One of the founding members of the “The Transition Movement,” an international initiative that helps support communities in becoming more resilient in the face of climate change, over-reliance on oil and growing inequalities, will be visiting Dominica in December.

Naresh Giangrande will be in Dominica at the invitation of Waitukubuli Ecological Foundation (W.E.F) to explore how Transition could benefit the island.

Giangrande will give a public talk on Tuesday, December 13 at the UWI campus, outlining the concepts of the Transition Movement.

He will also hold a workshop (on December 19th, location TBA) to offer practical suggestions and training as to how we in Dominica could set up and run Transition projects, faced as we are with the problems of a small-island state.

Giangrande will also have the opportunity to learn from participants about some of the local groups and initiatives that are working towards sustainability in Dominica, and discuss how these could become more effective.

The Transition Movement now has groups in 43 countries – from England to Uganda, Russia to Brazil, Chile, South Africa and Australia. Wherever they are, the groups seek to find a relevant local way to deal with the world’s impending economic and environmental catastrophe. The word “transition” is used to show how we can transition from today’s situation to one that is community-led and centred on meeting our particular needs.

Transition projects reject the old model of development for something sustainably based around small groups, and rooted in local communities.
This could be relevant to Dominica with our history of self-help (koudmen) within communities.

Transition emphasizes the positive things that people can do to create a better quality of life – from organic farming, and permaculture to renewable energy, food security, local cooperatives and so on. The multinationals want a globalised system that creates ever-greater profits for fewer and fewer, but Transition says that we need smaller, more manageable systems based on our local needs and local economies.

Transition promises a down to earth, non-partisan approach to community security by people cooperating to undertake projects that enhance their livelihoods and conserve the natural environment. Transition seeks to support all such initiatives in a variety of ways. Come and find out more on December 13th at UWI..

What a fascinating set of comments! I thank you all for this great way to get to know Dominica. Firstly i agree with some of what\’s been said. We in the industrialized nations have not come to terms with the environmental damage that 2 centuries of our activities has caused. I for one certainly do not expect small island states to carry the burden that we have caused, and one of Transition\’s key messages is for us in Europe and the USA to put our own house in order. And people in the Transition have done. Many others sadly have not.
Where i cannot agree is that climate change is some sort of hoax. Climate change is real and making our climate increasingly unstable and my message is deal with this fact and find ways to stop making it worst and adapt to climate change by becoming more locally resilient.
I fully support \”Black People\” respecting yourselves, and learning from your elders. I, coming from the UK cannot tell you and will not tell you how to best live in…

Yes Black People, read, learn and understand: http://www.depopulation.newworldorderuniversity.com/Wordpress/?p=136

This global warming scam is about DEPOPULATION. Yes, DEPOPULATION. The way the scam works is as follows:-

    1) The elites via bodies like the UN (includes governments of the UK, USA, China, Russia, Germany etc.), secretly run geoengineering programs (chemtrails) designed to block out the sun. These programs are a real universal phenomena and are no longer in the realm of conspiracy theory. This contributes to worldwide weather anomalies including hurricanes, droughts and floodings;

    2) They also fake up stats produced by scientists on their payroll to make us believe that is is us, via our day to day living, who are killing the earth.

    3) Once we believe that we are the problem, the next step is to reduce our numbers as everything we do, does produce energy and ‘heats up’ the earth.

DO NOT DIG YOUR OWN GRAVES FOR THEM, REFUSE TO CO-OPERATE WITH THIS SCAM.

The so called first world counties considered themselves superior in all matters and can’t solve the problems they created. Leave Dominica alone. We are not the contributors.

If theses groups and organizations can financially help our small island, they are more than welcome. But if they want to doped us in their new found religion, that is Global Warming, best they remain in their industrialized countries like U.S.A Australia England etc and go China India and the rest to persuade them to follow their ism .I dont know if they want us to go back in the 1930s where people used donkeys to travel and rowed boats from Colihaut to Roseau, dry wood 4 cooking and smoked the meat for preservation.
Man did not create earth and man cannot destroy it.The One who did said.
    ” While the earth remains,
    Seedtime and harvest.
    Cold and heat,”
    Winter and summer,
    And day and night,
    Shall not cease.”…Genesis 8;22

He got the whole world in His Hands.

    Amen and amen

Thank heavens that most people reading posts on DNO, know for sure that you are Steve.

You will see that the Swedish Government accepts that Chemtrails are real and causing horrible damage to their country. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D4YbzYWWd0Q

Every time these organizations come to developing countries under the guise of “AID” of any kind they leave us worse off than before. Any organization operating on a global scale has an agenda,
who is more equipped to guide us through a transition (supposedly the economic & social break down of society as we know it) than our elders. They know what plants are food and what plants are medicine. They know how to live off of the land in abundance. They know how to deliver and raise strong unvaccinated children. We have much to learn from ourselves before entertaining outside influence. Respect yourselves Black People.
