A pile up of garbage near two schools in Roseau has raised concerns among residents in the capital.
Apparently, the garbage on the street was left after Community Day of Service last Friday, however by Tuesday morning, it remained uncollected.
A concerned resident told DNO that the uncollected garbage is a huge eyesore for everyone.
To make matter worse, a cruise ship made an inaugural visit to Dominica on Monday and knowing this, the concerned resident said he made numerous calls to have the garbage collected, but it was to no avail.
He said numerous tourists were seen taking photos of the garbage on Monday.
“It is sickening,” the resident said.
DNO can now confirm that the garbage has been collected.
DNO was told that the areas were all cleared by Tuesday.
Duminicans let’s be real. You all always quick to jump and talk nonsense for everything and make fools of yourselves. But I’m looking at those pics and majority of the things I see should not have been dumped there. Instead they should have been taken straight to the dump site in Fond Cole not on the side of the road. Allu to nasty then want people to clean up for you all
In the New Testament we read and understand that demons love and live in dirty places. Just recently there was a clean-up day in Dominica; What happened already?
Two big cruise ships in port today. Thousand of passengers have to trek on foot from the port to town along that dreadful stretch through Pottersville to meet a sight like this. Wonderful, wonderful planning mr. Tonge.
I remember when we had garbage trucks…where are they now?
This falls under the Mayor’s jurisdiction. A department of her office should have ensured that the garbage was taken away the following day.
Probably those who were assigned this job were too tired. Making it worst, an unscheduled tourist boat arrived. These people will assume that Roseau always looks like that. They will take pictures of the garbage and show it to their contemporaries when they return to their home. This obviously gave Dominica, Roseau for that matter a bad name. What explanation could be given to them that those responsible failed to do their job.
Poor Dominica and Roseau getting a bad rap due to some people’s negligence. All the same it should not have occurred. Do not worry. Dominica will survive. So will Roseau.
Sewo is over, visitors returned to their country, things are back to normal, Skerrit had them see what they want to see
Shame on you skirooo, how do we say we love the nature Isle and we don’t have money to clean our town but have money to give Haiti to clean up after hurricane shame, shame time will tell
Do papa skirooo seen through the town ,do papa skirooo walk around town opposite, maybe drive..
Papa Skirooo not here my boy. He was in Hongkong till ythis morning and now Bangkok according to what I hear, living the high life and promoting the sale of our passports with his pal Mano. You don’t expect him to walk the smelly streets of Roseau do you? It may dirty his fancy shoes.
Correction: for Roseau.
Her Worship the Mayor is the very first Mayor to receive an actual salary, all prior Persons holding that position got a stipend…And still she does nothing foe Roseau.
the tourist season is opened the authorities of discovered dominica came on the bay front on the first day of the cruised ship in port and monitored the taxi drivers and passed rules frighten to take your I.D if they do not complied but they a not seeing the other things which is on sightly the road leading to morne bruce to many derilex vehicles on the road side the drains and side walks needs attention in the city please lets set a day and cleaned up the city and tourist site lets get the relevant persons to get reed of this old vehicles lets start now lets maintained hour name as the nature island and not land of rubbish .
They know, They like it so.
A garbage government, a garbage country period.
Now all you suppose to give the Mayor fire, this is OUR and everyone’s business! Not little domestic disputes that doesn’t concern you all!
I’m embarrassed….
Yes of Dominicans. Allu to nasty
Idiots why not educate yourselves is it the government that forced the stupid people who placed the rubbish there to do that. Dominicans need to take responsibility you guys are barking at the wrong tree.
Clean your own environment. otherwise shut the hell up.sacra tonnere
Wonderful tourist sight!
It’s absolutely breathe taking if I have to say the least. Should have been taken with an HD Camera.
Is roseau alone? Come portsmouth and you will see, but the people are not saying a word, Labour they Labour ,
Look at a road thats being fixed in portsmouth , the one by the benjamin park , It is over two years now and it dont know when it is going to be completed, ,but again ,anything goes in portsmouth , no wonder we are over sixty years voting one same party ,and still proud of no development ,Oh fools,
but the PM say on his Facebook page that Rodney street is renovated and completed. oh on that same Rodney street garbage at all points, doh talk about by the by the church, school and cemetery on that street. just like the land-fill. but de country nice boy. we love our AM SORRY NO PM LOL. as the two famous cry in possie goes MODA …….. labourrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
OMG we have a cruise ship and when our visitors level people will blame skerrit, the blame is on the minister of tourism next time take your complaints to him to clear the rubbish in Roseau.
The garbage bin, the poubelle stops at Skerrit’s desk. Pls. don’t make excuses for mister because nothing moves without his say so.
Is it because of a cruise ship you are concerned? Go to Pottersville and imagine how residents live under those conditions. Certain situations call for local intervention.
Minister Tonge way to concern about his celebrity life that hes not bothered at all about anything..
Sound jealous, jilted lover?
This just reflect the state of affairs in Dominica. Acceptable accumulation of garbage through all walks of society.
And they Tonge will come on the airwaves and talk a whole lotta nonsense about everything else. Except the answers to why Dominica does not inspire tourists is right under his nose and he does not smell it.
I referred to Government-speak in another post. They love to read off speeches written by other people and as soon as they are finished reading them, it is business as usual.
Call Her Worship the Mayor
Is that Virgin Lane ?
Doesn’t look so virgin anymore, does it?
So sad how this once loving country has become, our kids and citizens are being abused.
Who will bell the cat? Who is responsible? You see, in Dominica no individual wants to take responsibility when a simple call can get the problem solved. especially when we just finished chanting “strengthening our commitment to nation building” Talk, talk and more……. talk. Where is the city council, where is solid waste, where is ministry of Public Works, where are the school principals to hustle all of the above. Where is the Parl Rep.?Where is the Minister of Tourism?Where is Mr. Bardouille? We know even if the concerned citizen calls, none of the above will take him/her on. I would like to see the pictures of the tourists.
THE WHOLE OF ROSEAU LOOKS LIKE A THRIFT SHOP.
Thrift shop is too kind a word. It looks and smells like a dung heap.
Hmmmmm…..we have to admit that we are living in a failed state. Haiti comes to mind anyone? Now that all the week and good times over it’s back to reality.
Always Assertive!
I just hear the minister of Tourism saying His Ministry is going to do everything to make the Cruise Tourists stay enjoyable.
Did He intend the garbage to be enjoyable to see & smell?
Don’t these people live and work in Roseau?
Are they being driven around in air conditioned cars with tinted windows?
Yes!
Too many fetes, making it almost impossible for garbage trucks & crews do their work. Madame Mayor do your work, you are supposed to govern this town and not goverment Ministers or party organizers.
