The Meteorological Office here has cautioned Dominicans to remain alert as heavy rainfall continues to lash the island.
Several communities are still dealing with the impact of landslides and flooding, after heavy rains over the past few days.
Three families had to evacuate their homes in Petite Soufriere yesterday because of landslides and more than seven landslides were reported in Castle Bruce.
Senior Met Officer Sheryl Leblanc has warned that once rainfall continues, more land slippage will occur as soils are saturated, and rivers will overflow their banks.
An upper level trough has been causing unstable weather across the Caribbean, and it may move away from the region before the end of the week, she said.
“This is just a forecast; if it sticks around, then we will continue to experience pockets of showers and thunderstorm. The general public and residents should remain alert. If you are living close to a river or near an area which is prone to landslide, please be vigilant,” Leblanc said Tuesday night.
Up until Tuesday, Public works operators were clearing up landslides in Castle Bruce, Goodhope and San Sauveur, among other areas.
In May 2010, three people were killed in San Sauveur after a landslide completely covered their home.
There’s much more behind the grant. Ever wonder why there’s so many Chinese here? This is part of the deal in all the Caribbean countries. China is over populated so the gov’t’s must take them in. China sends them off with enough money to start businesses in our poor little islands.
Good Hope Mopo San Sauveur and Petite Soufriere were also badly damaged no electricity, water and one death
Talk talk talk put all political comments aside this is a country wide disaster that has affected everyone.Let us organize now to rebuild
I hope you are ok in Castle Bruce that stupid new road they cut is makeing poor peoples houses fall down! I wounder if the Gov. will give them new ones? Or will they ask the homo countries to help? You gotta take the good with the bad my friends.
everything is the government …look for u guys self what the hell the government have to do with they help in all ways they can why u guys can just say thankz for what the doin…..dominican really need god in dah life…no they blamin it on the chinese
They talk bout 7 landslides in castle bruce but it wAs more like 200 in laplaine area
I don’t understand some people…they really putting unrelated stuff that make NO SENSE at all. WHAT chines have to do with mother nature? Even if they build they greatest road for ya’ll and FATHER GOD have another plan there is nothing humans can do so stop making dumb comments and let nature take its tole…
God Bless DNO, If it were not for DNO, we would not have known that Dominica created so many foolish people. Or maybe I missing something. Must everything be attributed to something totally unrelated? The comments are not even lets say sarcastic or funny or serious, I mean just totally out of this world. Lets just say that some aliens invaded DNO and post these silly stupid idiotic comments under every story. It has to be.
Take a Hike Sunshine

God bless beautiful Dominica.
10,000 chinamen can’t be wrong afterall!Smart they smart.
people need to take their time while driving and rain is fallin lol
The most important element on earth is water;and the most distructive element on earth is water.Dominica have an aboundance of such.Unusual global climate visiting us with an over aboundance of water, with our kind of gabage disposal, throwing things where the eyes will not see, in all little wavin etc.blocking the 365 little river beds, and when water come and have to go to the see with their passage block, what you expect. We know how important a dot is in computer,we doing things in Dominica disregarding the little details hoping that it will not expose our lack there off(whatever it is).We should start to pay a little more attention in the way we do things in Dominica. When the rain fall it falls on all of us , when it floods it affects us all. It’s God’s way of telling us if we work together we can make things better.Dominica is us all.
What about other areas. Like Soufriere/scottshead
ALL I WANT IS ALL MY FELLOW DOMINICAN TO VENTURE SAFELY DON’T GO OUTSIDE IF U DON’T HAVE TO KEEP THE LITTLE INDOORS AND BE SAFE.MOTHER NATURE IS IN CONTROL
i just came back from da people keep your heads up an help where you can i am in st.thomas we had some rain but not like da.
truth and justice are u from portsmouth bottom zizack
@ Jillian
You make me smile. No I am not from Portsmouth whatsoever. Place me from Roseau. At present I reside in Toronto. Today, we had our share of as the saying, “old man winter.” Snow finally fell but it is considered “wet snow” which means that it will soon melt due to the mild temperature. As broadcasted on the news, Toronto was the last Province which had snow. All others had snow earlier. How lucky could we be for now.
Yesterday rain fell all day with high winds. It is now forecasted that tomorrow we will have rain.
At least, you are in a warm climate. The weather forecast for Toronto is that we will have a late winter but a messy one ahead. God help us too. Those wintry months could be bad.
Wherever we reside, we cannot get away from bad weather of any nature. We can only hope for the best, pray and ask God to assist us. God bless!
allu want to talk about flooding when those nasty dominicans when they doh want a fridge or a stove is in the rarvines they throwing it!hush allu mouth is we dominicans that making the country like that.we too like to blame other people for our own doing!!!!
sinse it was uwp that build the wall under the cliff labour should as worker what was the plan befor they let the chine build the olympic pool.
AND SO WE BROUGHT IN THE CHINESE EXPERTS … PAYING THEM GOOD MONEY AND FOR WHAT? UNDER THE CLIFF LOOKING LIKE A RIVER WE BOY!!
RAIN JUST START SO WATCH OUT PEOPLE AND TAKE CARE ON THOSE ROADS. THEY MAY BE RESURFACED BUT NOT WATERPROOF!!
Anonymous, is it Dominica paying the Chinese or the Chinese government paying them? Whose money is it anyway? Surely you should know.
@ Justice and Truth
If it is a loan then its Dominica paying for it and paying the Chinese to do the work as well.
it’s a grant we got….
Well that just goes to show we need to be strategic as to how a proper drainage system can be developed here… Amidst the infrastructural development I hope they are brainstorming of the measures that need to be taken to avoid (1) damage to the road (2) mass flooding when we experience heavy rainfall and (3) more effective responses to the landslides in heavy trafficked areas….
Send more rain… why can’t we see that God is sending a message to us. So much evil and wrong doing going on in this Country of ours. Yet we sit here and write a bunch of crap! Pray people Pray Dominica needs deliverance. Now attack the messenger.
you stupid fool take care you make people think is me Joan writing this crap..my name is joan too but i am not a stupid one like you..fooooollllll
@ supersaver
Do not take offense. Do all those who comment on this Website know you?
Thou shall not call thy brother a fool the bible say so. Now continue to attack the messenger. I am independent individual, I depend on no hand outs….. I work hard for everything I have and want. I am not going to sit here and defend individuals that continue to increase their wealth why our country is going down the tubes. Open your eyes.. go read a book or do something productive for your country…
Damn idiot @ joan
It takes an Idiot to know one. You people are so gullible…. continue to wallow in ignorance
You are so stupid that it is not even funny. You know of evil because you practice it. Being so stupid says it all.
Let your blit fall on you and you only and not entire Dominica family. Be careful what you wish for, for the Lord God is not a sleeping one.
I am happy to know that you know that God is not asleep……he is definitely awake. Go read a your bible if you do not have one… go to a church and pray. Pray for your country…. Open your eyes.
Damn people…no one has any useful information about damages or repairs? There is some serious conditions here and all you can do is be rude to each other?
Yes DA people we can all recognize simple things like the importance of drainage for our roads and we know our climate and topography. How much or if any time do the Chinese contractors take to study or ask the locals about that? I agree with the individual who noted that we would be better served if proper engineering practices were followed in order to have a few quality roads rather than merely resurface significant portions of the roads resulting in lack of durability. These problems can only be alleviated when there is an appropriate mandatory level of competency for those approved to do the job! It should not be just take what you get! Government see to it that these road projects are done right so that future monies can be used for other projects like job creation: yes we tired of the free fish, give us the fishing rod so we can catch what kind and how much fish we want!
You all stop blaming it on the chinese and the government when all over the world we are having floods, dew to the depleting of the Ozone layer and climate changes. Don’t America have good engineers ? why thousands of houses, bridges and roads are being destroyed by floods. Please read you all bible about the last days, and stop talking shit.
@ Spy
“Due”
You Spy fail to understand the importance of the matter. There is no drainage system built on that road which would allow excess water to run off the roads. Also the decision to merely resurface the roads rather than build a solid foundation then place the surface is a poor one at best. The level of rainfall we get in Dominica the roads will not last. It is a problem that’s been there for years with the different government failing to see to it that the job of repairing the roads are done to appropriate standards. The Chinese’s engineers should know this valuable information so that they will be cognisant to implement proper drainage for the roads especially in obvious place like under cliff. Who is responsible for all this? I hope you get my drift Spy. Oh you would be better served if you spend the time reading your bible rather thinking of shit to reply. You will benefit from some divine intervention so you will understand accountability!
They really need to do something about that Ravine Cork. If the hole is too small widen it.
Thanks to DNO for posting this information that Dominicans worldwide could view.
I am deeply saddened that there is yet more flooding in Dominica. My first thought was, “Poor Dominica; not again especially the people of Canefield and Massacre in mind!” God help!
The reason for the flooding is due to the low-lying areas which are susceptible to flooding. Those closer to the sea and rivers will experience this.
Today in Toronto it poured rain as the saying. The rain did not cease all day and with high winds. It was a sort of a storm. It makes us wonder what is happening weather-wise. Thank God there was no thunder and lightning which is also not unusual even in winter. However, we do say, at least some of us who do not ski and skate, better rain than snow.
We do get some tropical weather surprises in winter which depends on the temperature. This is November when we are supposed to get snow except for the mild weather.
When I was a child my father told me that there was a bad hurricane in DA in November some years ago long before hurricane David, the latter which was the next bad hurricane since then. He related his and my mother’s experience, young and newly married, during a hurricane and how someone assisted him to barricade the windows and doors. They were fortunate to survive this bad hurricane. I suppose it is not unusual that such will occur in November.
I pray that the rain and water will subside and that those areas will soon return to normal.
Pray Dominicans, pray! Praying for you too. God bless you and protect you.
To questionable. Why do u all f***ing people act soo retarded. Come on common sense it rains heavy it will flood. I live in florida and with all them nice roads it have once strong rain or even a lil rain fall it floods. So stop blaming the Chinese who build the road. At leat Dominica moving somewhere. Thats why people like you all aint going no where to like to bring down the own country. Pure HATERS
Yes man i like that…hand it too them.
U KNOW THESE FOLKS ARE JUST PURE EVEIL…
EVIL
@ Us
You need to think beyond and backwards as well. What has been occurring in Dominica never occurred previously. Never in my lifetime while residing in DA there were such floods. I (we) never heard of them. The rivers as Layou River would overflow but not what DA has been experiencing in recent months to today. This is cause to make us think and conclude, whether right or wrong that the weather pattern has definitely changed. This is not only in DA but in the entire world.
We could speculate that what is written in Holy Scriptures is coming to pass. Rest assured, wherever we reside there will be more disasters.
Residing in Toronto, I read in yesterday’s newspaper there was an earthquake of approximately 4.3 in a suburb of Toronto which resulted in a loud noise.
It was also stated that Canada will get “a big one” as it is speculated for California. This may occur in British Columbia, a Province of Canada in the Pacific. We are not certain.
Last year Toronto had an earthquake of 5.0. This year, in summer there was a smaller earthquake. I felt both. This was not the only one since I am residing in Toronto and the area where I reside. It must be the 5th one. The 5.0 was the worst one and it was scary. One was in the early evening; another in the early morning and the others in early afternoon. I pray we do not have anymore but who knows? We can conclude that this is part of life.
Floods and accidents occur worldwide. Last year in an area in Quebec, Canada a man, his wife and two daughters were killed. They were viewing a hockey game, at least the father. The earth underneath the home caved in and swallowed their home. They all perished. It was so sad to hear and read about.
Do not think it is only in DA floods and negligence occur. DA is no worst than those progressive countries.
Only our faith, genuine worship and prayers, performing loving acts of generosity and mercy to others as needed which may assist us and strengthen us when the inevitable occurs. Confidence in the Lord. Worldwide, we are all in it one way or the other.
Thanks to DNO for posting this information that Dominicans worldwide could view.

This was not written by Anonymous but by me, Truth and Justice. I do believe an error occurred. There was a problem with my Internet Provider.
When I tried to send my comment to DNO, it did not register on DNO’s Website. I thought that something was wrong. I tried again to send it and received the message “Duplicate” – words to that effect.”
Last evening I telephoned the Provider’s technician; was on the phone for approximately an hour. The technician went through their system and mine and corrected the error.
Later in the evening, I re-sent it and it was accepted as coming from me. Somehow, probably the first time it was posted as if Anonymous sent it but it was an error. I do not know how this occurred. As previously stated, it may have been the fault of my Internet Provider.
This is my first comment ever on DNO (no round of applause needed).
I just have to say that every piece of news that comes out these days has got a bunch of comments in relation to these :
1. How small- minded/ ignorant Dominicans are (mind you, the person who says that IS a Dominican)
2. Something to do with the Government placing too much money in places that apparently has no need for such money ( Government does not cause floods, nature does. And if you have a better plan as to how to use the money then by God, run for Prime Minister or President in the next election or w/e IDGAF. No one in the big office gives a flying beep about your OH-so-educational-comment about politics and the economy.)
3. Something completely and abosolutely unrelated to the story being presented. Por ejemplo – “soucoyahs” (hopefully I spelt that somewhat right)
4. Something to do with the Chinese and how incompetent they are. (if you don’t like what they’ve done, report it to someone who can actually DO something about it).
Too tired to continue….
THANK YOU FOR THIS GOOD COMMENT. THESE PEOPLE ARE JUST PURE NUTHEADS.
I have learnt from young that “freeness brings worriness”
I know canefield very well….Google Bristol avon gorge, or Wikipedia A4 road(England. We had rock slide but not like you have in canefield that is until the council build a canopy across the motor way 20 years ago. It still works to this day, scroll down and click on the photo: (A4 passing under the Clifton Suspension Bridge). you will see the cliff and the canopy and tell me you are having problem with rock slide. LOL. Tell this to your P/rep.
Merry Chrismas to my girl Vincia in Portters
It’s amazing how dominicans speak! Especially you “TINY”….did u even think before u speak? I am really wondering! If is one blessing we surely need in dominica is to get out from that “LOW MENTALITY”..and speak like ppl that have brains!
i wud never use this play as an airport again.this should be a cruise port and race track.i think when a plan drop there might have a big hold waiting to swallow the aircraft
we always criticize when we cannot do any better.
Why is there traffic in flood waters in Ravine Cock? SMH..
Check where the water reaching the vehicle tyres. U call that flood?
the first pic is where?
@ Thomas IN THE DAM SEA LOL LOL
i suspect you can write but cant read
they never change the 2 feet colverts and put in 4 feet ones,we just start to get floods because there is GLOBAL WARMING but all we do is talk and do not put things in place or improve on things. DO WE REALLY HAVE ENGINEERS BECAUSE WE GETTING NEW ROADS BUT WHEN THE NEW BIG TRUCKS MEET THEY HAVE PROBLEMS TO PASS EACH OTHER.
BE REAL 2 FT OR 4FT CULVERTS , I WAS SURPRISED WHEN I WENT TO TOWN SO MUCH WATER AT RAVINE CORQUE, IN THE SPACE OF HALF AN HOUR I PASSED BACK THERE WAS NO WATER , THE OUTLETS ON THE WALL ARE FUNCTIONING EXCELLENT,
@ aye dominique….u must be uneducated to make such a comment. do on to others as you’d have them do on to u. where is ur heart. you are an idiot
hey like i said before every other country has had their fair share of climate change and unbelievable natural disasters,so don’t expect dominica to be out of the loop,we live and learn new happenings everyday people, just pray for guidance and goodness, and most of all no lost of lives.
Why Dominicans?
its our Island, when will enough be too much. Every time we choose to blame someone else…not realizing the damage is already done. there are two sets of people the ‘nasty n evil’ or ‘clean n godly’
The drainage problem is simply….Dominicans too damn nasty. All the drains are like land fields with rubbish. We need to take responsibility of our own actions.
Shut up Dominica is a developing, up and coming country…speak for yourself and not for others.
It is not just that the people are nasty but there are no drains. Take a walk along the country areas. There are no drains. The water does what it wants.
All the obeah being washed away
ok i see way i getting the thumbs down…………..should have said 1 quarter right? it makes more sense?………cause 100 million spent only on resurfacing ………we should have spend the total on a quarter of the west coast highway and have a nice piece of road to enjoy….the other 3 quarters would have to wait…… then again 10 passports could take are of that….right? just goes to show passports aren’t being sold as we think….
ok people just joking on the passport…..we have thing….passport sales cannot cover all our expenses…..
was gonna correct my errors …..no need too right….
Tiny…u never cease to rock me!! You are my favourite here (after me, of course)!
Under the canefield cliff was a mess. Lots of different river-like waterfalls, there were no drains alongside the newly paved road and it appears that is a disaster in the making with landslides, mudslides, and backed up water.
This is what they should rejoice about….they drowning in their own country but wants to take care of St. Lucia
You still stuck on St Lucia…seems like the results in St Lucia hurting you man
hope everyone is ok an there were no casualties
Wow…that is so sad! Sigh! I hope no one gets hurt under the cliff and I hope that the landslides are cleared as soon as possible!
Our roads are always going to have landslides when heavy rains aint nothing no one can do bout that. Our terrain and constant rainfall is just part of life in d/a.For those who wanna complain maybe u guys should move to Antigua no landslides there.
global warming or what?so many floods and landslides in one year.imagine a small flat island like anguilla have severe floods with some places cut off.
a little drizzle and antigua flooding LOL
More pics please, what about the canefield airport, heard it’s flooding again.
First time in history I see canefield flooding like that. smh. Now i’m asking myself are the Chinese doing a good job?
Man we just have to hold tight, and do what we can when the time permit, this is unusual rainfall, it will be agood exercise to straighten up this place. At least PWC should get some employment to help the families in front of this Christmas. No politics in that one there.
My lovely country Dominica. I pray that everything will go well and no one gets hurt.
AMEN NY NY 10025
this is why you guys should have spent the 100 million to renovate/improve/repair half the length of the west coast road instead of spending the total sum to simply TO RESURFACE………. waste of money
better drainage extending the roads by grading cliffs or using dynamite ….then clearing away of the roads would be easier..during a landslide
So right! I don’t know how this planning folks think. No foresight, no vision and no real solutions.
we didnot spend any money on the surfacing…it was a gift
Rush and Tumpkins, sintra roads were all gift yet they stood the test of time.
I AGREE WITH YOU 10000000 TIMES!!! THE DRAINAGE IS POOR! THE CHINESE JUST DOING CRAP!~ THE WATER GOING UNDERNEATH THE RESURFACE RUBBISH AND CAUSING DAMAGE TO IT! THIS GOVERNMENT IS JUST DOING STUFF THAT WILL LAST FOR THE 5 YEARSS THEY IN OFFICE…..THEIR POLICY IS NOT TO TEACH US TO FISH BUT TO GIVE US FISH EVERY TIME WE NEED!!
!9 Years Old? you sound like 9 months old. Go and get you nappy changed and grow up!!
U WELL HUNGRY SO EAT UR DAM FISH
