Grand Bay health center bring smiles to elderly couple

Grand Bay health team with Mr. and Mrs. Williams.

On December 24, 2010, staff of the Grand Bay health center gave Philomen Williams and her husband a food and toiletries hamper/basket.

Mrs. William is an  elderly lady who lives alone with her husband in a old wooden structure in Highland.  Although elderly and poor, their surrounding is clean and filled with beautiful flowers.  Having suffered a stroke recently Mrs. Williams can hardly speak, but on receiving her gift basket her eyes lit up and she clearly mumbled the words ‘thank you’.

This was a first as the team at the Grand Bay health centre bring not only health to all, but lots of smiles.

Oh, what a wonderful gesture !! You could not have chosen a more deserving couple as recipients. May God continue to guide and bless our community. We will forever remain proud Grand-Barians and Dominicans. Together, we can change the world.

PS: I am pleased that Gaynproud is pleased with the positive news from Grand Bay. What a remarkable turnaround in less than 48 hours. If we continue sowing good seeds, we will reap good fruits.

They the grandbay haters don’t like the positive side. That’s why they always try to bury us with the lil negative.Hat’s off to the health sector and the grandbay community on a whole for looking out for the elderly and poor.We will always take care of our own as it has been from ancient times.Such positive news to know love and respect is still a priority in our community.Hats off also to Pal rep Nurse Charles who despite her position always have time to visit and sit with elderly sick and those in need.Amazing woman to be still playing nurse between all her other duties, that is love for community. There hasn’t been a death in the village tragic or of natural causes that Justina doesn’t show up to console and lend a hand.Even the shooting death of isola and josiah she was at the parents home the very next day.Now that is dedication to communty.Put that in all u pipe and smoke it (the rest of the pal reps of d/a).Nuff Respect Justina!!!!!!!!

Love my people, love my village and love my country. Grand Bay has the potential and propensity to do and produce great men and do great things. My people have always been kind to their very own, but unfortunately, the leaders of the country treat Grand Bayrians like a bastard community.

So true. The treatment may be because Grand Bayrians refuse to be ‘slaves’ and be humble

Compliments of the Season! God’s peace be with you! This story surely warms my heart. This is the kind of godly gesture which God is pleased with and will most certainly reward in His own good time for God rewards the good and punishes the wicked.
Take care of the elderly and sick. Do not allow them to be lonely. Help them as you possibly could. If you do so with a cheerful, patient heart, God will bless you two-fold. If you continue doing this and never get tired of it, rest assured that your place in Heaven is secured.
I will tell you a story. As a young teenager when I resided in Dominica, there was an elderly widow who would go shopping and carried a heavy basket on her head. If my father saw her he would ask us, the children who were present to assist her. We would carry her basket to her home. If my father was not present and we saw her when she was walking by with her heavy load, we would offer to assist her. I once volunteered to her home and cleaned her house which I did.
My father taught us much, not only in words but in examples. To this day, residing in Canada, I offer to help especially the elderly, those who appear to be loaded with groceries or heavy parcels be it to the bus stop where they will take a bus. I also offer in the grocery store to assist them if they have difficulty in placing the groceries in their bags.
When people stop me for advice, be it the time, for bus routes or certain locations, I am ever too happy to assist them. If I do not know the location I inform them to call the relevant office for advice. I do not lead people astray in any respect. My aim is to help people.
We are all God’s children. We are not hear for ourselves. We must be alert to assist people and ever ready to assist those who are in need.
Yes! Especially in a bigger country we must be careful. However, I do feel the Holy Spirit will assist us to help accordingly. In the same manner, He will assist us to either speak up or keep our mouths shut under certain circumstances as we pray to Him for guidance.
Faith, hope and trust in God! Love and patience are godly attributes, a few fruits and virtues of the Holy Spirit.
If people possess the blessing and grace of God, this is what they will do. It will be no big effort or feat on their part.
I heard a woman state that her family neglected her for Christmas. I was on my way out to Christmas dinner. I consoled her. I saw her the following day and she told me it is her birthday and that she is 60 years, December 26th. I know where she resides. I wrote a Christmas card wishing her a Happy New Year as well and wrote a birthday card to her, placed some religious articles in it with a note informing her ” we are all God’s chldren…” I knocked on her door but did not receive a reply. I pushed it under her door. I have a gift for her and will give it to her when I see her. I had also bought some candy cane for her granddaughter. The stories are many which could be written into a book.
This woman is not a friend of mine, if you know what I mean but an associate, a person whom I see occasionally and who says “hello” to me and vice versa.
In the end, we must never forget that we are human beings and what we sow we shall surely reap. We who are Christians must also keep in mind that God is watching and taking note of our actions, in thoughts, words and deeds. Our actions will also depend on how we age graciously and healthily.
We are aging and we know not what will happen to us and how we will age.
Our Lord said: “Love God with all our heart and soul and love one another as we love ourselves.” One does not go without the other. For the love of God, It is imperative that we help others as we possibly could.
In every village, every Dominican could help others. Be aware of the needs of specifically the elderly. Do not exclude the youths. This is how we could help each other.
We do not have to depend on the government to do everything for we are the citizens of a country. If citizens help each other and contribute their fair share to society, they, too, will reap the benefits.
If we want a fair, just, safe and progressive society, we are obligated to contribute to same.
God bless all and may you have a Happy, Healthy, Peaceful New Year! These are my wishes for my fellow Dominicans. I love you! I love Dominica!

Good Dea! This is the Grand Bay I grew-up in. Our people are a humble tribe who has always look out for their neighbors. Grand Bayrians know what it is to be an independent-minded people, they have seen hard times and good times, and know when it is time to take action. I call on all concerned citizens to continue to give help and respect the elders, avoid the dirty politics that is tearing our country and stand-up, demand empowerment for Grand Bay.
