UPDATE: Uncollected garbage causes concern in Roseau

The garbage has been on the street since Friday
The garbage has been on the street since Friday

A pile up of garbage near two schools in Roseau has raised concerns among residents in the capital.

Apparently, the garbage on the street was left after Community Day of Service last Friday, however by Tuesday morning, it remained uncollected.

A concerned resident told DNO that the uncollected garbage is a huge eyesore for everyone.

To make matter worse, a cruise ship made an inaugural visit to Dominica on Monday and knowing this, the concerned resident said he made numerous calls to have the garbage collected, but it was to no avail.

He said numerous tourists were seen taking photos of the garbage on Monday.

“It is sickening,” the resident said.

DNO can now confirm that the garbage has been collected.

DNO was told that the areas were all cleared by Tuesday.

Duminicans let’s be real. You all always quick to jump and talk nonsense for everything and make fools of yourselves. But I’m looking at those pics and majority of the things I see should not have been dumped there. Instead they should have been taken straight to the dump site in Fond Cole not on the side of the road. Allu to nasty then want people to clean up for you all

In the New Testament we read and understand that demons love and live in dirty places. Just recently there was a clean-up day in Dominica; What happened already?

Two big cruise ships in port today. Thousand of passengers have to trek on foot from the port to town along that dreadful stretch through Pottersville to meet a sight like this. Wonderful, wonderful planning mr. Tonge.

This falls under the Mayor’s jurisdiction. A department of her office should have ensured that the garbage was taken away the following day.
Probably those who were assigned this job were too tired. Making it worst, an unscheduled tourist boat arrived. These people will assume that Roseau always looks like that. They will take pictures of the garbage and show it to their contemporaries when they return to their home. This obviously gave Dominica, Roseau for that matter a bad name. What explanation could be given to them that those responsible failed to do their job.
Poor Dominica and Roseau getting a bad rap due to some people’s negligence. All the same it should not have occurred. Do not worry. Dominica will survive. So will Roseau.

Is it because of a cruise ship you are concerned? Go to Pottersville and imagine how residents live under those conditions. Certain situations call for local intervention.

And they Tonge will come on the airwaves and talk a whole lotta nonsense about everything else. Except the answers to why Dominica does not inspire tourists is right under his nose and he does not smell it.

I referred to Government-speak in another post. They love to read off speeches written by other people and as soon as they are finished reading them, it is business as usual.

Who will bell the cat? Who is responsible? You see, in Dominica no individual wants to take responsibility when a simple call can get the problem solved. especially when we just finished chanting “strengthening our commitment to nation building” Talk, talk and more……. talk. Where is the city council, where is solid waste, where is ministry of Public Works, where are the school principals to hustle all of the above. Where is the Parl Rep.?Where is the Minister of Tourism?Where is Mr. Bardouille? We know even if the concerned citizen calls, none of the above will take him/her on. I would like to see the pictures of the tourists.

I just hear the minister of Tourism saying His Ministry is going to do everything to make the Cruise Tourists stay enjoyable.

Did He intend the garbage to be enjoyable to see & smell?
Don’t these people live and work in Roseau?
Are they being driven around in air conditioned cars with tinted windows?

Too many fetes, making it almost impossible for garbage trucks & crews do their work. Madame Mayor do your work, you are supposed to govern this town and not goverment Ministers or party organizers.
