DR. CORY: Cancer soars despite billions spent

SPENDWhy is cancer so prevalent?

We have poured billions of dollars into cancer research, and yet cancer rates continue to explode.  Cancer is one of the leading causes of death worldwide and is projected to continue rising, with an estimated 13.1 million deaths in 2030 according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

A vast amount of resources from all over the globe have poured into cancer research, yet the problem continues to develop.  About 70 percent of all cancer deaths occur in low- and middle-income countries.

What are we doing wrong?

We must have complete faith in the health system but not forget about our personal responsibility to take care of ourselves to the best of our ability.  The health system relies on the treatment of cancer versus the prevention of it.

Governments, Ministries of Health and NGOs are not responsible for poor dietary choices, lack of physical activity, tobacco use or any other personal choices that are major contributors to the development of cancer.

In a free economic market, a government is not responsible for what is being sold in our supermarkets, take-away food accessibility, or if you flick a match to light a cigarette.  Feel free to eat, drink and smoke anything that you want but know that is a major cause of cancer.

Many people believe that if anything does go wrong with their health, they can just go to the hospital and they would fix you.  It’s kind of risky relying on someone to prescribe a medication, surgery or intervention to counteract the effects of a decade or more of poor self-choices.

Even short-term successes can result in deficient long-term results without lifestyle changes.  Understand that nearly everything that we eat, drink and consume is loaded with dangerous chemicals, preservatives, colorings and addictive substances.

The vast majority of food products in a bag, can or box in the average supermarket are bad for one’s health. It’s not the supermarket’s fault; it’s consumer demand.  Supermarkets are businesses and will import, supply and sell products that consumers want.

Be aware that it is dangerous to eat and drink whatever you want without ever thinking if it is good for you or not. What you eat—and don’t eat—has a powerful effect on your health, including your risk of cancer. It may seem like an uphill battle but it actually starts with personal choices.

Up to one in six cancer deaths can be linked to physical inactivity according to a recent study published in The Lancet.  Dr. I-Min Lee, the lead researcher from Harvard Medical School said “only about one quarter of the world’s population smoke but about two thirds are inactive.”

It is recommended to exercise daily.  The easiest form of exercise is to go for a 15 to 30 minute walk.  It increases your heart rate, reduces inflammation, balances hormones and increases oxygen consumption in your body – all good for preventing cancer.

Cancer cannot be feared; it can be prevented.  It’s not genetics, victimhood or any self-limiting thought that produces cancer.  The vast majority of cancer is up to you, not your doctor.  The first line of defense is what’s on your plate, you’re choice to use tobacco and whether you engage in physical activity or not.

While I agree totally with the Dr….there are cases when the persons are very healthy in terms of their weight and choices of food…. and yet…cancer comes along. I know of men who do not eat meat, do not smoke..exercise and still….this cancer comes ‘a-knocking’…so right now I just believe that we may not even be sure what causes cancer.

Cancer thrives on animal protein… there are couple natural foods that research have shown to reduce and even eliminate cancer… So why is cancer soaring? People rather the taste of food in their mouth over their health and drug companies that make cancer meds love making money.. so when they say why why.. TELL ‘EM THAT ITS HUMAN NATURE..

Doctor, excellent article. Those who hear of this and read it should consider themselves fortunate. I do hope those who especially hear you and read your article will pay heed and for the good of their health will turn their life around.
Precaution is better than cure. Our lifespan may very well depend on the manner in which we live. It is said that some adults die prematurely; it is not only infants. It is really what goes into our bodies, what we eat which could keep us healthy.
In recent years I have made the observation that people donate exorbitant sums of money for cancer research. The government also donates from taxpayers’ money. Yet a cure has not been found for it. I have heard it is because they do not want to find a cure. They will no longer receive money and some of them, if not, most of them will be laid off, that it is not beneficial for the medical profession and those who perform the research. Someone once told me that he saw a TV program about a U.S. man who conducted a research/investigation after his father died of cancer. One of his findings was that there is a cure for cancer in the form of a small pill.
In the part of the world I reside in every year there is an annual public fundraising for cancer research. It is give, give, give that people get fed-up of giving since they also have their obligations to meet.
Frankly, I have stated that I will not give to cancer research. Some of this money is used for administrative costs and to invest in the Stock Exchange. I would prefer giving to someone whom I know has cancer or someone who is in need of help.
There are those who think that they must eat a big meal with a lot of meat to be satisfied. This does not prove that this type of meal will keep us healthy. It will keep our stomachs full and for a while. The more people eat, the more they will feel hungry and want to eat.
Moderation is the key word. A little of this and a little of that, the menu, fish especially, vegetables and fruits. Since our bodies consist of 60% water, it is important that we replenish it with water and not “Pop”. Once again, moderation is necessary. Water pumps the heart and water is necessary for the brains.
I have often thought that heart attacks and aneurisms may be attributed to lack of water. Water is also a good facial and body moisturizer.
I love natural resources. It is said that we should drink 6 to 8 glasses of water a day; not huge ones. Tea, especially herbal ones, milk, citrus fruits. Note that I did not state orange juice. Why? Because some people will purchase them in boxes or cans. We must eat/drink the real citrus fruits, grapefruits and oranges. We can squeeze them to make juice or simply eat them; one a day. Fresh ones are better than boxed and canned ones. They have no preservatives.
Let us face it, we will be answerable to God how we live and how we treat our bodies. I wish everyone well. God bless!

I think that you do not truly understand what ‘cancer research’ means. The correlations found between physical inactivity and cancer predisposition is a result of ‘cancer research’. It cost money and time. How do you think studies of any kind get done? I am sure you use medication – even over the counter. it was ‘research’ and investment from the public and private monies that resulted in being able to develop these medications.

Also, information about prevention – comes from ‘cancer research’ and therefore funds donated or awarded to clinicians, scientists and trainees to perform these studies. So as the Dr. Cory said, most cancers are life style driven, or the environment not genetic.

This statement alone is a result of 20-30 years of cancer research. The ‘cure’ is in prevention and early detection. Most people who are diagnosed early, are usually ‘cured’. Late stage diseases are hard to cure, as any other disease – heart, kidney, liver, diabetes etc.

So eating healthy, exercise, self-awareness (body) and knowing your family history about different diseases would decrease the incidence of these diseases. Information all obtained from the great work biomedical researcher are doing with ‘most’ of the money donated.

(Admin cost – like any entity is required, they cannot be doing research, and secretarial work, maintaining buildings and paying for utilities – when would they get to spend the 12-15hour days in the lab or office crunching numbers and data?).

I am old enough, experienced enough and well-read to know what cancer and cancer research is all about.
If you have a different view so be it but do not state that I do not know about cancer research.
Everyone who is sensible, educated and well-read are fully aware about cancer and cancer research and what causes cancer.
Furthermore, it is important for us to take charge of our bodies through living well including good nutrition. Furthermore, not everyone will develop cancer even though it is stated our bodies consist of the cell just as TB.
I reiterate that I will not give money to cancer research.
At this stage in my life I do not take medication. The day may come when I will have to take medication. Until such a time, I do not take any form of medication and not even an aspirin. I also take no vaccine to prevent a cold. This is a foreign substance in the body that I could do without. My home has no drugs/medication.
It is stated that the medicine we need is not in our bathroom cabinet but in our kitchen cupboards. If you have not yet heard of this, you now know it. Pass it on as well.
From youth parents must teach their children to eat properly and to live well. Some of us inherited it from our parents.
Today there is ample information on the Internet, TV and in the newspapers. We are more aware that it is imperative we take good care of our health.

Why is cancer so prevalent? Well lets see:
Adulterated food supply, GMO crops, chemtrails, cancer virus’ in vaccines, carcinogenic food containers and cooking containers and utensils., heavy metal toxicity, doctored public water supplies, toxic treatments for cancer, pesticides, herbicides, toxic agents, and the list goes on.

It’s amazing even in Dominica the number of persons between 2010-2012 have died with Cancer. It’s shocking, alarming, and frightening to hear. What can we do? The after care following surgery is critical.Treatment, follow-up care and transmission of information is slow and sometimes lacking. In Dominica we talk a whole lot, but I believe we are at the stage right now when action is needed. We need to be pro-active with care immediately after persons are diagnosed with the disease. We need to make our presence felt and try as much as possible to meet needs. If patients have to go overseas for treatment let it be swift. If they have to receive treatment here let it also be swift. Too much dragging of the feet, too much red tap. Let’s be real people cancer is a killer disease and early detection saves lives. My message to those who have the disease, please have a positive, mental attitude, have deep faith in God, and avoid all forms of stress.Change your lifestyle, change your diet and exercise. Please forgive and forget all those who have hurt you and if possible live at peace with everyone. God is an excellent God and the Bible says that by his stripes we are healed. Amen Let’s continue to be our brothers and sisters keepers. Look out for each other, encourage each other and pray for each other.WE CAN RISE FROM BEING A VICTIM TO A VICTOR IN JESUS NAME.

Although I do believe that everyone has a life span, nevertheless we could reduce this lifespan by not taking care of our health.
Get adequate amount of rest/sleep. Try to be happy and to be on good terms with all people. Enjoy a good clean joke. It is stated that “Laughter is the best Medicine.” I have an article on this which I clipped out from a newspaper.
The saying, “Smile and the whole world smiles with you. Cry and you cry alone.” The words of an old song: “… Smilers never lose and frowners never win.” Be positive yet speak the truth.
A dear lady telephoned me tonight. She will be 89 years in a few week’s. She is relatively healthy. Does not smoke or drink. A highly religious, prayerful lady, she is as jovial as ever and laughs a lot. I do think she inherited it from her late mother. We had a long chat, talking about age, how time flies and on other matters. This is the way to live. Be positive but speak and recognize the truth.

We have been putting money in cancer research for years and years and up till now no one has yet to come up with a cure. People die by the millions every day. People spend so much money on chemotherapy. have to spend money and go to different countries to get treatment and to die later. why they dont use some of that money to help people that cannot afford to pay their treatment bill. Is all that money just sitting somewhere? We are talking about millions and millions of dollars. This cancer research has been going on for decades.

It take more that just prescription drugs, calls for major life style changes, what one eats and drinks. we as a spices are too dependent on prescription drugs and believe they are the panacea.

They cannot do without all that rum and all that pork. you are what you eat, some of us became what our parents ate

Back to Eden and God’s original diet for man is essential in cancer prevention. NUts, grains, fruits and vegetables. Stay away from canned and fast foods, meat, maggi cube, which contains MSG which is a cancer causing agent. We have become very greedy, destroying God’s temple in the process. Whether therefore you eat or drink do all to the glory of God (1Corinthians 10:31). Today we are told to eat anything because food does not defile us. The truth of the matter is we defile our bodies more with the substances that we take into it.We were only allowed certain meats after the flood, God who created us knows exactly what is good for us and since we openly violate His commands we are reaping the consequences of our actions. Here is the conclusion of the whole matter fear God and keep His commandments for this is the whole duty of man (Eccliiastes12:13).If we obey our maker He will heal us from all these diseases.

“but not forget about our personal responsibility to take care of ourselves to the best of our ability. The health system relies on the treatment of cancer versus the prevention of it”.

As far as having faith in the health system (business) not I. But your statement quoted above is correct. People should focus more on preventive measures as opposed to curative measures. I am not saying to ignore curative measures if you are at that stage, but as the adage goes prevention is always better than cure.

If you don’t take care of yourself, who will?

What do you mean by being sarcastic? Just as it will take care of you and everyone else. This too, is a money-making business. Note the high cost of burials. The owners are elated when people die. It is good for business.
