UWP to host Ross University public meeting

The United Workers Party (UWP) has announced that it will be hosting a public meeting on Thursday 23rd August, 2018 to discuss the ‘sudden and sad departure of Ross University School of Medicine (RUSM) from the shores of the Commonwealth of Dominica after forty (40) years of existence.”

The meeting is expected to begin at 5:00 pm.

“Highlights of the Meeting will include presentations on the possible reasons for Ross’ exit; the indifference with which the Dominica Labour Party Administration has treated with this grave economic loss; empathizing with the Nation and more particularly those who stand to lose the most from this state of affairs; and articulating a way forward to be undertaken by an incoming United Workers Party Government,” the party said in a statement on Wednesday.

Earlier this month Ross announced that it will be shutting down its operation in Dominica and will be moving to Barbados.

Lennox, for the people of Petite Savanne and the South East Jungle Bay was their Ross University. The resort provided jobs for hundreds and market for their produce and fish. And what was your advice to Sam Raphael? “Don’t rebuild because it will make Skerrit look good”. Also, the CBI is Dominica’s many Rosses – responsible for hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue and hundreds of jobs in the spin-offs re hotel and housing construction and more….. And you have been persistent in your efforts at undermining that program. And now you are shedding crocodile tears. What hypocrisy!

Ras, I totally agree with what you wrote, thumbs up. By the way, since you use the name Ras, you all need to seriously legalize marijuana, or at least decriminalize it and pardon those Dominicans you have locked up and/or owing money to the courts for simply having some bush. I’m quite sure Lennox will, but you all should take in front and score some heavy political points that will keep you in office. A win win for both sides, too much misery on our people just fulfilling America’s racist wish.

God knows us more than we know ourselves, our intentions good and bad he know things before it happens. If Linton and his gangs are in for their pockets and not for the well being of Dominica they will never win an elections. God its your will bless DA with the right leader in Jesus name amen.

Stop the talking and please do something people. DLP,UWP, freedom some body do something turn those buildings into manufacturing buildings don’t care if its weed just do something before these buildings fall apart. Dominica is not a tourist destination so you have to create an export market. Every stop & shop I go to have Costa Rica bananas. Why not Dominica bananas. So sad decades after decades is the same old thing regardless of who in power.

It’s not beating a dead horse it’s your quickest way to financial recovery without a international airport your tourist business will always a dream instead of reality. I’ve been hearing about airport since I was born in the sixties and still nothing but with the empty buildings already there gives you an opportunity to use them for manufacturing plants. Unless the government has plans to put another school on the same site. Again built the airport. Create nightlife get rid of customs the tourist will come. Until then you have to find employment for your people.

Daryl Joseph I was not talking about you. You actually posted after me. I maybe agree with you because that building not going to house no more school.

Only land we have . We cannot even well build roads. UWP try all kind of thing to attract investors when they was in government. They even try offshore banking and all those big countries did was blacklist us.

I think CB BOSS or one of those man mention that before, all we have is land so lets plant. You write tourist not coming. So long in school they telling us about eco-tourism. Garcon that is a fantasy.

I really don’t know about night life and tourist but I want to agree with you. We need to plant.

Thank you Judith, that’s heartfelt. I too wish Ross’ wishes were met over the number of years we had to accomplish the few demands that would help propel us into the 21st century, such as an intl airport that would facilitate direct flights from the U.S and Canada. Also assisting your school with accreditation that is so important and I’m sure our side had ample time to show interest and make these things happen. Oh well, it is what it is. We seem to have got what we deserve from our inaction and laissefait and obway attitude.

Ross situ gave inside look of Dominican people. Didn’t know you all so passionate also articulate. You guys will be ok you are resilient to be around given calamities suffered. One picture from hullabaloo that left me rolling on the floor is guy Asstopan . That feller resemble a sleezeball character actor from old black and white movies set in Europe in the 1930’s and 40’s. Funny as f**k!

Yes go tell the people of Portsmouth that You( UWP and your suppoters) You All are sorry for Your Actions and Autterances in the country(Dominica) which caused ROSS to moved AWAY from the country.
Your actions have been a threat to the students, the business owners and other investors.
Salisbury fire and blocking of roads, stoning of the Police, fires in Roseau, to name a few. As the opposition party your utterances are frightening and chaotic. Your Leader’s motive is to get into power by any means. He has travelled the world putting our country in bad light trying to achieve his goal. Never have you ( UWP) said anything good about Dominica to encourage foreiners. Ross gone stop crying over spilt milk; my question to you, would Ross have stayed if your Leader and your party was in governance of the country? Yes go tell the people of Portsmouth that YOU ARE SORRY FOR YOUR DANGEROUS ACTIONS in the country that have caused ROSS to leave Dominica. TRAITORS AS YOU ALL ARE.

My boy these big companies is all about money. Look at what they are doing in America. They closing down to move to other countries that are unstable but have cheap labor. They don’t even care whether it hurt their country. Ross would have eventually leave Dominica.

DOMLEC was sold to a private company. Look what they doing us now. Lets try to build our country and forget about trying to make political mileage. You are not the ruling party, however Its said that you guys were able to get millions of dollars for students to go and study. Half of the time they don’t come back.

Lets use that effort to help Dominica’s economy. People will then vote for you.

Since when the UWP pays so much attention to Portsmouth? Where was UWP after Maria? I did not see them there, neither after Erika. Where was UWP when Portsmouth people struggled and fought for more attention to their town? Where was UWP when squatters were demanding land from Government? Where was UWP when ground was broken for world-renowned hotels? Where was UWP when Ross committed to investing millions in Dominica through the expansion of its School?

Now, when it feels politically important, they have two public meetings in Possie (the first, held in Picard, was a resounding flop). Out of the blue, UWP is suddenly interested in the plight of the people of Portsmouth?!

The people will not be fooled. It is clear that the UWP seeks to capitalize from the misfortune of those most affected by Ross’ departure. What a shame! What a (insert Angelo Alleyne’s voice) doggone shame!!!

You guys have done nothing to help anyone in Dominica, not even the constitutions that you represent. All you do is talk negative with no solid solution and help. We the Portsmouth people will never bow to you Workers party. Marigot and Salisbury people said they will never bow to the Labour Party, so what make you think that we the Portsmouth people going to bow to the Workers Party.. HELL NO.. The millions you guys hearing that’s in the treasury, you guys want to come and shove our dirty hand in the cookie jar. We have news for you guys. We are going to shove that door so hard in your face, Workers will never think again of trying the Portsmouth people. Its nothing personal, we know who have the interest of the people at heart and who is just a snake in the grass.

      August 23, 2018

…and what exactly have you guys done?? I mean apart from ruining the country and robbing it blind?

      • August 23, 2018

Much more than what the freedom party and the UWP did in their combined 20 years. When the UWP was kicked out office in 2000 Dominica was in financial chaos, civil servants were not been paid on time, merchants could not get paid for goods and services provided to government, government was not able to pay social security contributions for civil servants. The millions of dollars left by the Freedom party to build the layou river hotel vanished under the UWP administration and we are yet to see a hotel. Let us not forget about the sale of a Domican passport to an Australian who was wanted by the Australian government. The current UWP is now the home of very questionable characters; Jason Fontaine who served time in jail in the USA and Dominica for criminal acts, the deputy leader has charges of child molestation pending against him and the recently declared UWP candidate for Soufrier received a 30 count indictment for drug trafficking in the USA.

You talk a load of …. and you were not in any meeting moving to Barbados. Infrastructure yes, no food in Possie? Possie is always the less hit and most prepared in any disaster remember that. Ross purchased an entire store of food after Maria. When all you was looting and dying hungry in Roseau we were in Paradise so get a grip,. This envy of Possie must stop. Good thing Ross affects the entire country and not Possie alone, all you would be dancing in the streets more.

Sam, stop your illiteracy and childish response. Wake up and read the bigger picture where it is not Linton, but the People of Portmouth and Domininca that is suffering. Domininca is ailing, I have not heard made any credible pints, suggestions as to how we move Dominica forward. Hon Linton and the UWP are not the issue nor did they create this backward, impoverished is and of us. It is inept Skerrit and bi immature corrupt Labour government who has and continue to cripple Domininca and its economy and as a result our people live in poverty. After 18 years and bobol fiasco and massive corru0ttion and immature PM and worthless cabinet, we have crippled to a, it a third world island but a “NO NO” island.
If Skerrit was fast asleep in limbo when Ross moved why don’t you point the finger at him? Where was Skerrit, where was his ridiculous 18 member incompetent cabinet. Where was Ian Douglas the Parliamentary Representative for Portsmouth? Where the hell was he.
      Skerrit is a hopeless…

        August 22, 2018

This is like the “for real” element in facing disasters and emergencies. You have to be the ruling party to help people. You can claim that you are for the people but when they need help you are a no show.( M. I. A. ) Three times in a row …..Erica, Mathew and Maria ,Cat 5 and you can do nothing, zilt zero . NORTHFING because you are not the ruling party, you are not in Cabinet. Are you in space or just spaced out. But you are a representative. But the only representation you can do is “blaa. blaa, blaa. Three sayings come to mind…..If you love me show me…..who is not for you is against you…..a friend in time of need is a friend “for real.”

      • August 22, 2018

The UWP knows how to raise money for their leader to pay his bills. The UWP can raise money for its leader to travel all over the world to accuse Skeritt of threatening global security and criminal activity without a thread of evidence. You don’t have to be in government to help. If as opposition you are not able to help the less fortunate, then you should not be aspiring to government. After TS Erica and hurricane Maria I know of Dominicans locally and overseas who used their personal resources to help, these were not politicians but ordinary Dominicans who streched out a helping hand to people in need. Yet you have this LAZY UWP saying that they can only help if the are in government. Help us Lord if this bunch of jokers ever get elected to office

Yeah,I fully agree. After Erika and Maria they were more concerned with sharing ration and building materials,in their quest to get votes, while Ross was being taken away from Dominica. Those lazy and incompetent MISLEADERS never told the nation what was happening with Ross.To date what we know, has come from the CEO of Ross, and Mia Motley In fact one misleader even said is a letter that UWP wrote to Ross..That is what a nation gets when they have evil MISLEADERS governing their affsirs. Thanks God,they rein of terror and destruction is coming to an end.
