The beauty of the Dominica

dominican scenery

My favorite of all the Caribbean islands is Dominica. It is wild, forested, and mountainous and hasn’t changed much since Columbus first saw it on November 3, 1493. He named it “Dominica” in honor of “The Lord’s Day.”

The citizenry proudly assert that it is the only island that Columbus would recognize today. Unlike other Caribbean islands the geography hasn’t changed much in over 500 years.

The Honorable Roosevelt B. Douglas, Prime Minister, puts it this way: “From sunrise to sunset, Dominica presents a magnificent palette of color and an endless array of beauty…Mother Nature has blessed our country with remarkable mountain ranges, towering waterfalls, pristine rivers and spectacular attractions. Our country is a land of unique experiences, inspiring scenery and memorable activities-above and below the sea.” I agree with him completely.

One of the many reasons I like Dominica is the position of cruise ships in the main city of Roseau. Ships dock in the very center of town. Very much like Nassau in Bermuda and Juneau and Ketchikan in Alaska.

Well, we didn’t decide to sell out passports to countries that permit sex with children as young as 3 years old!!! He did. Dominican citizens in the UAE and freely have sex with kids by marrying the kids – any age is fine.

      Totally disgusting!!!

And Dominicans treat it as if it were a garbage can. That not only ruins the island but also keeps tourists away.

Dominicas beauty is deceptive, it is a sick sick country.

The country is not sick; some people are. Examine your conscience. If you keep busy in the Lord and help your fellow people, being kind, offering a helping hand, you will find it is a great country. It is when you are idle you note all the bad effects and criticize.
Every country has its advantages and disadvantages What is important is to be fruitfully busy. Be kind to others. A kind word and a smile go a long way. You will feel better for it.
Look here and/or listen up and read! I reside in Toronto. We are still in winter, since October. Thank God this year He spared us from a bad winter. Even though the winter may be bad, we can make the most of it. It is how we live. We do not have to be rich or well-to-do. We simply make the most of what we have and thank God, for it could be worst.
When we are genuinely appreciative to God and to others, we receive showers of blessings and graces. God helps us cope with our trials, tribulations and obstacles.

I reside in an area where my face is known among management and the employees of the stores. If something is right, they hear from me. If it is bad, they hear from me and right to their head office.
Today at the grocery store I bought some red peppers which look small. I said jokingly to the cashier, “Did they lose weight?” She laughed. I could have said it to the manager. Every one has some problem; you are not alone. Being kind is nothing new for me. I have known this ever since I learned to walk and talk, thanks be to my parents.
Your associates also play a part. A good sense of humor goes a long way. When shopping, some people talk to me and I do not know them. We also share a joke. If I am able to assist them physically, I do. It is in giving that we receive. . .
God sends blessings and graces on those who are loving and kind. If you continue to be negative, you will never find happiness even in the little things.
God bless you with also his graces.

If I was a marketing professional, I would position and advertise Dominica simply as:

“Discover Dominica…the Hidden Treasure of the Caribbean!”

    And go from there!

That’s why they are trying their best to keep it under develop so that when Columbus return it will be the first island in the Caribbean to be identified any way keep it up Dominicans DONKEY HOLES as u all are

        March 12, 2016

Columbus is gone; never to return. If God saved him he will return on Judgment Day but to where? Only God knows.
Setting that aside, a lot of money is required to repair those areas. Remember TS Erica which created havoc in Dominica. More money is required to do much more and to please everyone. Pray for that.

All UWPites do is breath, eat, and the name Skerrit. They go to bed with the last thing on their mind and wake in the morning with the first thing on their mind. During their sleep they dream of the name….Skerrit….They have SKERRITAMAINIAH. People like Angelo, Matt, Blasting, Coipel, Lennox and the list is longer than mile. It would be interesting to see Norman and Shirley in DA so they can ease the frustration they face in the US.

      Yes KID ON THE BLOCK,

How does this article end up with UWPites been mentioned. What does this have to do with politics? Skerrit name was not even mentioned in this article. this was written when Douglas was PM that ‘s who is mentioned. Please grow up ‘Kid on the Block” and write something that makes sense.

Great piece, but totally spoilt by the reference to the ‘honourable’ Roosevelt Skerritt. This man is anything other than ‘honourable’.

Dear pastor Bill (…I presume it is you?). Thank you for your plug for our island home. It is indeed beautiful to behold but its governance stinks. Where did you get that population figure of 75,000 from, unless it is also from Mr. Skerrit’ fertile imagination? Our last 2011 census gives a preliminary figure of 71,293 – as far as I’m aware the official finite results of that census have never been released. And the U.N. development program forecast a zero population growth from 2010-1015, putting us among the slowest growing populations in the Caribbean (Worldbank – see DNO report of 18 Nov., 2013).
I must also chide you for your condescending surprise at the the fluency in English of the stall holder you met in Roseau old market. Our country has a literacy rate of 94% (both as per our 2011 census and your CIA handbook) compared with a claimed rate of 99% for the U.S.A. (as per C.I.A. data). I wonder where you got your doctorate but guess it is was not from the Punjab.

      March 13, 2016

Don’t you all see this article was written when Douglas was prime minister. I am sure the population has changed by now.

  13. Lovely Dominica! Thanks to God for the day me part of you. I am far away from you now; but you are always my mind.

I am coming back to you in a little while, my beautiful Paradise; Dominica please wait for me.!
