view at taking the necessary corrective actions to arrive at best practice.

The cooperation and support of the General public is therefore solicited.

Why this got to be a justina charles plan and a labour party thing? Why can’t it be a Dominica moving forward thing? This kind of thing should be done at least once a year. Not only the stadium but all public places on the island. We as Dominicans take this life safety thing seriosly because we never know when and where it is going to happen. I live in america and i am into that kind of work and these people take this thing very seriously. If a public building don’t have a fire alarm system, they have to put one or shut down when the fire inspectors say so. So as a dominican i approve of this stimulation and do hope that the people play their part in this.

Jungle, it just prove to say that she has a Port Folio to look after and she’s fullfilling it to the best of her ability by ensuring the safety and security of the people , the facility and the game.

        It is Dominica doing it.
