A tropical storm warning has been issued for Dominica and residents have been urged to make all necessary preparations as the island braces for the passage of Tropical Storm Ernesto.
“Dominicans need to be on the alert and take all the necessary precautionary measures to save life and property,” Senior Met Officer Fitzroy Pascal said on state-owned DBS Radio.
His views were further echoed by acting Disaster Preparedness Coordinator, Don Corriette who warns of possible “flash flooding and falling rocks.”
“We know the terrain in Dominica and we are asking people to remain vigilant for possible flash flooding and rock falling… continue to exercise extreme caution,” Corriette asserted.
Water company, Dominica Water and Sewage Co (DOWASCO), has called on residents to ensure they have sufficient drinking water in store. PRO Edward Registe said the company is “ready and prepared for anything.”
At 5 pm, Tropical Storm Ernesto was located about 295 miles east of the Windward Islands.
According to the Met Office Ernesto is moving towards the west near 22 mph with maximum sustained winds near 50 mph with higher gusts.
Some slight strengthening is forecast during the next 48 hours.
On the forecast track, this system is expected to begin affecting the area by late tonight or early Friday.
So, like, how comes when people pray for storms not to hit, they still hit? You think people in the islands the storm WILL hit aren’t praying? What, you just have to throw up some more holy water? And what about those uninhabited islands that get hit? Should we station a priest there (perhaps with some children) to protect it?
Do you religious fanatics ever think about what you do rationally? Ever? A storm is just a natural disaster. We get them EVERY YEAR. At the same damn time. And yet you STILL see each one as a sign. SMH. Just prepare yourselves as best you can and leave it at that. Shesh, d/cans.
My prayers for Gods safety goes out to each and ev eryone in Dominica. Be on the alert and have hope that all will be well.

I wish to urge all civic minded Dominicans to ensure that they are prepared for the passage of Tropical Storm Ernesto. Ensure that you have a personal or familyt disaster. ensure you have emergency supplies including medicines. ensure all animals are well protected. ensure that you do last minute checks on your roof, windows, doors ar secure, and in the aftermath, please volunteer to assist with the clean up remember it is our country… reds, greens, blues, yellows… all political parties, all religions, everybody… I pray we are spared the fury of the storm, but, reality is reality, so PLEASE BE PREPARED!!!
God Bless the country & the people …

1 haily Mary……2 our father
AMEN
…and nothing happens. Ah, the power of prayer.
We don’t think this will be too bad as the winds are not that high! Yes, there could be plenty of rain and gusts of wind. The storm is not well organized and will not become a hurricane at the moment. The system will hit in the south St. Vincent, St. Lucia more than the West and it will be the after winds that will affect us more! We need to watch the system that is coming behind. It is always good to be prepared and stay safe. Don’t go out if it is not necessary!
This is no longer depression #5 its now tropical storm ERNESTO !!
