Fifteen acres of land in Warner has been approved by the government of Dominica for the construction of a campus by the All Saints University School of Medicine.

That pronouncement was made by the country’s leader Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit while he was speaking on the program Focus on Government and Development on DBS radio on Thursday 25th June 2015.

“The government took a decision to provide, I believe, about 15 acres of land to All Saints University to relocate its campus in Warner,” Skerrit said.

He informed that the school has indicated its readiness to commence construction and it is the hope that the student population will increase in a “dramatic” manner.

“So we are working with the school,” he stated. “The land is being leased to them in the first instance with an opportunity to sell to them later down the road.”

The Prime Minister said the move will be beneficial to Dominica.

“So all those things we are doing to facilitate investment to ensure that we can create sustainable jobs in the country, bring in the foreign exchange, see more growth in the economy, expand the economy, reduce poverty and create a better way of life for our citizens,” he said.

He added that one can appreciate the number of jobs that the new facility will create when being constructed and also during the operation of the school.

The Dominica campus of All Saints University School of Medicine is currently located on Hillsborough Street in Roseau. There is a population of about 900 studying at the institution coming from Canada, Europe, USA, Africa, Asia and Dominica.

We do not need another low rate medical college in Dominica. Fifteen acres of land for a University medical school? You all joking? These people joking! in this day and age we should not settle for such mediocrity. We need to invest more in Ross and make it a world class medical school that can attract
students from all over the world to attend classes in the thousands and do research in tropical medicine.
A little island like Dominica need a quality institution. We need to “BIG UP” ROSS much more. Ross is on the right track and they need more help than this All Saints Medical High School.

Well let me tell you something! If Ross would make there school more affordable Many people would come here. All Saints is a fantastic scholl where I graduated from and am now doing my residency alongside Ross graduates.

Warner is wonderful growing community. The people are very developmentally minded, unlike Grandbay. Our parl rep more forceful.

Warner will become the next Picard. Sorry all those now renting in and around Roseau. You’ll be happy no more Ebola in your house. All Saints all the way!

Someone asked about sewage disposal for the new campus. Excellent point because taking into consideration projected student growth and enrollment there is cause for concern with the site being located in Warner. Why … because the hard pan at Warner does not allow for free drainage and as such effective waste water disposal could be compromised and extremely expensive to mitigate against risk. Now it is left to wonder how did the authorities come up with this location and more importantly what criteria were used in assessing site suitability. Given the constraint of soil type at Warner coupled with projected expansion of dwelling homes for local residents as well as the potential for student studios and apartments does not paint a bright picture for Warner. Another suck away environmental hazard like the one in Picard waiting to happen. It seems like the GOVT. simply allocated State land (Social Security land) for the development of the project and now we wonder were is the EIA

:) well done as stated in the article job opportunity that’s what will help stimulate the income think of all the spin off that maybe 1800 students could generate. students renting cars eating out at local restaurants if those restaurants market their product properly partaking in all our cultural and entertainment activities carnival for example and so on we just need to give that good DA hospitality where we look out for our partner keep them safe I must say we are on our way to( regional dominance)

Not surprised at all that Grandbay has been politically victimized again. For years this community has been denied an economic opportunity to grow and eradicate the level of poverty in the entire southern district. Instead petty remarks such as Grandbay is a crime ridden community is used to justify politicians’ discrimination against a talented and hard working people.

Instead of hiding behind a computer and spewing a whole lot of political hot air, here is a golden opportunity to purchase some land, build some apartments to rent to students.

In typical Dominican fashion, you guys just talk a lot of nonsense and cannot see or seize an opportunity even if it runs over you like a Mack truck.

What I really want to know, is how after years of discussion the decision was made that the school was going to be built in Grand bay, now; the Prime Minister has decided to build it in warner. I have said that many times; this administration has been taken the people of Grand Bay for granted for years. Shame on the Parliamentary representative for not standing up for Grand Bay.

The Late John Fabian stood up, when the issue of the university comes up for discussion in cabinet. Every single one of the ministers, wanted the school to move to his/her constituency. I remember the days when folks use to say rise again with Labour, well my fellow Grand Bayrians, we are doomed to poverty, where is the development we have been promised for years? oh yes instead of the university the gave us a police station. I keep asking myself, a community that was so forwarded thinking; seems to have tossed all it moral values aside for what?

Why complain, you guys voted for them. They will leave you all behind because they assume that you all will always vote them in again. He gave you all a new police station meaning there are a lot of crime in your area. It is time you people open your eyes.

        Ideal & Silenter,
Since you guys are experts on crime in Grand Bay, I challenge you and anyone in Dominica, to show me the statistics on crime in Dominica (compare the other villages, with roughly the same population of my village. You will realized that you are the ones who need to open your eyes. . The fact remains there are other villages including yours with a higher crime rate than South City. Like I have said before only Grand Bayrians can move Grand Bay forward.

You also seem to forget around the time discussing was going on to establish the school in Grand Bay allu had driveby shootings, robberies, endless drug activity going on? Some of which have not stopped. You people are the only ones to blame for the school not being built in Grand Bay

Well, the way to solve crime and violence is to add something positive to the equation . I remember when i moved to the village carnival there was a challenge as soon as pero became PM that stop instantly without anyone saying to stop, so positive change brings about progressive attitudes . We have a resposibily to develop the whole island and grand bay is the next town on the island .Why can’t we be given a chance ? posi has had killings and robberies even on students but do we punish the whole community because of a few bad apples ? no and see how well they are doing in spite of the crime there . That school was our chance it is unfair to deny the people progress .

Why does everything have to be about Grand Bay?

There are multi villages in Dominica besides Grand Bay, and they too deserve to share in development.

Come on, why does Grand Bay expect preferential treatment?

      June 27, 2015

My community has virtually no violence and ironically, there was some houses broken into in my community and guys from GRAND BAY were arrested for them.

some Dominicans would like to know weather the exchange for land in pond casse for warner for an out spoken labour party sniper, was done with the interest of ministers in that land deal since the difference in price for the exchange is not comparable with each other…
also was the sultan water an hospital development cause certain ministers to put themselves in a position to make more money apart from their corruption dealings…

    americans call it insider trading…
