Support for sexual abuse victims

supportThe need to find a listening ear or a shoulder to lean on will soon be over for victims of sexual abuse with the introduction of a support group dubbed, “Survivors Anonymous.”

Executive Director of Lifeline Ministries, Tina Alexander, said the group will officially begin holding sessions from Thursday 29th May, 2014.

“The Survivors Anonymous group is born out of the victim support training that we recently completed and we realized that there were people who needed to have some help in coping with the experience of being abused or assaulted,” she explained.

According to her the group, which is confidential, provides support and counseling in periods that lasts about six weeks at a time. Interested persons can become a part of the group by contacting the Lifeline Ministries or the Dominica National Council of Women.

“The groups will be small with between six to eight people and the sessions will last for six weeks,” Alexander stated. “If someone contacts us we will conduct an interview and put them into whichever group that is coming up. This is an ongoing program so as people come, we will fit them in.”

She noted further that the confidentiality of the members of the group is of utmost importance and will be maintained.

The groups will be run by trained counselors but the members will be supporters of victims and survivors.

“Quite a number of times the ones who want to help are survivors and it is a matter of working together so that we can help each other to become stronger,” Alexander said.

Good initiative. We also need to be proactive to stop abuse before it happens. We need to be on the lookout for an infamous paedophile/sexual predator SHABBA. He is out of prison and has already attacked a primary school child. Parents watch your children! We must all be vigilant and protect our children against such heinous criminals.

Great Initiative by Life Line Ministries.

I remember the song written by Brian Adams and sang by Northern Lights in the 1980: “TEARS ARE NOT ENOUGH”!

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ZLClmhSkGs

    “Tears Are Not Enough”

    As every day goes by
How can we close our eyes
Until we open up our hearts

    We can learn to share
And show how much we care
Right from the moment that we start

    Seems like overnight
We see the world in a different light
    Somehow our innocence is lost

    How can we look away
    ‘Cause every single day
We’ve got to help at any cost

    We can bridge the distance
Only we can make the difference
Don’t ya know that tears are not enough

    If we can pull together
We could change the world forever
Heaven knows that tears are not enough

It’s up to me and you
To make the dream come true
It’s time to take our message everywhere

    C’est l’amour qui nous rassemble
    D’ici ?l’autre bout du monde
Let’s show them Canada still cares
You know that we’ll be there

If we should try together you and I
Maybe we could understand the reasons why
If we take a stand every woman, child and man
We can make it work for God’s sake lend a hand
