Cool Condom – flavored and being promoted as a useful tool in the fight against HIV/AIDS was officially launched on Tuesday here by the Dominica Planned Parenthood Association (DPPA).
DPPA officials told members of the media that if used correctly and consistently, condoms have a 97 per cent chance of protecting users against sexually transmitted diseases (STD) and HIV/AIDS.
The DPPA is promoting the flavored condom that it says can be used for both oral and full sexual intercourse.
On hand for the launch was Trinidadian Kevon Foderingham of Population Services International (PSI), who disclosed that his organization supports the sales of over 15 brands of condoms, the latest being Cool.
He said PSI was pushing Cool “because of the need of a high quality, affordable condom”.
“Cool is really really good … it comes in six flavors and is lubricated,” he told those attending the launch of the product.
It is already available on store shelves in St Vincent and the Grenadines, St Lucia, Trinidad and Suriname, and is about to be introduced in Grenada and Antigua.
“Hopefully it is going to be launched in all of the islands soon,” the PSI official indicated.
