An Educational Conference will be the main highlight of activities to commemorate 50 years of Nursing Education in Dominica.
Organisers say the activities will run from October 28th to November 01.
Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) of the Dominica State College Denise Edwards says the activities will seek to educate the public about the value of formal nursing education in Dominica.
“Our three main presenters are graduate alumni’s who have received doctorates. They were breastfed here exclusively for the first three years in their nursing life”.
“As we honor them, we hope to inspire our younger graduates and current students. This confidence we know will translate to the provision of quality care, to individuals, families and communities while enhancing the development of the nursing profession in Dominica,” she added.
Other activities include a church service, the commemoration of a magazine, an educational conference, an awards dinner, an oldie goldies dance and a reunion river revelry.
The event will be held under the theme for the celebration “honoring our Heritage; Celebrating our Successes”.
Nursing education in a formal setting began in Dominica in 1962 in what was then called the Princess Margaret Hospital School of Nursing.
WELL AS ALWAYS I SAY LIKE IT IS. CONGRATULATIONS TO THE NURSES OF THE COMMONWEALTH OF DOMINICA YOU HAVE WALKED A MILESTONE .IN THE MIDST OF CHALLENGING TIMES YOU HAVE KEPT YOUR STANDARDS UP.BUT A LOT MORE NEEEDS TO BE DONE TO GET NURSES LIBERATED IN DOMINICA THE PROFESSION HAS BECOME ONE OF SLAVERY AND EXPLOITATION. EVEN SENIOR NURSES THEMSELVES FINDING THEMSELVES ENSLAVING ORTHERS INSTEAD OF JOINING IN THE FIGHT TO BRING NURSING TO THE NEXT LEVEL. PEOPLE EDUCATING YOURSELVES AND NEW POSITIONS ARE MEANT TO LIBERALISE AND NOT ENSLAVE .SO IN SUMMARY NURSING BELONGS TO GOD AND IF YOU ARE NOT OF GOD THE PROFESSION IS DOOMED.
I wish to commend all nurses in Dominica for doing a tremendous job. As an American nurse, I know how challenging this profession can be; definitely not for the faint of heart. Keep doing your best!

Always wonder why items such as this never get the attention and comments from viewers or readers. This is a positive for Dominica. And does not seem to have a political slant. Great props for our little, struggling country. Go nurses, go nurses, go!
Whoa, I can’t wait to be part of such grand affair.
