More HIV cases reported for first quarter of 2015

hiv-aidsThe National HIV/AIDS Unit is reporting seven to eight new cases of the deadly virus, HIV, which causes AIDS, in Dominica for the first quarter of 2015.

This is being described as “unfortunate” since basically the country registers 16 to 19 cases per year.

“So if we have already seven cases for the year, we know that by the end of the year there will be a lot more,” Lester Guy of the National HIV/AIDS Unit said at the opening of the Dominica State College’s (DSC) Annual Health Fair on Tuesday.

“Right now in Dominica, for 2015, we have had at least seven to eight new cases,” he said. “It is unfortunate because we are just in the first quarter of the year. Normally we have had 16 to 19 cases every year in Dominica, which is unfortunate for us because we are a very small country… In Dominica we have, at least, during the past years, 418 cases and right now persons who are admitted in care, who are coming to the clinic that we have, is about 85 to 100 persons.”

He stated that the disease is also common among migrants in Dominica.

“Also we have had issue with our increased migrant population, so that means persons who are coming into Dominica, who are not Dominicans by birth or who have not lived in Dominica for the past 10 years, we have persons who are coming here with that,” he stated.

Additionally he mentioned that the country’s youth, who are considered most at risk, “are some of the ones who are also affected.”

The Annual Health Fair is being held under the theme: “A Home Run to Health”.

Some people use this Website as a sounding board for their frustrations which they direct at others.
Some of you try to suppress others from stating the truth. God wants the truth to be told without watering it down Educate yourself!
It is a downright disgrace that D/ca has HIV. It has exposed those who contracted it as living an abnormal lifestyle. They in turn passed it on to those who were not aware they had it. This is the sad part.
In a Christian country, Dominica has Planned Parenthood which no doubt distributes contraception to everyone who approaches them. Planned Parenthood also encourages abortions. It has yet to prevent people contracting HIV.
If you want to know more about Planned Parenthood and the truth of it, go to especially some of the U.S. Catholic Websites. One is http://www.ewtn.com where you may see some articles and the fight against Planned Parenthood which, as I stated, provides contraception and encourages abortion. This is a curse on D/ca.

      The Facts:

Thank you for speaking out against Planned Parenthood.

I was surprised to learn that this organization is in Dominica. They do abortions where it is legal. Where it is not legal thy work to have the laws changed. They advocate for amoral sex education in the schools.

Planned Parenthood promotes abortion in black communities in the USA. This is done to reduce the number of black babies being born. If anybody does not believe me I urge you to go online and study the sick racist philosophy that was the driving force behind Planned Parenthood in its earliest years. In a black country they hire enough black people to make themselves acceptable. But nothing has changed. If abortion is illegal in Dominica they will busy themselves helping poor families to make it look like that is what they are there for. But behind the scenes they will be working to have abortion legalized so they can open abortion “clinics”.

Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. International Evangelist.

Lets hear it from the educated & religious moral gang.As long as we are humans we will have sex, educated or not religious or not. HIV/AIDS is still a worldwide problem not just a third world problem. Again lets hear it from the educated & religious moral gang, you should be ashamed of yourselves.

      Ashamed of ourselves? Hardly!

Evangelical churches and Christian Ministries like the one of which I am the executive director – Living Hope Ministries – are teaching the moral code God gave us for sexual behavior in the New Testament.

      Romans 1:26,27.

      1 Corinthians 6:8,9.

      Galatians 5:19-21.

Those who follow this teaching are not the people who are becoming infected with HIV/AIDS. They are often the ones who are giving their money and their time to build and operate homes and treatment centers for AIDS victims in their homeland and in foreign countries.

A cure for AIDS may be a long way off. Until then we believe and teach the only sure way to avoid the disease is to practice abstinence before marriage and chastity after marriage. In places where we have been able to introduce the faith based abstinence program the rate of HIV infections has dropped significantly.

Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill, D.D., International Evangelist.

For a small country as D/ca, I wished it were exempt from HIV. Sadly, it is too late. It only takes one person who arrived in D/ca to give it to someone and then spread it to sexual partners.
Once contracted, through medical care, it could be stabilized but there is no cure for HIV. We know it is a deadly disease.
HIV is a scourge from the twentieth to twenty-first century. As the years progress, I expect that it will spread more and more. The more godless, the more it will spread.
Ensure the children are properly educated about this incurable scourge.
The answer is not bombarding them with preventatives, saying they must protect themselves. Educate them about abstinence. Those who are godly and church-going should know this and abstain from sex until they get married. Pray to God and He will help you to abstain.

I cant believe the amount of non-sense l am reading here. Who is coming and going out of the country may be a point to consider, but the problem requires everyone to take this disease very seriously, and government intervention should have more meaning to its citizens that they are at the helm of it. This is a serious problem, and everyone should take it as such because studies especially in the Caribbean area shows that it is growing, there is a new strain, and it is even (becoming) more difficult to treat, and we all know that there is absolutely no cure for this terrible disease. So all the hog wash needs to stop, and mote effort on
meaning, responsibility, and education about life and health be the goal.

Yes of course you must get an exam and a HIV test to become a Dominican! But I didn’t see any comments about the people that are entering back door? Or the ones who overstay? But anyone who would have unsafe sex will have to suffer the consequences. In a country with such a tiny population this is a very high rate.

The best thing is to live a godly life and to abstain from promiscuity, premarital sex and infidelity for married people.
Thou shalt not fornicate. Why do I know? Because the Bible tells me so.

Sandra, if this is your real name, always throwing words at people you do not know. When people as you make certain comments, DNO leaves no space to respond. You deserve a response. Practice these principles:
Do not accuse and judge those whom you do not know and what you do not know about them for you will be judged two-fold.
You know very well the cause of HIV. I accused no one directly. You are ignorant to accuse someone you do not know.
How do you expect to please God? If you cannot get along with people on this earth and throw words at them, you may never get to Heaven. Change your ways!
You must be guilty of sexual acts why you got highly offended and made that comment. You gave yourself away.
God knows you and your lifestyle.
Speak for yourself; save your soul and mind your own business. I am stating it mildly.            …

        The Facts:

Your comment contains the only answer to the problem of AIDS. It is straight from them Bible. Vaccines, pills, and ”cocktails” supress the symptoms and slow down progress of the disease. Millions will be spent on research while the epidemic continues to spread and multitudes more die. A cure may be years away although I hope not.

But if people would ”abstain from promiscuity, premarital sex and infidelity” the spread of HIV would drop significantly in five years time and AIDS would disappear from the face of the earth in earth in thirty or forty years.

Yes, ”the Bible tells me so.” I refer you to Matthew 19:4-6, Romans 1:26,27, 1 Corinthians 6:9,10, 1 Corinthians 6:18, Galatians 5:19-21. This is God’s moral code for sexual behaviour in the New Testament.

Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. International Evangelist.

Solid point Joe! But if I may add to ur pt the ones who have $ and maybe carrying the Virus spread the love virus as help to the shirtless ones or should I say dressless or skirtless one. Business has increased over the rising economic woes. Simple thing such as top ups are paid in kind.sad but more than true.
Most females in DA today have 2-3 cell phones to avoid clashes with incoming calls from sugar daddies. Think of groceries ,rent money, cable, transportation be it private cars which need fuel public transport it cost a lot. Someone finances those bills which can add up to 1000’s at month end. not forgetting $$ 4 all the ever increases in the frequencies of the Sewos new dress new pant ,shoes etc purse for every shoe.
$$ talks and infidelity rolls. so if either party has the virus pop goes somebody’s wheeze.

    • The Facts
      April 23, 2015

Why would anyone use the economy as a scapegoat for promiscuity? They are fools to do that. If per chance the economy is bad and people are feeling the crunch (no exception in other countries of the world) why would they resort to that for relief? It is only a band-aid; temporary.
Do they not know to turn to God for consolation and help? The problem with some people is, they rather turn to sin than to God. They will experience no permanent relief from their dilemmas. Consider how sin highly offends Him.
Anyway, I have never heard of such foolishness. It is foolish to want relief from the economy in such a manner.
The economy should not be blamed. People are responsible for themselves. Their attitude and lifestyle are to be blamed. No one else.
Why are some happier than others, no matter what they have? Some of them, take it to the Lord in prayer – their woes, difficulties, obstacles and struggles.
      Psalm 23 – The Lord is my Shepherd . . .

    # (1) I am lost for words, seems like educational info and lectures can’t get through our heads, some of us look at pretty girls with a big SMILE, and handsome boys with a killer SWAG, therefore that is enough to trust as far as having unprotected sex? wow..

    # (2) Some of the comments on this topic makes little or no sense, first of all we seem to condemn, and put blame on others knowing that we should take responsibility for our own carelessness, HIV/AIDS is not something that can be bought like a blackberry phone, it is not painted on ones face. But if we fail to be responsible for our own lives then, relationships will become a big taboo without value. Because the ones we trust seem not to care for living respectfully, Why not allow the innocent and faithful to live a blissful life without fear…

Education is available to the one in search of wisdom, and knowing the value of life.

    God help your children..

The sad part is, the fingers are pointed at everyone as probably having contracted HIV. In this era there is no trust; no one can be trusted. Is this not a sad state of affairs Dominica and the rest of the world are in?
It is also shocking that some people have brought this upon themselves and the world – homosexuality!!! HIV commences with an “H”. This has been the primary cause of this dilemma which has contaminated the world. Do not hide this fact. Call it the homosexual scourge.

Dominicans has lost their way, they love money, immorality and have a passion for begging… poverty is one of the main cause of sexual promiscuity. the young ladies need to have a partner for a cell phone support, hair do, cloths, shoes.. it will only get worst because people need money and the unemployment rate is astronomical for a tiny population as our… and t add insult to injury, young ladies may have to give help to receive help from certain ministers..

so wait, let me get this straight–people can ‘buy’ their Dominican passports without undergoing medical/physical exams as part of their entry requirements–and denial if they test positive?

guess what will happen when all the diseased worldwide realize they can emigrate and get virtually free care and can also go on to potentially infect the populace? they kept out west africans under fear of possible ebola for 2014 creole fest but are leaving the doors wide open for foreigners with hiv/aids?

INSANITY! why is Dominica being destroyed on all fronts?

    • Uneededucation
      April 22, 2015

First of all, not all non-nationals that come here “buy” passports. They can enter as residents and must reapply any pay Inland Revenue every year. Residency also requires a health certificate showing results of medical/physical exams and an HIV test is one of them. I don’t know how strict they are with their long list of requirements. And maybe…just maybe these non-nationals are having sex with nationals that are already infected and it is being spread….just saying. And how about all those “national” men that are frequenting with the Spanish women??? It goes ’round and ’round I would presume!

      • omg

You can rest assured they will not leave Canada which has free medical care unless they are D/cans who return home, be it on vacation
Dominica appears to have an influx of immigrants, the likes of which did not occur prior to the earthquake in Haiti.
Dominica now has foreign students. While their student applications are being processed, they should be required to take an HIV test and provide a medical certificate. Whoever arrives in D/ca to live there and is not a born D/can should be tested for HIV.
Pertaining to your last sentence, you should conduct a survey to find out how many are living in godliness. How many are going to church and praying for their nation and for themselves? Maybe you should start a campaign about that and encourage them to live a godly life.

        The Facts:

        This is true.

Yet people would rather ignore God\’s moral code, refuse to obey the simplest health laws, and put their trust in injections, pills, and potions. They continue to hope for a \”scientific\” answer while they take a \”live and let live\” attitude towards the sodomites, and celebrate buggery as the new equality.

While they raise money for AIDS research the HIV epidemic continues to spread and thousands die. WORLD AIDS DAY comes and goes each year with its parades and rallies while they avoid any confrontation with the GREAT PHYSICIAN (Jesus Christ) and refuse to acknowledge His claims.
