Health Minister, Dr. Kenneth Darroux, is of the opinion that the health sector, despite challenges, is better today than it was ten years ago.

Speaking on Kairi’s Heng Program on Wednesday, he said the island now has more doctors, better diagnostic capacity in terms of CT Scan and state of the art x-ray machines.

“We’ve invested millions of dollars in health over the past ten years or so and we are in a much better state now than we were ten years ago,” he stated.

He noted that the government will continue to invest in the health sector.

“That is why sometimes when people talk you ask them to go do the research,” Darroux noted.

To drive home his point, he said he was visited recently by a young lady who graduated in the US in lab work and was seeking a job.

He stated that the young lady was impressed when she visited the lab at the Princess Margaret Hospital.

“Unlike people who like to cry, yes, I look at the glass half filled,” Darroux remarked. “Meaning that yes, we still have some way to go but I don’t think it is fair to be crying it down to make it appear that we are at the bottom of the rung as it pertains to health services.”

Mr. Darroux if you are talking about the hospital is better now than ten years ago – i agree with you. The ” hospital is now “better” as a place to legal go to , to die. Have you listen to the radio death annoucements? 95% of it say “died at the hospital. Sir – let me suggest that you do a small survey – find out how many persons are admitted to the hospital on a monthly/yearly basis – how many were discharged and how many died. what is the ratio, what was the cause of death, was there sickeness curable?
speak to the few that are lucky to be alive and hear of the horrible stories. If you don’t believe them then please admit yourself to any of the wards and stay for one little week then report back to us. If you say that it is better than 10 years ago then we may believe you. What i know is that the nurse are fed up. they are stressed.

Sir Mr. Minister – the hospital that are lying about is now become a place of death. You check in to check out

Mr Darroux the problem is that the so called doctors are so full of themselves that they walk around the hospital with their gown so everyone can see them rather than tending to their patients .These young doctors need to go back to the drawing boards. I saw with my own eyes the carelessness of a so called female doctor.Lord if it was me or my sister…….None if these dogtors are touching me. I will settle for the older ones and more experience ones Amen.

:?: I’m calling on this mediocre minister parents who profess to be goodly people to help their dearest only son out of this rogue situation he has put himself in,cause he’s losing it! How can your health care system doing better with the closing down of health centers and hospital, more people are amputated, more deaths, you are really losing it and deserve some mental care, you must be smoking more cigarettes now?

  5. “Health Minister, Dr. Kenneth Darroux, is of the opinion that the health sector, despite challenges, is better today than it was ten years ago.”

Darroux when a man does not know better; he believes anything that look good, or sounds good to him, he tends to believe his own very lie! How can the Health Sector be better of today than ten years ago, when we saw the Marigot Hospital went into a dilapidated, irreparable state?

Your Government is in power for the past ten years, if you were insinuating since the Labor Party took over since the days of the coalition, that would not even make sense. When you wish to try and fall the gullible you must remember all of us Dominicans are not idiots, some of us are very knowledgeable, and perhaps if you were capable of presenting some statistics: Present us with a graph, of a rise and fall or high and low may maybe after analyzing, people like me might believe your lie!

Do you know how to coordinate a graph? Present one with some…

Reading this article just makes me laugh. I must be dreaming.

The health center in Roseau does not have any hepatitis B booster shots as they have passed the expiration date.

When you call PMH radiology department to schedule an appointment for a CT scan you are given a date almost two months from the day that you call even when you inform the person whom you are talking with that the doctor’s request states “stat”. (In medical terminology that means immediately.) You are then told that the doctor who wrote the request will have to speak directly with the radiologist in order to get an earlier date.

I could go on and on but will end here before my blood pressure rises and I wind up being a patient at PMH.

At a minimum for a qualified doctor Darroux could have at least presented some statistics to support his assertions. Ten years ago no doctor in any senior position would have made such a statement without some supporting evidence. One fact is that the leadership in health care is worse. That no one can deny.

Dr Daraux, what do you expect the lady who was trained in the US and who want a job to tell you, She wants a job and will tell you for obvious reasons that the hospital lab has the best equipment. You must get an opinion from a person with no interest in working there to provide an assessment of the lab. She must have also told you that you are the best minister of health she have encountered and or seen in the world.

Better than when? Not according to the real statistics that is available. Not according to recent statements coming from international agencies such as PAHO. Not according to Dr.Etienne ‘s statement that Dominica is sitting on a health volcano ! Not according to the realities on the ground , a whole hospital in the north east shut down due to termite infestation, while type three health center in Newtown followed the same fate. Meanwhile the main hospital is invaded with pigeons and rodents and linking roofs. Dominica has one of the highest rates of amputations in the region due to diabities. Cancer related deaths are at an all time high. Hypertension is common; then we have poor solid and liquid waste management. I honestly think the Minister would be better off dealing with the realities of bitcoins rather than dealing with the realities of the health sector. If our state of health is better now I honestly do not want to know what it was like ten years ago.

Yes Minister! Facts are stubborn things, my friend. you cant provide the basics necessities to run a hospital, and you saying it is better than 10 Years ago? Next level for sure, we are going to need a 6 feet ladder to bring us up from that hole.

  18. July 14, 2016

Kenneth Darroux and PM are full of themselves and believed that they can continue fooling the people over and over again and again and get away with it, but we shouldn’t blame them the people accept their attitude and refuse to hold them accountable for the developing of the Island.

      July 16, 2016

Trust me! You are so right on them being FULL of themselves! Especially Darroux. You have to live in the south to witness it. This once humble man (or so it seemed) has become so arrogant. it’s upsetting. I think that their arrogance is hindering their ability to be the people’s people. PM and his cabinet need to PLEASE come back down to earth where the rest of the people who voted them, to serve them, still exist#

  22. July 14, 2016

Hell no, wondering what health care you are talking about mister minister, if so why is it that people are wrongly diagnosed in Dominica and is only when they are at the doorsteps of death they are being told what is exactly wrong with them, Mr Health Minister if such is the case, why is it that whenever the Skerrit c ronies have a headache they are running to the neighboring French Island and elsewhere, Darroux fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me, Darroux the truth is that the health care system in Dominica sucks period, too many people are being hiven false medical report in Dominica, go figure itvout Mr Minister of Health

Its an evil way of fooling the poor unsuspecting few who depends on the handout because hey have been driven to the lowest. What you expect from the Minister when some Dominicans eyes are behind their backs? When they are suffering and are made to think things are nice it is worse elsewhere than in Dominica, that their (government) wealth and riches is deserving of more wealth and the poor people can’t earn their own bread? What you expect from these down right wicked politicians who came to drain out the blood from Dominicans sucking the country dry. We ask everyday why so many people are dieing quickly. in short time, helplessly, cannot be diagnosed because of the mal mele situation in Dominica. Doctor stop fooling us. Where is your Leader Prime Minister, why is he always out of the country? We have no Leader the man outside globe trotting, what do you say about that? Our health sector sucks
