NATURAL HEALING: Life according to natural laws

Lucia John, PhD

Editor’s note: Dominica News Online is delighted to bring you the first of weekly articles on Holistic Health to be written by various practitioners in that field.  The articles will be published every Saturday. Our first contributor is Dr. Lucia John who holds a PhD in Vedic Science and Technology.

The entire universe functions according to laws set in motion by the Creator, for the smooth functioning of every Kingdom of the earth and every strata of every kingdom; the violation of these laws knowingly or unknowingly results in stress, premature aging, illness and death.

By definition, Natural Laws are a body of unchanging moral principles regarded as a basis for all human conduct.

In the creation of the earth, first the Mineral kingdom was created to provide a structural basis for the world to exist. Then the Plant Kingdom, which depends upon the Mineral Kingdom for its existence and sustenance and provides the atmospheric conditions suitable for life to exist. Next, there is the Animal Kingdom which provides food, clothing, and in their own way, help to maintain balance in nature. The next kingdom is that of Man – The Human Kingdom.

The human being is the most advanced species on earth and has been given guardianship over all the other kingdoms on earth. Such is the enormous responsibility given to humankind by God. When he fails in his responsibility, he loses the natural way to live and creates havoc in his own life and in the life of the earth and the entire cosmos.

Deep within us, we are all united in one great Divine Unity, and it is that Divine Unity that each and every one of us was asked to seek while still alive and here on earth. When nature is balanced, man is happy, creative, and productive. Happiness is an inner state. Happiness exists within us and Bliss which is concentrated happiness, exists at the core of our being at the level of Silence, Stillness. This state is no longer mystical, it can be measured by science and has been quantified by scientific research.

Our outer life is active, but our inner life is silent, still. This is why, in order to experience inner life, we MUST ‘Be Still’. Outer life is relative, Inner Life is Absolute. Absolute is beyond the relative. To experience the Absolute, the mind must transcend or go beyond the relative, or all active levels of the mind. To transcend means to go beyond and experience the Silence within. In order for outer life to be peaceful and successful, it must be supplemented by inner life. Activity has to be supported by silence. We see this duality of silence and activity in everything we do. When we speak, we have words and pauses. If there are no pauses or pauses in the wrong places, what we say cannot be understood. When we walk, the foot on the ground is as if in silence, and the other foot is in motion or activity, It depends on the silence or stability of the foot on the ground to make a step. If the foot on the ground is not stable, we fall. We have night and day, periods of rest and activity, so all of nature, including mankind can go to sleep and be refreshed for the next day of activity and progress. When humankind violate these laws, sleep loses its effectiveness and stresses are carried on and accumulated from day to day. Man’s progress is stunted.

The human being is made up of body, mind, emotion and soul or spirit. These parts function in harmony for perfect holistic health or wholeness, holiness. Any imbalance results in discomfort, dis-ease, progressive decay and death.

The body functions at an ideal temperature, 96-97 degrees F or so. If we increase this temperature for any reason, we are said to have a fever. If we lower the temperature by even a few degrees, there is also danger of illness. We know that only too well as in the case of the common cold. When we are well rested, and experiencing inner peace, we feel good, we make right choices, we do the right things to have good circumstances for ourselves, others and for society. Whenever we are stressed, that peace is lost, it is replaced by restlessness, anxiety, anger, depression etc. Our mind is clouded and we make mistakes and do wrong things.

When the body functions properly, health is good. All the systems in the body function in harmony, there are no symptoms of illness. The individual experiences happiness, bliss, and peace of mind. When we get stressed and start making mistakes through negative thoughts, foul language, wrong actions and wrong intentions, the harmony is broken. It is as if each system, each organ, each cell in the body is functioning on its own like an orchestra warming up and all you hear is discordant noise.

Whenever we drink icy cold water, we are going against the natural laws of the body and bringing the overall temperature down. The blood becomes thick in lower temperatures and cannot circulate properly especially to and from the extremities of the body. The result is numbness, tingling, pain, swelling; disease sets in. Because of the thickness of the blood, the heart must exert great effort to pump it throughout the body and we get a reading of High Blood Pressure, chronic disease is setting in.

The stomach needs energy to digest our foods, and energy needs oxygen rich blood flowing. If we just drank icy cold water, the blood will not be flowing as it should, so there will be less energy, and digestion cannot produce the end product. This digestion will be a flop and we say we have an indigestion. The half digested food is stored without becoming what it should have been broken down into and the body stores it anyway because it has very little choice. The next meal is coming very soon. We start to put on weight. The organs like the Gall Bladder and the Pancreas which secrete the bile and insulin to aid in digestion must produce twice and three times the amount of digestive fluids needed to make a try at digestion and most of the time, they fail in their efforts, hence all the indigestion we see around us.

We know that the blood starts clotting if it is not at its ideal temperature, if it is not circulating properly, or if it is stagnating. Sometimes we can get the systems in the body so tired that they simply cannot function, and this can have similar effects as drinking icy cold water. In other words we stress the body in anyway, and we may have a similar outcome. Stressed individuals create a stressed society and crime is the result. It is a law of nature. If we run a car without resting it, or run it without oil in the engine, or use wrong mixtures of gas, or low gas or no gas, that car will break down before long. The same with the body. Just as the cells and organs and systems make up a human body, even so, individuals make up the society, the nation.

When the society is filled with crime, it is possible to bring back harmony by having at least 1 percent of that society practicing deep Transcendental Meditation in groups and experiencing the silence within. More than 600 independent scientific studies have been conducted at about 250 independent research institutions and universities like Yale, Harvard and Columbia, to verify the benefits. Children are especially sensitive to stress, and we need to teach them to experience silence so they can grow into mature, fulfilled individuals.

Proper care and proper use of the body and mind result in balance. Intuitively, we know what is right to do, because being made in the image and likeness of God, we are always in contact and in connection with Him. The problem is, are we consciously aware of that link? Are we quiet enough within to be able to listen to His still, soft voice within our hearts. Are we able to listen at all? The condition is to be peaceful within. We may be in the busiest market and we may be as noisy as a stadium during a match, if we are peaceful within, we will always be aware of God’s guidance. It is a deep knowing that is way beyond all manner of understanding or intellectual discourse.

We can easily cultivate this peacefulness within by practicing the inner stillness, silence, every day, day and night, morning and evening. The transcendental Meditation Technique is the most effortless and effective technique for allowing the mind to experience that state of inner peace, develop the full potential of the mind, so the silence within can enrich the activities of everyday life.

I notice that my comment was not included. Is it because it was too negative? I asked what is the science this cold water belief is based on and how long water remains cold in the human body to cause all the damage referred to. What happens to Eskimos etc. who live in cold climates?

Dear Samantha, I will respond directly to your comment. In my next article, I will try to respond to as many comments as I can.

If you have a bowl of cow’s blood that you bought at the market to make black pudding, while it is liquid, take the temperature, you will find that so long as it is warm, it will be fluid. If you put one cube of ice in it, then it changes, it begins to become thick and to clot.

The same thing happens in the human body. If you take ice cold drinks or water when the atmosphere outside of the body is already cold, the effects are even more dramatic. You feel so cold that it is almost impossible to regain your warmth instantly. Have we not all experienced this?

The Eskimos in the Arctic do not eat ice. They are very careful to keep inside their bodies warm. This is how they stay alive.

For those who have travelled from Dominica to any cold country during Winter, the experience is that you can hardly warm yourself regardless of the layers of clothes you have on. The normal thing to do is to go a little before Winter and allow the body to create a layer of fat under the skin to protect the body from the cold.

Cold inside the body and cold outside the body are different things.
Cold inside bring about most of the problems you see today. The changing of the temperature of the blood is almost instantaneous. More on that in my next article. Cold outside, you can easily adapt to with clothing, drinking hot or warm fluids etc. Research this a bit more on your own until you understand. It is good to ask questions and all questions are smart questions.

This claim about cold water not being good for you is nonsensical. Let’s ask ourselves what is the science this is based on. And how long will water remain cold in the human body to cause all these health problems that lead to stressed body and crime? Stewps.

Since some people don’t get it, let me explain. It is not smart to believe something until you have evidence to support it. If the author of the article has the evidence, great. I see very little so far and a number of claims made in the article are either supernatural or otherwise extraordinary. Yes, there is some correct biology but I want more. I do not believe in something because it “sounds smart” or because a PhD says it or because some man down the road says it’s true. I am skeptical of all claims and you should be as well. If Dominicans were more prone to examining what they are told we would be much better off in many areas of life, from politics to religion to “natural healing.” This is not an attack on the article’s topic but on its lack of sources and evidence to confirm its claims.

This is a great piece! I’m all for inner peace, and your statement, “We may be in the busiest market and we may be as noisy as a stadium during a match, if we are peaceful within, we will always be aware of God’s guidance” speaks volume. I believe that once we master this ‘inner peace’ we become “one with the universe,” and no noise is loud enough to disturb that peace.

Mouth From The South, I am not saying since we are going to die,we should just go about abusing our bodies,no, no.
What I am saying is the real source of pain, suffering and death came from the garden when Adam and Eve chose to disobey God.That is why judgement was pronounced on them.
To the woman God said “I will greatly multiply your sorrow and your conception. In pain you shall bring forth children.”
And to the man God said “Cursed is the ground for your sake;…You shall toil all the days of your life, till your body return to the ground, for out of it you were taken.”
Dr John talked about peace, happiness and a stress free life but these can be found in the Lord Jesus Christ, since He is the Prince of Peace. He said “Be still and know that I Am God”..Psalm 46:10.To all those who are saved We are told, “Stop worrying but instead take all our cares and needs to our God in pray..Philippians 4:6.
Christ came and reversed what Adam did in the Garden.
Friends, we need the salvation Christ is offering here and now.It makes no sense to toil and suffer here on earth only to face an eternity in the LAKE OF FIRE, Revelation 20:11-15

Just because we have trained our minds over the years to accept certain notions, and beliefs we can be skeptical but at least embrace information and allow our inquiring minds to sieve through what works for us. The very scientist who held steadfast to certain theories that we hold on to are the ones questioning those and many more. Dominicans it’s ok to have a different thought process. It’s ok to question and form our own conclusions that guide our personal lives, but in so doing we must learn to respect others who have chosen to do so ending with another point of belief.

holistic healing is the way…. it’s of african origin… our fore fathers had all the remedies to our diseases… the real father of medicine Imhotep… cured many illnesses which europeans right now always seem to be ‘researching’… to research means to seek what u have no knowledge of…. and european fraternities dismissed our ancestors findings as ‘myth’… and give us synthetic drugs which do more harm to our bodies… here’s the experience with synthetic drugs.. u take one for a purpose.. while seemingly doing its job… another illness arises through the use of the first drug… now u need another drug together with the first to deal with the second illness… now u have a situation where, you are enslaved to medication… the bible states that ‘herbs is the healing of the nation’… but we run away from this and believe in synthetic ‘still in research phase’ drugs….

i’d like to take this opportunity to invite all to get and read this book…. African Holistic Health by Llaila O Afrika… it has many information on how to deal with common illnesses from athritis to a.i.d.s to cancer….

      @Mots

You are so right about the side effects of prescription of drugs of nowadays.

I noticed that my family doctor was very careful in prescribing drugs medicine to me–that was for the same reason you mentioned–while one drug is doing well for the certain sickness it is affecting the sickness which it was not prescribe for. Sometimes the drug is responsible for the death of a person–I have read about that before.

The tons of side effect for even one drug medicine scares me to death; sometimes I don’t even take them. For “By the stripes of Jesus Christ and through our channel of faith and trust in our God of Love, we are healed”

Sometime ago I had a sinus pain and itchy nose, so I went to the drug store, and found a medication that would work to heal both problems.

But for precaution sake I asked the pharmacist first. She asked me whether I had hypertension? When I said yes, she suggested that I used another medication–but for the itchiness of my sinuses alone. I told her that I wanted the pain relief as well, she suggested that I buy something for pain, which would cost me twice as much.

I simply ignored her and bought the one medicine and after two doses I was well again–which was exactly what I expected.

A lot of my healing and wellness comes by my faith and trust in God’s ability to heal me and to keep me alive in body and soul. Praise Him!

      Exactly so MOTS!

Meditation is for the soul, herbs are for the body. The two together help create “Mens sana in Corpore sano”. – For those who went to D.G.S. pre 1990 you know what it means. For the internet children after 1990 who care less about their health or personal edification and more about Jay-Z, Beyonce, Chris Brown, Rihanna and Facebook …its “A sound mind in a healthy body”.

Great piece Doc on God’s pharmacy and blueprint to living well. Balance is the key to a happy life experience. I agree. But moderation is so, so difficult to adhere to in a $ha-$hing society. Grasping at just one basic fact in your article, my dominician parents of the 50s, 60s…..always took issue with ice-laced drinks. There was an ice factory (Deveril’s) I can recall. Ice was used mainly to preserve. No wonder obesity was obsolete and the need for frequent, advanced medical attention was a lot less back then. And howmany could afford or find it?

Well, I forsee debates, pleasant I hope, between health practitioners as well as other individuals of the 21st Century lifestyles vs pass millenniums.: “New! Louder! Faster is better….”

I will follow this forum. Promise!

If there is anything we can take from this article by Dr. Lucia John is this: “Deep within us, we are all united in one great Divine Unity”

I have known the author for may years and can also admit of being initiated into the Transcendental Mediation program in 1988.

Congratulations to Lucia and it is good to know that she has returned to the island to share with us her wealth of knowledge on things spiritual, divine and holistic.

Now more than ever, Dominica needs to be guided by insightful men and women that can Marshall the goodness of the earth and disseminate good vibrations to society.

Transcendental meditation is built on the acknowledging of the natural law that pervades everything in creation. It is this link that is missing in our youth in particular. For some reason, they fail to see that they are tomorrow’s future and that “what they sow is what they shall reap”

I’m looking forward to subsequent articles on this topic.

  13. July 15, 2012

I cannot help but notice the theme of peace, a state that cannot be without a “mind”, a mind which is trained and disciplined.

That is the reason I understand that we can deal with whatever the circumstances of our day–for as human beings we will have many different circumstances–but as long we have a mind that is strong in Love; and Love is of God, who is of Life and Perfection.

Yeah! God Almighty, Eternal Spirit, who is Life Himself, created us, human beings, giving us His Image in the physical, and His Likeness in the Spiritual. God’s Likeness is the Stature of Love; the Light to men from Jesus Christ, who is God’s Person of Love.

God’s intention was that man would live a perfect Life–without the sorrows of the mind and the afflictions–which are the pain, suffering, hunger, and all of these omen that finally take away the existence of our physical self, because we are weak in the body.

Our strength comes from the mind; the mind must be fed with the Laws of the Spirit–the traits of Love, from conscience; conscience is the home of Holy Spirit–our God of Love, Truth, and Holiness having been connected to us by the spiritual channel, when we have it. This channel is faith, for without faith we cannot please God.

Without faith we have no connection to the God of Life and Perfection; hence we are simply existing with a physically in control by a mind which can only process the seeds of the human senses and in most cases those seeds produce futility.

The futile production happens because the mind is not able to respond to the laws of the Spirit–God Almighty–this mind being too busy processing the seeds and producing the fruits of natural laws; but those laws are the laws of physical “death”.

The person who suffers physical death, with a mind that did not respond to the Laws of the Spirit, has also gone to their grave with a dead soul–that person will never be found in the Life of Spirit and Truth forevermore.

And so, first and foremost, man must be born again of the Life of Love. Having encountered that Life, development and growth go into process through a mind in its renewing process.

The further this mind goes into it renewing process the more it begins to respond to the laws of the Spirit, which are the traits of Love, and Love is of God, who give us Life in the Spirit–the Life that continues in Eternity, in the present of God Almighty through Jedus Christ.

When God said to us: “Be still and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the heathen; I will be exalted in the earth” He is telling us, mankind, that we have no strength of our own, without Him bestowing that strength to us–but the glory of our work, through that strength His gives to us, belong to Him alone.

Finally: Go placidly amidst the noise and the haste, and remember what peace their may be in silence. As far as possible, without surrender, be on good terms with all persons.

Peace of mind is the healthiest state a human being will ever exist with.

You can place a man/woman in a perfect environment, where the temperature is just right.Don’t talk about his menu, well balanced. He also gets his 10 hours sleep.
His gymnasium is well equipped.Smokes no cigarette, consumes no alcohol. And to be on the safe side, can even have at least 10 doctors each one is specialized in his or her own field. This person can even chant every magic word in the T.M. technique or coil like a snake in yoga practice.
Yet I can guarantee Dr.Lucia John, this same person who has everything going his or her way some day may need a pair of reading glasses; or a cane to walk or sitting on a chair and need a helping hand to stand;May have kidney failure, memory loss, colon cancer.I can add more to this list and finally this person will die.
Dr.John, when man disobeyed the ALL WISE CREATOR.He brought upon himself sickness, and finally death.
Now here is the good news.Because of Christ death for us, We can have a new body after death. But we must trust the Saviour (Christ) for forgiveness of our sins before we die.
In the new heaven God will wipe away every tear from our eyes.No more death, no more sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away..Revelation 21:4.

    Amen and amen

so are u suggesting… since death is inevitable that man should simply live his life with no care??? we all know all will die… but if we take better care of ourselves then we can live more fruitfully…

      • July 15, 2012

        Mots

I don’t see that J.J. John Charles is saying that because death is inevitable, we should not take care of our bodies. But I hear him saying that regardless of how extremely, we take care of our physical bodies–there are many times we will still suffer from a physical affliction, even unto death, because as human beings we have a physical body that is susceptible to pain suffering and death.

This means that without the essence, Love, the perfect anointing, for both the spiritual and the physical, which is from God Almighty, Himself, we continue in a state of perish–because the physical body is mortal–not immortal.

That is why I understand that our mind is the main control of who we are, what we will suffer in Life, and most of all who we will be in the future. I wish that all my people would want to be reconciled to God through complete transformation–by the control of a renewed mind.

Jesus had a perfect body, meaning that His body could not contact sickness and disease–He was not worried about touching the people of His days, who were plagued with leprosy, to give them healing; He could not contract the disease from them.

Jesus could defy hunger in Him, in that He fasted for 40 days and nights and He once told His disciples: My food is to do the work of the Father who sent Me and to finish His work.

Jesus suffered the pain of our sins, because it was the Father’s will that He did so. Jesus died like a human being, so that prophecy would be fulfilled, God wanting us human beings to believe that in Jesus Christ, death is conquered.

That is why J.J. John Charles speaks about the “Good News” And to say it in another way: I am saying that: In Jesus Christ Life is a perfect living right through our Eternal existence in Paradise with Him; just as God Almighty is perfect, He is the Eternal Spirit of Love, and Love is Life in us by our channel of faith and through Jesus Christ–who is the Person of God Almighty, He, who is Love.

There is time coming when everything will be “made new” for the form of this world and everything in it will have passed away.

Those of who claim to believe in God, must also surrender to Life in the Spirit, for God is Spirit, not of flesh and bones. The apostle Paul tells us that flesh and blood cannot be part of the Kingdom of God.

As human beings we must become lost to the natural laws–of sickness, disease, suffering, pain, hunger, and weakness, that we might be found in the Spiritual laws of Love–and Love is perfect in all its traits. This process of become lost from the natural laws, and to be found in the spiritual laws, happens gradually but by steadfast faith and trust in God’s power and authority over us, when we are born again and have entered the process of mind renewal.

For if we pass away in the physical, and without the “new birth” and a mind that is “renewed”–to know the state of “complete transformation”, we will be raised from physical death, to continue in the state of “spiritual death” which is complete separation from God, in Eternity, and knowing the torments and tortures of our carnal mind for everlasting in the place which is known as hell.

I am sure that nobody wants that state of existence, it will be worst than today; for today, we can still call upon God and He shows mercy and compassion for whatever reason.

That reason can be because He chose to save a person or people, because of another person or people of His own. In Eternity, and in the torments and tortures of Hell, God will not know us, because we did not chose Him, while we had the privilege to do so. Therefore, choose Life today, that you will know the bliss of Life, even before you leave this world, if that is your destiny.

@bethelinaforJesus… i understand what u are saying… and totally agree with u… but mr or mrs charles didn’t elaborate in such a way… instead he/she came off, as trying to make people think that… all efforts towards holistic living is a futile exercise… since we will all die… look at it this way… it is better to live holistically and grow in faith and believe in Jesus Christ… than living life ‘with no care’.. yet believing in Jesus Christ… remember we were told that the body is the temple of God… so it is obvious that there is great need to take care of the physical and spiritual body…

      • July 16, 2012

        Yes Mots, you are right!

Taking care of our physical self is just as important as taking care of our Spiritual self. One involves the physcical works and they other involves the spiritual work. Either way we dead, if we do not want to apply sincere care,

this is priceless information. Dominica should take advantage of this. The facts are there and more advanced countries are taking full advantage of transcendental meditation and are reaping the benefits.

You are right. Columbia and Brazil are getting rid of their big problem of “Street children with the Transcendental Meditation Program” You will find the research at: http://www.davidlynchfoundation.org

Many other countries including the USA are turning crime-infested schools equipped with metal detectors and police presence on the schools grounds into learning facilities, simply by teaching children to experience the inner peace that we all know we have within us. They quickly become able to focus again and start getting ‘A’s because of the fact that they increase their learning ability, memory develop their mental potential, and increase their conscious thinking ability.

“The entire universe functions according to laws set in motion by the Creator, for the smooth functioning of every Kingdom of the earth and every strata of every kingdom; the violation of these laws knowingly or unknowingly results in stress, premature aging, illness and death.”

Can you prove that? Can you prove your third paragraph or fifth? Where is the justification for these assertions? A PhD such as yourself should be well-equipped to explain yourself in more detail and provide scholarly sources to back up your claims. “Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence,” as Carl Sagan always said.

      @Freethinker

Why do you call yourself by the name above, if you need outside proofs to accept certain concepts or expressions of the truth.

As far as I understand it, a person is able to think freely, is one who has the “Truth” For the Jesus has said: “the truth makes us free!”

I know by personal experience that the passage you quoted above, and asking for proof, is the “truth”, and so I do not need proofs.

The is because I now have a mind which can discern, and to understand the difference between the laws of the Spirit and the natural laws of this world.

Yes, if we “violate” the laws of the Spirit we then surrender to the natural laws; henceforth, the mind processes the things of death, in us, not the things of Life–so we succumb to death, both Spiritually and physically.

That “truth” is the reason the apostle Paul teaches the concept of “spiritual warfare”–this war is taking place in the “mind” because the Mind is the battle ground of the fight between natural laws, which wants that mind for process and production there, so does the Spiritual Laws.

It will depend on the choice you make, for from our God of Life, you are given “free will”

Dr. John could give you a million examples, if your mind is not in shape–and not able to fight against the “violation” of Spiritual Laws for Life in you, you will continue in your death condition, surrendering to the natural laws, until your days in this world come to an end.

Why am I negative? I’m not negative; I’m skeptical. Skepticism is healthy and human. Being gullible and believing whatever you hear is stupid and childish, and if that’s what you want to be, go right ahead. Just don’t expect me or any other educated individual to follow you.

@freethinker, there is a difference between not being gullible and arguing for the sake of argument, just saying. 8)
