Gonsalves says Caribbean leaders meeting with Trump is ‘troubling’

Ralph Gonsalves

Prime Minister of St. Vincent and the Grenadines Dr. Ralph Gonsalves has described the recent meeting between United States President Donald Trump and some Caribbean leaders as “troubling.”

According to Caribbean News Service, Gonsalves told reporters that there was no true representation of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) as not all members of CARICOM were present.

The current chairman of the regional body, the Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis was not invited to the meeting.

“None of those persons were invited and for it to be a true CARICOM representation you must at least have the chairman so that any discussion of Venezuela in that context…… it cuts across the agreement mechanisms that we have put in place.”

He stated that,“We, in CARICOM have to be very alive to the mischief that some persons may be up to, to seek to divide us in a manner which we ought not to be divided and therefore reduce the extent of our work.”

Am deeply concerned about this meeting as it relates to why certain countries were invited and others sidelined. It amounts to gross disrespect to the Prime Minister of St Kitts who is the current chairman of the the regional group. He was not invited ? Who divides that ? What was promised to these countries? Were they threatened ?

Question! Do you usually invite all people in the city or village where you live? Get a life man. Trump invited his friends, not any Caribbean organization or grouping. Got it?

  5. March 26, 2019

This is the same man who told us that we do not need an international airport and then fly back to his homeland and build his owne.
Should we believe you now, while venezuelans suffer daily or are you trying to protect your corrupt Petrocaribe agreement at the expense of the venezuelan people

Lets go Trump, the Caribbean is behind you

Me Gonsalves, we are fully aware of the mischief you are causing with this comment meant to divide Caribbean people. The US president invited who he called his friends and did not invite representatives of the Caribbean, not Caricom. So where do you come off with your argument that those friends of Mr. Trump don’t represent the Caribbean? When Roosevelt Skerritt attended the St Petersburg economic forum in Russia, he decided to speak on behalf of the Caribbean. Did you denounce that power grab for Skerritt to want to offer visa-free entry to all Caribbean countries on his own volition? Sounds like you feel jealous and discarded not to be among the leaders invited to the private home of the US president. Let it rest Mr. Gonsalves because this event proves that even if you’ve been in office for a long time you aren’t that important in the scheme of things.

CARICOM did not joining ALBA as a Caribbean body…….If I recall individual Caribbean countries did so on their own.

So why now they are speaking to the US President as independent CARICOM countries it is troubling?

Was it troubling when you and others were speaking to Venezuela under ALBA as individual CARICOM countries?

Caribbean people need to be very mindful of the intentions of the North (Europe and America). For years with have been indoctrinated by the ideologies and philosophies (Capitalism, Marxism, Communism, Free Market, Socialism, Liberalism, etc) which we take as “truths” and use these to fight each other instead of uniting for our common good. We need to become independent thinkers with our own philosophies that work in our best interest.

    • Pipo

Gonsalves is like that cool granpa or Big Uncle so we gotta listen when he speaks..BUT, Barbados should have never poached Ross from Dominica, and CARICOM said nothing. The agreement among members should be to never allow multinational companies to simply pick-up and move to another CARICOM jurisdiction.
We can continue to fool ourselves but this region is going nowhere fast when we compete head to head with each other. The formula is to seriously find the comparative advantage of each of our islands and the whole region should cater to marketing such unique advantages in UNISON..unless we can relinquish our selfish ways, then Regional integration is just a Joke and CARICOM will forever be slapped into a corner while each island push their own developmental Agenda. Finally, you all must stand up and tell leaders when they’re wrong. Skerrit is creating a mendicant society under your noses, stink like rorring flesh and all mouths remain SHUT!!..#hypocrisydivides #wakeup!!

People never forget that these three named caribbean countries (Dominica, St. Vincent and Antigua) are on record in the US senate as caribbean countries who are considered as compromised due to the conflict of interest with their support of Maduro and the fact that they receive oil and oil money.

Yes, very troubling. haven’t we been there before ? Grenada is not too far back , and the Caribbean players are almost the same . To them , it is what they can get in terms of development for their impoverished countries , in Dominica’ case then , Ms Charles had nothing to show for her exploits , Jamaica under the JLP have always sided with the USA , We should never forget the perils Michael Manley went through during his era of Regime change in 79/80 . The JLP of Jamaica , was at the forefront of the West Indian federation breakup under Bustermante . Today Mr Hollness continues along the same path , supporting American Imperialism . Some Dominicans are not immune from this debacle .

Ralph, it is not surprising that Donald Trump did not meet with the rest of you scoundrels.

For whatever reason they invited Haiti and the Dominican Republic, only heaven knows since, all of the governments invited are from Black people country, which Trump classified and call “Shit-hole countries!”

One wonders why the government of Trinidad was not invited, nor Barbados.

Nevertheless, the United States might have simple ignored the likes of you Ralph Gonzales, and your corrupted friend  Roosevelt Skerrit. The fact is I must agree that Jamaica Haiti and  are not a true representation of the Caribbean community!

I am elated that  you Gonzales, and least of all the double doctor the Punjab/Duquesne graduate was denied an audience with Trump!

You Gonzales and Roosevelt are notorious liars, if both of you met with Trump, it would be a competition to see which of three could lie the most.

I suspect it would be a three way…

Strange but true – When last were you in Dominica? When last did u have a conversation with the PM in Dominica? I will also include Gonzales too in the when? I do hope you are not calling them names with no proof and on heresay? You seem to be so smart not to recognise that your words (repeating) with no proof cannot stand on its own. Remember it is not only you that is educated or wise. Many of us can think, see around us (we walking with opened eyes) what is happening here in Dominica. So please stop being disgruntled and be objective Francisco. Stop that hating every time you comment thing.          I live in America, where anything people like Donald Trump say are fact checked as he speaks.

To date they found Trump to have told more than three (3,000) thousand lies in public in broad daylight, so you can remain  in Dominica in your dark backwardness and ask me for proof.

As for proving Roosevelt is a damn liar, he lied to me personally in communication via E-mail, so you need to shut!up!

You want proof of Gonzales lies, ……………..you would not have believed him when Roosevelt brought  him to lie convincing you that we don’t need International Airport; he left you ignorant, went home and build one in St. Vincent.

You calling progressive thinking political leaders liars. You are pathetic and appears to be an ignaromus miscreants…Everything is not about your foolish politilical diatribe. Mr. Gonzales is absolutely correct. This is the same underhanding tactics our slavemaster uses to enslave us.

Guy if you are referring to me; let me  prove that you are the most sorrowful: “Pathetic” ignorant  person walking up side down without a clue of what you are talking about!

You are ignorant if you count Ralph and Roosevelt progressive leaders; if you were not a fool, you would take a look at the rest of the Caribbean, from an economical point of view.

What you will find is that Dominica and St. Vincent are on the same backward level where poverty plagues both nations.

After 18 years of Roosevelt Skerrit each day Dominica goes faster in reverse!

If Roosevelt had progress on his agenda he would not have brought the same progressive Gonzales  to fool a true diatribes like you into believing that Dominica has no need for an International Airport; idiots like you  believed him.

Nevertheless, St. Vincent has Argyle International: Dominica has Douglas-Charles, is that progress?

Illegal  drugs is St. Vincent main industry, the sale of Dominica passports is…

You know the less educated Dominicans like to play with words, as if to say that makes them important,or something special.

I am not impressed, because if I need to be grammatical I can speak to you that bit of nothing in Cambridge English which you will have difficulties understanding.

When education was sharing I did not get it for free, I paid my way through college and university you see; so put that in your crack cocaine pipe and smoke it.

        Note:

History of diatribe: That sense of the word, however, is now archaic; you don’t typically find it in modern contexts.

When diatribe is used today, the connotation is quite different. The word most often refers to a bitter or abusive speech or piece of writing.

So, if you are trying to impress someone it is not “I!”

I am academically educated as they come; I did not get mine on a smart phone, or in a computer cafe.

There is no Caricom government, like exists for the E.U., which can establish legally binding rulings for it’s members, which are sovereign states. They make this obviously clear as the low membership of the CCJ demonstrates. Roosevelt Skerrit did not consult Caricom when he signed his agreement with China. Indeed, to this day he has not even informed his citizens as to its contents. It is a bit rich for those Caricom members, who oppose the U.S.A. regional policy, in support of Maduro, to unilaterally boycot a meeting with Venezuela’s alerternative President. Nothing is said in this instance about a united Caricom front. Not a word from Gonsalves on this!
I do not support Donald Trump but the likes of Gonsalves cry woolf too much and only support Caricom when it suits them. There is no unity here, with their respective leaders trying to outdo their supposed partners.

This meeting will accomplish little or nothing. Its sole intention is to divide the Caribbean togetherness against the American regime change policy on Venezuela. The heads who took the bait should hang their heads in eternal shame. These so called leaders are quick to cuddle under a man who has referred to their countries as latrines. The leaders, and I use that word loosely, who attended that meeting, are an abominable embarrassment to the entire Caribbean.e

@Ibo France, you seem to be focussing on the USA in the Venezuela saga. Do you know that Canada, Britain, Spain, Germany, Austria, Denmark, Sweden, Poland, Portugal, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Guatemala, Honduras, Panama, Paraguay, and Peru all support Guido as interim President of Venezuela? The list keeps growing.

      • Ibo France
        March 27, 2019

Jonathan, because most of these Western Hemispheric countries choose to support America’s misguided foreign policy of regime change in Venezuela, is that the right yardstick to use for support? Most countries in the Caribbean, Africa, Asia Central and South America, in fact, most countries throughout the world are adamantly at odds with this specific policy. The US has done a lot of good things throughout the world but they have also done many reprehensible things also. For any foreign country to overthrow a sovereign government and install a government of its choice is just wrong.

As a people, we have never been united. We talk about unity, but it is all talk. If we were truly United, we would be able to traverse the Caribbean and live and work anywhere freely. Jamaicans would not be harassed in Trinidad and Guyanese would not be harassed in Barbados.
