Venezuela President to visit Dominica

Maduro is expected on the island on Wednesday

The President of Venezuela, Nicholas Maduro, is to make his first official visit to Dominica on Wednesday.

Maduro is expected to symbolically hand over 300 houses, called ‘petrocasas,’ to those affected by Tropical Storm Erika.

One such structure has already been erected at the Douglas Charles Airport in anticipation of the handing-over ceremony.

Maduro was expected in Dominica on Saturday but the visit was unexpectedly cancelled. No reasons were given for the cancellation.

Recently Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit announced that Venezuela had offered the houses after the passage of Erika and Dominica readily accepted.

He said the first 50 houses are expected to be in the country in the next couple of weeks and the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Housing will advise cabinet how and where they will be erected.

Who is jerking who off? I hear that since saturday and right now still no sign of Maduro in Dominica but I see the Pope’s visit live on at least seven channels on Marpin this morning. What is all the secrecy. That frigging Skerrit government too paranoid and secretive and the man talking about transparency so? Chupes!

A friend in need is a friend indeed we in Dominica always bite the hand that feeds us so ungrateful . Maduro didn’t have to give us anything he gave us money plus 300 homes they criticize the houses I suppose they would prefer those built by America that crumbles like a pact of cards in a storm no concrete or reinforce steel. So sad these haters doesn’t contribute anything to help the country. EMPTY VESSELLS MAKES THE MOST NOISE

After reading this blog, I can see why Dominica was hit……. Some of the most self centered haters ever… People, this is the time to stop your nonsense , support your PM, even if you don’t like him , be grateful , and help each other and those in need. Thank you Venezuela for the Homes.
Thank God most Dominicans are warm, loving, caring, and industrious people, unlike some of the people on these blogs who do not fully realize that the world is listening to everything said here……..

The style of leadership of the DLP will always lead to polarization of the country. The same happens in Venezuela. Its a game played by the play makers, those behind the scene. The PM is just the main actor. This style or governance will work in poor and/or underpopulated countries. D/A satisfies both conditions. There are those who are going to love and hate to the bone. In the end we have to look beyond, what is it we want as a a people. Socialism has failed, the so called assistance that are being rendered to the poor and needy, though good, is stifling growth. NEP are not sustainable, most of the elderly being assisted are strong party supporters with children who have jobs. Those who do not support the DLP are marginalized, humiliated, laughed and scorned at. In order to get any help or assistance you are to paint 666 on your foreheads. Charity should come from NGO’s or churches. Will Dominica be a better place in 50 years. I doubt not. What we need is hard work.

Guayana Esequiba (Spanish pronunciation: [ɡwaˈʝana eseˈkiβa]) is a territory administered by Guyana but claimed by Venezuela. It was first included in the Viceroyalty of New Granada and the Captaincy General of Venezuela by Spain, but was later included in Essequibo by the Dutch and in British Guiana by the United Kingdom. Originally, parts of what is now eastern Venezuela were included in the disputed area. The portion today under the administration of Guyana divides the area in six administrative regions (Barima-Waini, Cuyuni-Mazaruni, Pomeroon-Supenaam, Potaro-Siparuni, Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo and Essequibo Islands-West Demerara), while Venezuela treats it as a single entity (Guayana Esequiba or “Zona en Reclamación”). This territory of 159,500 km² is the subject of a long-running boundary dispute inherited from the colonial powers and complicated by the independence of Guyana in 1966.

This territory of 159,500 km² is the subject of a long-running boundary dispute inherited from the colonial powers and complicated by the independence of Guyana in 1966. The status of the territory is subject to the Treaty of Geneva, which was signed by the United Kingdom, Venezuela and British Guiana governments on February 17, 1966. This treaty stipulates that the parties will agree to find a practical, peaceful and satisfactory solution to the dispute…

SO WHY THE MILITARY BUILD UP BY THE VENEZUELANS ON THE GUYANA BORDERS…… IF THEY FEEL THE LAND BELONG TO THEM WHY NOT JUST OCCUPY IT… I WONDER WHAT MY AMERINDIAN BROTHERS AND SISTERS SAYING ABOUT THAT… THAT SAME LAND WAS STOLEN FROM THE NATIVE PEOPLE THEY MET IN THE AMERICAS BY THE EUROPEANS… WHY CANT THE VENEZUELANS RESPECT THE TREATY THEY SIGNED…

There is an ole saying don’t give a monkey a gun. We all know why. When I watch maduro and Skeritt that’s all that come to mind. And in case you guys wondering the only togetherness I will join is to see Skeritt out of office. Ts Erika will not change my opinion of him. I believe is a lack of attention to the real needs of Dominica and the culture of deception putting self interest over the safety and well-being of citizens is the reason why the effects of the storm were magnified. TS set back Dominica 5 years not 20years. Dominica had been set back 20 years for the past 15 years and the PM is happy to use Erika as a scapegoat. Look at our national debt, look at the rate of homicides unsolved, look at agriculture, look at the rate of molestation, bribery of church. Mockery of God. The list goes on. Any help I give is to people directly. Not government not opposition. Venezuela is a bloddy bully that flexes its muscles for influence and we are being dragged in for 30 pieces of…

Shaka Zulu did not go around asking other armies of the world to help him fight the British, nor did he get guns and ammunition, food, and anything from friendly countries. What he did was to inspire his people to believe in themselves and their abilities, to fight with what they have and to put effort beyond your physical capabilities. The best way to defend the underdog is by lifting him/her up to achieve full potential. You can go ahead and interpreted what you want. I love my country first and I have enough commonsense to see we are down the wrong path. I can also tell the difference between honesty and deception. You choose to see what u want. I do not depend on Skeritt or Lennox or maduro to feed me or pay my bills and I will speak as I believe. Wisdom is a gift and not everyone has it.

The island was most likely discovered by Avaro Sanzze in 1584, though it was not settled. It was subsequently claimed for Great Britain, Spain, Portugal and the Netherlands. Throughout the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries, the inhabitants of the Dutch islands St. Eustatius and Saba regularly visited Aves to collect turtle and bird eggs.

Very true, even the people on the French island of Guadeloupe claimed it, nevertheless, the island sits in Dominica’s territorial waters! One of the problem is that Patrick John failed to address the issue, with Britain when they coercing (forced) us into independence.

Making matters worst, Eugenia Charles told Chavez that she was not interesting in Bird island, Venezuela can have it if the wish! She preferred the handouts rather than fighting for what rightly belongs to Dominica. As for Mr. Mountain Chicken Crapo Mentality, he will not mover a single muscle to challenge, or engage in talks regarding Bird island!

While Dominica prepares for an official visit from His Excellency Nicholas Maduro, President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to symbolically hand over 300 petro casas to victims of the passage of Tropical Storm Erika, the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela is building up their troops along the Cooperative Republic of Guyana border with the intention of invading 2/3 of that country’s land mass.

If Venezuela invades Guyana… this will likely be the worst human activated disaster the Western Hemisphere has seen in decades… which will result in loss of significant numbers of human life, irreparable damage to the infrastructure and economy of Guyana and could trigger a hemispheric war probably involving the United States of America and the Commonwealth (countries obtaining political independence from Great Britain).

I do hope a clear message is sent to the Bolivarian Republic for common sense to prevail in the dispute between Venezuela and Guyana…

      — And trust that Venezuela will agree to respect the SOVEREIGNTY, RIGHTS, and INDEPENDENCE of Guyana.

I pray for God’s intervention in this impasse which could turn into a hemispheric calamity and danger to the safety, security, and, health and wellbeing of the people of the Americas…

This is serious and we must all take the threat on Guyana as a threat on CARICOM… Let’s therefore use this opportunity to pray for peace in this period of uncertainty

Dominicans should be ashamed to be so ignorant that they’ll welcome “mister” knowing full well the suffering he exacts on his people. What do you think is gained by playing the fool, and pretending to be blind to world event? Do you think this actually earns respect and admiration by those in a better position? Do you for a second think that Maduro will leave with a positive impression of a people that won’t ask questions or critique what they see and hear?!

Even in the acceptance of charity we should maintain our dignity and be not afraid to show we are a proud, intelligent people. By accepting anything, turning a blind eye to injustices around the world, and willingly accepting whatever is thrown at us, the world only see us as hapless smiling fools.

I thought Dominicans valued education, and placed a premium on intelligence. Seems like we’ve traded that image in for the begging pauper, eager to lick the boot of whoever waves the next treat in front our faces!

Maduro would be better off taking a trip to Guyana to see if Venezuela and Guyana can find a peaceful solution to their western border dispute. While he plans on coming to deliver 300 blo-go-dow houses to Dominica on Wednesday, the president of Guyana is reporting that the same Maduro on Tuesday, “has deployed troops to a contested border region in what he called a “dangerous” escalation of a long-running dispute between the South American nations.”
I hope Maduro does not drag Dominica into this one against Guyana. Skerrit needs to remember that although he gave citizenship to former test cricketer, Shiv Chanderpaul, shiv is from Guyana and might be threatened by Maduro

Those of you Skerritites that hate everything I post here and refer to me as UWP, let me say to you that you are wrong!. I am a true Labor to the bone! I voted for EO Leblanc, PJ, OJ, Rosie, Peiro, and Skerrit in 2005. When I heard how Skerrit diverted from the vision and policies of the DLP, I did not vote in 2009. It was only in 2014 I decided to vote UWP because there is no way, as a true labor, a dedicated Christian and true patriot, with the knowledge of Skerrit that I have, would vote him again with a clear conscience. As far as I am concerned, the DFP was destroyed by Ayatola and I will not allow Skerrit to destroy what we in the DLP stand for.

Mr. Skerrit should use this opportunity to tell Mr. Maduro that Dominica is in a serious crisis, and therefore, the people of Dominica need Mr. Maduro to denounce all claims on “Bird Island” and return it to Dominica, since it was God’s gift to us.
As a Laborite, and member of the Alliance movement, the late Rosie Douglas told me several times that getting Bird Island was his # 1 vision. Here is DNO:
“Dominica appears to have all but ceded its claim of Bird Island to Venezuela, a diplomatic cable released this week by whistle-blower site Wikileaks, has revealed. Read the story here: http://dominicanewsonline.com/news/homepage/news/general/dominica-may-cede-bird-island-to-venezuela/

If it were President Obama coming or even sending someone as special envoy, I would see light in the bottom of the valley that Erika and poor political policies have place us in. Venezuela is in serious crisis caused by the same old policies that Skerrit is trying to embrace and implement here, and Maduro sure CANNOT help his own adopted country.
You see, these are the things we must consider especially when our back is against the wall. Why did we sit there and allow Skerrit to hurt the beautiful relationship we enjoyed with the world Super power for how many years, for a country that is incapable of helping itself like Venezuela?
When counseling our sons and daughters about marriage and choosing a spouse, don’t we advise them to make sure that person is able to help in crisis? Why plunge a nation in darkness?

God expects that as a national, you will do your part and not merely criticize anyone, the latter which you appear to excel in.
Examine your conscience and your mindset in general prior to criticizing anyone one whatsoever.
If you are broadminded and not blind and deaf, you would know that some people are poor through their own fault. Examine as they were growing up, attending school and to adulthood, how they conducted themselves, to learn and do something good for themselves.

How come with all the damage in Dominica, your pope, has not said a word about the suffering of our people, nor donated anything to help the country, yet he was in Cuba washing jail birds feet and talking crap! I know you are going to tell me Jesus washed his disciples feet, agreed; however, you cannot say where in the Bible where it states how many people feet his disciples washed; not one, and the Bible told no preacher to wash people’s feet.

so all of that is simply a show which has nothing to do with the word of God. Remember the betrayer Judas kissed Jesus, for thirty pieces of silver.

If he is so concern about the poor he was close to Dominica, less than two hours flying, how come he did not find it fit to visit? You know why our nation is too poor therefore we are not on his agenda, and that might be a good thing anyway!

Francisco, the state does not owe Skerrit any security, the office of the Prime Minister is entitled to security, as Hon. R. Skerrit holds that position, the State is duty bound by the constitution to provide such security for him. that goes also for the office of the President, who is Hon. C. Savarin. So right now if a general election were to be held and Dominicans were to elect a rum drinker or any other person as the leader of their party and that party would have won the elections, then that person would be entitled for security.
You really have some vendetta against PM Skerrit , to ever time you appear on DNO is the same thing. Election is over , wait you all turn.

Yes BEB, there are lots of protocols written in our nations constitution: they are all ignored, however, whenever it is accommodating to someone they like to refer people to the constitution. Here is an example.

Charles Savarin, so called president of Dominica caused a civil war in our country, and overthrew his labor party government led by Patrick John.

That sucker developed amnesia the other when people were standing up for their rights, he began quoting the nation Preamble, the preamble was in existence when his war cost such vast destruction in the country from the nation has yet to recover. The constitution was written when the one you eloquently called ” Mr Skerrit” I the kid call him the Mountain Chicken Crapo Mentality Roosevelt Skerrit; who told the nation ” no constitution, no law can prevent him from being Prime Minister in Dominica.

That Crapo, that Mountain chicken Skerrit: has placed himself above the laws and constitution of our country. The Preamble, and…

I hear Matt this morning coming with the same argument which sounded like an excuse really. My question would be what is there to fear for Maduro in Dominica that is greater than a threat to the Pope or Obama in Cuba or the U.S.A. My brother Roosevelt is just too paranoid and too full o his own importance that is the real truth and that is very unhealthy for him.

The only CARICOM country nation the Venezuelans can annex, and has annex without a fight is Bird island belonging to backward Dominica!

      Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah!

The people of Guyana will fight for what is theirs, and if the time ever comes where they are overpowered by Venezuela, the world militarily is not going to stand on a side and let a communist country take Guyana. The Trinidadian’s are operating at will in the Gulf of Pariah in territorial waters, Venezuelans complain, but they dare not challenge Trinidad!

Skerrit is so damn weak, and beg so mush, he does not have the courage to mention Bird island to any Venezuelan fearing they will whip his Butt!

Dominicans should come out in large numbers to welcome him. They should all have placks that read,” Guyana is our brother ” and attack on Caricom is an attack on US. Skeritt has sold our souls to the devil and he is now coming to claim his due. Whoes side you think Dominica sorry y’all leader is going to be on. It was TS Erika now it’s maduro the taxi driver turn politician. Craziness, stupidity, and ignorance is a dangerous mix. Pretty soon the waters of bird island will be off limits.

Don’t expect anything like that from Dumbnicans. They will jump up and down and see Maduro as a hero because where Skerrit leads them, they follow blindly. They will realize only when it is too late.

Mr. Maduro is the President of Venezuela. Due to his status, whatever you think and feel about him, he deserves protection and respect.
The problem with people as you, you have no respect for authority. I wonder if you have for anyone and even yourself. You are giving yourself and D/cans a bad name.
Our Lord Jesus Christ expects that, no matter what, we are obligated to have respect and to show it for especially authority. If you do not, you are not a genuine practicing Christian. There is a price to pay for that.
You should not live and die with hatred for anyone and as much as dislike. Consider where your soul will end up for all eternity. Those who dislike/hate will never be happy and peaceful. They deny themselves godly blessing and graces. When will some of you learn that? God is taking note of all your (our) words and actions!

He has to be protected. If this is what it takes, it is worthwhile, for the protection of a President.
A little bit of this inconvenience will not harm D/ca. Dominicans may welcome a holiday – a day off. Who wouldn’t?

A little bit of inconvenience? You sounding just like Pary Bellot who said the same thing when Chavez was here. I’m sure you would sing a different tune if that happen in Toronto. Who is caring about the passengers that planned to travel to and from Dominica today?IThat is difficult and expensive already. They should just be discarded and ignored?

we must recall that VENEZUELA have been a freind for many decades under various Presidents even before Independence and did conclude a treaty of cooperation in 1979 following the passge of Hurricane David .Venezuela through PAPILLERA INDUSTRIAL joined forces in a JV with the windward Islands to create the Winera cardboard Boxing plant in st lucia ..Though relatively quiet during the past administrations ..The Skerritt administartion did activate the friendship cooperation treaty signed by OJ in 1979 and Dominica has been benefiiting ever since
