Government to fund road rehabilitation works in Marigot

Skerrit

Residents of Marigot can expect infrastructural works to commence within the community shortly. This was disclosed by the Hon. Prime Minister, Roosevelt Skerrit as he addressed a recent Village Council swearing in ceremony at Marigot.

According to the Prime Minister, the Government will commit itself to two road projects in the Marigot constituency.

“I would like to commit the Government to two projects. The first project which initially we had visited is the Fine Grass Project. I have travelled the Fine Grass Road and recognised that there are some parts of this road that are in a deplorable condition. We will give commitment as we have done in the past, Mr. Chairman. We will put the monies in the hands of the council as I believe councils make better use of resources than even Central Government sometimes,” Skerrit said.

He added, “Once you have completed the Fine Grass Road, I will commit the Government to the Over Gutter Road for a complete rehabilitation of the said road. I give you the assurances that before the end of March, the council will have the funds for the Fine Grass Project.”

Skerrit pointed out that not only will the projects benefit residents traversing to and from Marigot but they will also incite employment opportunities.

“As stated in the 2010-2011 budget address infrastructural works continue to dominate the capital programme as government continues to lay the platform for future economic growth,” he said

As tax payers those are projects that are needed in Marigot. We don’t have to be thankful for those projects, that’s government job. What Marigot needs is better schools, adult center, upgraded hospital and a more modern fire station.

Marigot is a big village and can pass for the 3rd town we need more to be going on down here. Big projects like a express hilton hotel, and comfort suites. The chinese need to open factories, a better court house and a updated post office.

OK, so this is suppose to be trading 80 million for 80 thousand. Is this suppose to appease the handful of laborites that are there. While we are thankful for the project, we would have preferred the hotel. The Prime Minister should understand that if he wants to really do something for the Marigot people, he needs to bring a hotel in the melville hall area.

Papamet !! All dat debate dat going on dere nuh… What is the big deal that the govt putting a road in Marigot? Very good, Marigot is a part of Dominica too eh. The Govt needs to do something there, regardless if he will get a vote there or not. I really doubt he needs a vote there. SO we Marigotians will welcome the projects with open arms and appreciation. Thanks for remembering us.

So let me get this straight; Marigot / Wesley area was supposed to get a hotel, they took that away and now promising a couple feet of road at Finegrass, and people from Marigot are supposed to come here saying how great they are? Are we that blind?

As a Marigotian I am relieved to hear that the GOVT will be doing work in my village I know some of our people will feel good and others will feel other wise but to my people remember that we are part of the Commonwealth of Dominica and the Govt is also responsilble for all the villages M’got included and none are more important than the other regardless of you politicaal convictions, therefore I would ask that all of us welcome this gesture of good will from Mr. Skerrit we all know that good roads would be benificial for the village and for some folks their will be employment for the people let us all come together to say well done.
We Marigotians know how to say thanks whenever we recieved any gift from the Govt so this should not be any different. . And to all those that seem hell bent to say whatever they want about M’got we are a poeple that do not stand for any nonsense and that’s why we stand out.

Mr.Skerrit thatnk you now let us see deliver and to those at the Credit Union level lets make sure that all goes well as it should.

The ignorance I read here just makes me say WAW!!! Some people here could not have gone to the same schools in Dominica that I went to. And the bad part about this is that it has become predictable. When I see the headline, I already know what the responses here are going to be. Amazing!!!

    Ya skerro good move..
Then you should go bawi and see the state of the road
    its very bad
there need a little rehabilitation too
Ya man Marigot and them others is a part of us to
everybody have a rite to vote who they want
not because they voting blue the government have to turn there back on them

Next election who ever wins would not have to worry about putting roads in their manifesto
they would look at something else maybe an international airport
low port duties or duty free, a next alternative for electricity
once we get those the government would not have much to do again
because the citizens them selves would start to develop the country
investors would come, people would start to build there homes
there would be jobs, young people would buy transport to drive on all those roads that is being constructed etc…

We all know the place would move better

    ONE LOVE DOMINICA

 well thats a good thing the government always wanted to do someting in marigot but they were always rejecting it

which project did the government bring to the village that was rejected? You guys need to stop this nonsensical propoganda about marigot people rejecting development. Since u seems to know a lot please tell us how many marigot students applied for scholarships and did not even get a response. Mr Skerrit to his credit appears to have stopped listening to bigots like you. Marigot is a leading village in the country whether you like it or not and it has finally dawned on Skerrit that Dominica cannot go forward if villages like Marigot are not on board.

      • DC
        March 15, 2011

The government has been doing good, better and is at it’s best without the votes of Marigot…. so what exactly are you saying??? Come again. Marigot is populated, but it is just one seat. No Offence. But statistically, The Government didn’t need or doesn’t need Marigot.

While this is being said, the development of Marigot is still the Government’s responsibility. It is not a political issue. Like every other village, Marigot HAS to be developed as it is part of the country.

        • pempeh
          March 15, 2011

DC? What does that mean? What u mean the government doesn’t need marigot. Marigot has more resources than most villages in dominica and because they choose to vote their conscience like you did they not needed? that is one of the most foolish things i have read on DNO. Tell me when de man from Marigot was PM of the country would u have agreed if his policy was what is being practiced now? One thing for sure you cannot say that he did not attempt to develop the whole country. In fact his supporters are still adamant that if he had ignore villages like where you come from he would still be in power. I hope DC that you not a graduate eh. That was just too dumb man. Too dumb.

MARIGOT EMPRESS – Good Morning to you and do not fret yourself.. yes indeed Marigot is a part of Dominica. Do not allow some ” ” to take your peace and joy. You will always find these persons who are only there to steal people’s joy. They are working for the enemy “the evil one” who comes to steal, kill and destroy. Stop shouting (Upper case) and getting angry. It is not worth it.

      March 15, 2011

So Hugo behave yourself… People like you never satisfied, what ever is given, people like you never satisfied.. Do not fix the roads and u complain if they cannot fiix the road, take care of Elderly and you will still complain. Whatever is done will never be good enough for you. Stop being negative and always criticisng and do something positive in you community since the Government (this and the one you want to put in power) cannot and does not have the funding to do all what they would really want to do.

Hugo – be realistic – can you do all you would want to do for yourself and your children (if you have any) or yoru family? I am sure if you are honest, you cannot especially with the what is happenning worldwide. Economies down , prices going up etc and I can say more.

I have learnt to be at peace and contented. As long I am not hungry or my kids hungry. I thank the lord for his mercies especially when I see disaster around the world. Did u see years of toil and strain, homes, furniture, vehicles destroyed in the twinkle of an eye. In a moment.

We need to be mindfull of what is happenning around us and thank the Lord for our Island Dominica where we have not felt the harsh impact of what is around us. Stop the Blame game and let us praise and thank the Lord for his mercies and blessings bestowed to us and our country – Dominica.

          March 15, 2011

Yes it seem your little intelligence makes u so arogant that you call people ‘names’. you gift is from the Most High and you need to use your intelligent to tutor people not in “lies and propoganda” but being a true leader and teach them to understand what is happenning around them. One of the greatest evil is to take advantage of the masses who are less fortunate than us who went to “University, College etc” They look up to us especially if we came from a very briliant family “Our dad was a Headmaster” but we turn around and incite anger by feeding them with lies and propaganda and get them angry angry angry.

Don’t they look up to us a the elite in our society!

Father is looking down on how we use his gift of intelligence .. Remember he is the creator of all mankind but has a special love for the poor and down trodden in the world… So we should use our intelligence for his Glory and honour and look down on the poor and down trodden or use them to get where we want.. Father is watching!

comrade i support you on that one. for too long that road has been in a deplorable state. I also believe that urgent attention be paid to the Tan Tan road. this road has national significance as it can bypass the Bay Store area in case the sea blocks the road. Not one stroke of work was done on that road in 11 years.
