OECS Health Ministers will meet in St.Vincent and the Grenadines on 15 October 2014 to develop a comprehensive strategy to help mitigate emerging viral diseases, particularly, chickungunya and Ebola.

The meeting, which will be addressed by the DirectorGeneral of the OECS Commission, will engage various regional and international agencies to develop urgent andinnovative strategies to combat these debilitating diseases.

Another important item on the ministers’ agenda is the World Paediatric Project, which operates in St. Vincent andthe Grenadines, providing medical assistance in-country and in the USA. The meeting will explore mechanisms toexpand the project to serve the children of the OECS.

Ministers and technical personnel will also discuss the annual Work Program of the OECS Pharmaceutical Procurement Service, which is responsible for the procurement and management of medical products for the OECS public health sector.

For the past year, the OECS Pharmaceutical Procurement Service (OECS/PPS) purchased approximately $22 million worth of medical products, which resulted in aggregate cost savings of $4.35 million.

The OECS/PPS Annual Report reveals that the availability of medicines in the OECS Member States wassatisfactory, and citizens had access to essential medicines to sustain their health care.

I wonder how people in da could be so daft that the only use there iPad and smartphones for whatsapp and Facebook and can’t read about the truth on Ebola..NIGERIA HAS BEEN DECLARED EBOLA FREE AND EVEN THE USA IS TRYING TO SEND PEOPLE TO NIGERIA TO COME AND LEARN ON HOW THEY DID THIS. Instead of you all to be proud of this achievement from for y’all own black brothers you all are there talking about something irrelevant. Thats why the white people seem to conquer us, because we black people don’t love to see our fellow black man progress. Hugh Ebola! Flavour was cancelled to come to Dominica because of political reasons..Since all Dominicans are panicking and Lenox went on the radio to talk, so if Skerrit don’t take action then he might lose his vote count..So in other to make the people happy and turn their heart back to him he said no more flavor, and stupid Dominicans are rejoicing..Ebola is in Texas and Europe getting to Canada, are people not coming to WCMF from this areas???

Dominica will take centre spot to elaborate to the meeting as to how they went about controlling the sread of chickungunya!!! According to the Hon Minister of Health … even Jca requesting assistance from DA to deal with it… so we conclude that DA health plan tight and fully up to date even to deal with Ebola!!!

Two people in Ontario, one in Belleville and one in Oshawa are in isolation and are being tested for Ebola.
Belleville is close to Montreal, Quebec.
Oshawa is far away from Toronto.
They are not certain that at least one of them will be positive. After the tests, we will know.
Canada is tightening its airport screening measures and sending an experimental Canadian Ebola vaccine to the U.S. for human trials.
God help us and protect us from this illness.
Pray that this never arrives in D/ca be it someone who may have the symptoms yet may test negative. It takes one to enter a country. Who knows?

I would think that a Min. of Health should be a medical personnel . Now what contribution could our minister of health offer to the team?

DNO: Your topic is bold but your article speaks of a meeting to deal with general health issues and NOT a meeting especially on the Ebola crisis. :-|

DNO can you please contact our own Minister of Health, Hon. Julius Timothy to get the following questions answered:
    1. Will the Hon. Minister will be attending the meeting?
    2. If not, why?

Must we take it from this press release that mr. Timothy will represent Dominica at this meeting? After all he is still our Minister of health. After the ebola debacle of last week can Govt. confirm that please. Thank you.
