Water woes in Delices

water tapResidents in the Delices are expressing frustration because of the poor water supply in the area.

It is a problem that the Dominica Water and Sewerage Company (DOWASCO) said it is aware of and is working to rectify as soon as possible.

“In any case DOWASCO is aware of the problems in the Delices area, the interruptions being experienced by the residents of Delices,” DOWASCO’s PRO, Ed Registe told DNO. “It is a technical problem and we are doing all what we can to address it and we apologize for the inconveniences being experienced.”

One resident told DNO that for the past few days the water supply has not been consistent and this has created a huge inconvenience for him and his family.

“It is not what you call a dependable source of water. I cannot after a long day look forward to a long bath,” the resident said. “The water is not so reliable and you cannot depend on it … when it is there you have to do all what you can to utilize it.”

According to him, when there is no water, there are three options.

“Either you don’t bathe or go to the river,” he said. “Or you have to collect a bucket from whatever little source of water you can gather and use that to take a ‘cowboy bath.'”

Additionally, he stated, in terms of using the washroom, “is either you use a bucket of water to flush it down manually or use the bushes.”

“It is very frustrating and I my family and I are trying our best to cope with the situation,” the resident said. “If you don’t have a tank and you depend solely on the water supply you are in big problems.”

Registe stated that DOWASCO plans to air announcements via radio and other media outlets to apologize for the situation.

“We will continue to work on that problem,” he said.

I just spoke to my son Ron and he told me not to believe that Delices has a big water problem. When I told him my friend who lives in lower Caribe told me she has never missed water for the past year except for two days, once in January and the other being last week.
He told me that a new connection has to be made from the old system to the new and end of problem. My son also told me lets not talk about water for Delices, that will only expose him, remember all the years he represented Delices there was no water and it only took Petter to give the people a reliable water supply. I told him that I was told that DAWASCO had to refund all the people of Delices their money since they paid for no water while he was Parl Rep. My son shook his head, said “its true” and walk away.

That was when we didn’t need water to flush our toilets, we had pit toilets.Again I say to you SHUT UP!!!! We know where to get water , we not COPAWASO to forget our roots. But the health officials said that they don’t know the source of the Couson or Souce so they are discouraging us from drinking the water.

Well come up Delices and see what’s it like……We stayed more than a month with no water….I grew up in Delices when we used to go Souce or Couson for water before we go to school, and on weekends we go to the river to wash…..that was no problem…..but we live in the modern world 2015…. and don’t forget we get a water bill every month whether we have water or not, so our water should be consistent. Can you imagine what it’s like?Everything takes more time with no water. So SHUT up when you don’t know about a suituation.

Consider when people get accustomed to a system. Obviously, if it fails, they will feel the loss.
DOWASCO should have apologized to them a long time ago and inform them that the situation is being rectified. This would have set their minds at rest. I am certain they would be satisfied with it and put up with the inconvenience for the present.
