Health personnel met Friday to discuss the matter, a meeting which marked the continuation of a project launched last year, to educate Dominicans on living healthy.
With assistance from a United States institution, ‘East Carolina University’, health officials last year compiled a publication entitled: “Sisserou talks about health and nutrition”.
Senior community health nurse Florestine Lewis, who represented Francisca Jacob, director of primary health care at Friday’s workshop, said the work of community health aides is vital in ensuring a healthy population.
“Anytime we can give them more knowledge, we are empowering them and I know for sure that the nutrition education that they received last year went a long way in enhancing the quality of information that they provided for the clients and the community,” Lewis noted.
But she emphasized the cases of CNCDs are a problem for the society, saying it is “is one of the leading causes of death in our island and anything that we can do to put a dent in that would go a long way in reducing the mortality… from these conditions.”
