UWP speaks on airport equipment fire

Linton said the results of an investigation are being awaited

Political Leader of the United Workers Party (UWP) Lennox Linton says he condemns all forms of violence, vandalism and disruption of lives.

Linton’s remarks come in light of a suspected arson which destroyed a communicaton tower servicing the Douglas-Charles Airport.

Speaking at press conference at the Prevost Cinemal on Thursday morning, Linton said the incident is of grave concern to the UWP.

“There are a couple of matters that have surfaced in recent times that is of grave concern to us,” he said. “We don’t know what exactly what has happened, we are hearing opinions from the government side and their suggestions of arson. We would want to await the results of a complete investigation by the authorities before we address this matter in a more comprehensive way.”

He said the UWP will not stand any form of violence and vandalism

“We do not stand for violence, we do not stand for the destruction of property, or for the disruption of lives in any way shape or form,” he stated. “And to the extent that this development could have been an act of vandalism, or any other such thing, we totally and absolutely condemn it without reservation.”

Reports indicate a communication tower was destroyed. Cost stands at $2-million.

Hope the perpetrators are found and dealt with judiciously. The people involved couldhave done untold damage to Dominica if anything had gone wrong with an airplane. And for what? people’s right to vote for who they want?

May eligible resident or overseas voters, who are actively involved in Dominica directly or indirectly, cast their democratic votes on Monday. Also, may everyone accept the results of that democratic voting process. And may the results be so resounding that it could hardly be due to any feared “bribed” voter.

    Amen

Hmmm, there is something strange about that fire. I listen to how Skeritt spoke about it on his plateform and I am not sure if it is was just me but it sounded like he knows much more than he is saying. he said last night ” Now it is ME Roosvekt Skeritt who has to go find 2 million dollars to repair the equipments”. he did not say the DLP or DASPA or the Minister incharge of ports. He said ME as he usually do. But moode, voice and manner was not genuine when he said it. Then he contiued by saying the 2 million dollars can fix roads, pay scholarships, build houses for the OLD PEOPLE. Again trying to make people feel sorry since he mentioned old people. That is his KEY words “OLD PEOPLE” who don’t feel sorry for old poor people, so everytime he mentioned that group, people will think he really cares but he don;t, he is using it to have we the people to feel sorry and say how muh he cares and help them. That is not genuine and people are begining to see right through Skeritt. The thing is Skeritt knows the investigation results will not come out before the Elections.

Yes Mr. Linton I am in agreement with you ,wait for the outcome of the investigation. You were vindicated and cleared from the frame up re the e-mail leaks from the IPO and by God’s grace he shall preserve you from this one…. they have all the tendencies of Papa Doc , Baby Doc, Eric Gairy Forbes Burnham and the likes who were evil Megalomaniacs . When the people are faced with situations like this ,it is time for peoples POWER11111

    December 4, 2014

Bardouille is political…How can YOU have millions of dollars worth of equipment unsecured…especially such important equipment….stop blaming others for your incompetence….You have overrun the airport with security personnel and leave the equipment unsecured? Then blame others.
I went to the airport today and that extra security is so absurd…But when I entered the terminal area and saw how empty and dead the airport was…I realized that the security personnel really had little work to do…That could never be possible if for instance we had plane loads of persons coming on on 747 for instance…
BUT CHANGE IS A MUST …..HOW LONG….NOT LONG

All smokescreen! The are protecting the gate but conveniently forget to protect vital equipment. Give me a break. What utter nonsense or perhaps incompetence.

We are not used to these kinds of activities in Dominica. This is a new brand of violent politics that has been introduced to us. Did you hear them say BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY. How can this be democracy. It is written that the voice of the people is the voice of god. In a democracy majority rules. Trying to force your way into power is not democratic.

    December 4, 2014

I cannot sit in the Diaspora and make a determination as to which party(supporters) would have committed such an act to our airport, even if I can draw a conclusion. But I can surmise by asking who can benefit from this: You Follow. The security at the airport must have been really relaxed if not inept for (some) perpetrator to enter in an area which contains such sensitive material – which should have been restricted, yet- considering the current situation concerning and the presence of the Dominica Police Force at the airport: You Follow. It has been a recent history in Dominica where arsonists have confessed and the entire judicial process failed: You Follow. Whether they had the capacity to investigate, of they just simply chose not to because it was-You Follow.

I would not put it pass anyone (supporter) of Labour to have done this in lieu of the fact that Linton made a declaration to demonstrate at the airport; the radar would then be pointed at UWP with the intention to discredit him and Team Dominica. Clearly they were not taken too seriously because the current government had the resources to fund performers, and billboards, believing they could outperform UWP and continue the historical trajectory of doing something just before election -sewoing our people with the expectation that history would repeat itself. I do believe that Dominicans has woken up and their voting will no longer be as a result what they can get immediately, but the future of their children.

Intelligent response; wait until a thorough investigation is completed on matter before jumping to conclusion.
According to skeritt he already knows who involved.
You guys talking about leadership and who went to university.
Remember the commissioner of police already knew there was a homicide in Portsmouth station. Up to now no one has been charged.
    Change cannot come soon enough.

Skeritt spared to time to diplomatically accused the UWP for the fire at the communication tower. I am surprised no picture of the damages has surfaced in twenty four hours. Skeritt told us the damages will amount to $2 million dollars. According to Bardouille, the damages will cost $1 million dollars. Had the demonstration taken place on Wednesday, I am sure the pictures of Mr. Linton and Mr. Martin would be shown all over Dominica as conspirators.

Mr. Linton, since we do not have a Gov’t in office now, I think you should call in for assistance from the U.S Gov’t so the F.B.I could come down today (before the election) to investigate and discover the true perpatrators of this crime. Let the chips fall where they may!

Dominicans are some real real real idiots sometimes. I mean, these leaders telling me that for the sake of the country they cannot come together and make a joint statement, then shake hands to say look, this is how things should be. People can agree to disagree and put the hate behind them. Everybody wants the best for dominica. I dont think any politician on the island wants bad for dominica, contrary to many beliefs. I have never voted but will be this time around. I am looking at this nonsense very closely.

That is the most sensible comment I have heard so far. It is highly irresponsible for mr. Skerrit to say that we all, and he knows who did this.
It could be an accident but if not and the culprit turns out to be someone associated with mr. Skerrit’s side he will end up with egg all over his face.

Lennox Linton be a man and accept responsibility for that irresponsible suggestion to protest in an air-port. Trying to under-mine and embarass the security of the same country you say you love and want to rule..

But all the brainless one’s shouting ‘CHANGE IS A MUST’ . Why would you want people to be demonstrating days before an election. This could have easily been a violent riot. You and your cabinet has been making alot of irresponsible statements that can imply to people to be violent.

Then you hide behind your I am a reasonable man approach. Why days before an election you want people to be stirring up trouble.Sir, you are irresponsible and I hoping Jah guide and put Domininca in the hands of Labour again and again and again…You are the biggest liar in Dominica and shut-up.

This conference should have been called prior to the fire. It clearly demonstrates the leader is reactive not proactive.
